They stood in front of a portrait of a man with tan-brown skin, a wide smile, and dark, curly hair that was like Daniel’s. So much of his visage was like Daniel’s. The chin. The brown eyes.
“Who…” Daniel started.
Lyta cleared her throat. Her smile had dimmed. “Hector, my husband,” she explained. “Your… father.”
Daniel blinked. In Morpheus’ memories, there was a father. Time, he was called. He was cruel, and cold, and very, very distant–in many ways, he was like Morpheus. In Daniel Hall’s memories, no matter how far he searched, there was no one he called father. He had Mama and he had Auntie with dark skin and colorful hair and a nice smile, but there was no father.
“I’m sorry,” he said, eventually. “I don’t… remember.”
