    “I’m just saying,” Satoru says, like what he’s just said didn’t completely open Suguru’s skull and smash his brain like berries, “now please, sir, might I smoke some of your marijuana.”

    “No.” Suguru says automatically, moving his vape away from Satoru’s searching hands. “Also stop fucking talking like that.”

    “My man, let me hit that.” Satoru tries, reaching for the pen and tumbling forward. He’s off balance because he’s been drinking– barely but still– which is why he’s not allowed to hit Suguru’s vape. He lands solidly on Suguru’s chest, laughs, and then tilts his face up toward Suguru with a pout. “Suguru,” he whines.

    “You’re a menace.” Suguru tells Satoru, pinching his cheek. “Especially when your dumbass is cross faded. Last time you spent three hours crying on my bed because you thought the world was spinning wrong and you were worried about marine life and coastal ecological impacts via the Coriolis effect.”

    “Whale fall.” Satoru says suddenly, sounding mournful, and then he puts his head back on Suguru’s chest and bursts into tears.

    Suguru pats Satoru’s head soothingly. He does feel vaguely frantic that Satoru is crying, but–

    “You would subscribe to my OnlyFans?” He asks.

    “We have a problem.” Satoru announces, slamming into Suguru’s studio two days later. He feels guilty. Like so so guilty.

    “That so?” Suguru asks from his bed, lounging in a pair of sweats, his shirt hiked up. He scratches at his happy trail and glances over at Satoru. His demeanor changes instantly at whatever he sees on Satoru’s face. He swings his feet off his low bed, sitting up and leaning forward. “Satoru, what’s wrong?”

    Satoru situates himself on the bed next to Suguru, crossing his legs and sitting so they’re facing each other. He meets Suguru’s eyes and cannot speak. Totally blank brain. Suguru touches his knee gently, probably about to say something helpful and kind like take your time or whatever you need.

    For some reason, Satoru panics.

    “I can’t come.” He announces, much louder than he needs to. “Unless I’m thinking about you.”

    “Stop tiptoeing around me.” Satoru’s voice was more of a plea than an order.

    Suguru still tensed up at the words. “Well now you’re the one not making that easy.” He mumbled under his breath, making a visible effort to keep his eyes glued to Satoru’s face, trying to prove a point.

    “Why?” Satoru asked forcefully. “Why is it not easy?”

    Suguru searched Satoru’s face with that contained distress that was oh so him. “Because you’re just- ” He blurted out before catching himself. “You’re just not easy.”

     

    or Satoru knows nothing of kindness, but Suguru knows everything about it. Through punches and kicks, they learn to love each other.

    Now that he's looking for it, Yuuji can feel it: the words are etched into him, woven into his muscles and carved into his bones. Start by saving me, Itadori. Yuuji promised he would, so now he must.

    The burning pain is starting to come back again. It begins in his chest this time, slightly to the right. Yuuji swallows, reaching up to press his hand against it.

    So, he thinks dazedly, as the universe begins to take him apart. This is what happens when you break a Binding Vow.

    Megumi dies in Shinjuku. Yuuji is thrown back in time to save him. Again, and again, and again.

    (Or: Yuuji says “I’ll save you, Fushiguro” and the universe says “bet.”)
