“Hey,” Killjoy said in a low voice. Something warm was pressed into her hands— her coffee. “Are you okay?”
“I think so,” Neon said. Lying. “Just, uh, off balance, I guess.” She swallowed hard. “You guys are all really close, huh?”
Killjoy smiled. Knowing, even still. There was nowhere to hide from these people.
“You get used to it,” she echoed. “It’s a weird little family here, but it’s ours.” She adjusted her glasses, gaze slanting back to Jett and Phoenix, who were still arguing. “It could be yours, too.”

Summary
Sabine finds herself ambushed by someone who clearly intends to end her life. In a panic, she manages to trap them and- oh, she can't even look at what's she's done. Whatever it is, Liam doesn't want to leave it to die.
And so, the mistake of it's survival haunts her through the formation of the "VALORANT protocol" as more and more people discover the fact the creature- Omen- exists.She slowly comes to terms with it's existence. The fact it's alive. The fact- that despite everything- it trusts her.
That with it's failing body, it chooses to stay near her.And that she will have to push it away from her because she's afraid, and she doubts she can simply change that about herself, no matter how terrible she may feel about what she's done, and how much she wishes she could undo it, wishes that Omen never found her and that Omen got to live the life he had before she did this to him.
(TLDR: The story from Viper's POV of the after of Omen's failed assassination attempt + the formation of the protocol. probably with inaccuracies, inevitably, because im shitty at lore. but generally follows Viper and Omen)
