Summary
Natalie Scatorccio measured her whole life in Wildflowers.
She plucked daisies and poppies and violets from meadows and twirled them between finger and thumb. To carry home, pressed between old pages, a habit developed to stay sane more than anything else. To force herself to remember moments she buried too deeply to be seen. A measure of all the times love had made her suffer.
Love would never be kind to Natalie.
Or

On July 1st, 1995, she broke her promise.

Summary
“I’m sorry to wake you.” I start, I hear her sigh and I can almost see her shake her head.
“No, no you didn’t.” She’s lying, of course.
“I did. If I'm being honest, I didn't think you were going to answer. I thought I was gonna catch your voicemail.” She laughs, and my heart does this weird thing, it feels all too familiar and I find myself grinning into the phone booth.
“I don’t know, I just did. I didn’t know it would be you.” She hums, trying to keep my delusions at bay. It doesn’t work.
“Something in your gut told you to answer though. You knew it was me, didn’t you?” It’s then that I remember I'm not fully sober. The alcohol in my system gives me a boost of confidence. I can almost see her roll her eyes.
“You’re insufferable. I just picked up because I wanted to.”
“Thank you.” I can’t help myself. I can’t help but crumble before her. I hear more shuffling on her end.
“For what?”
“Answering the phone.” I croak, feeling my throat grow tight. As cars zoom and zip by, waves of emotions cascade and crash into me. Under the street lamps glow, the fading music from the bar, hearing Lottie breathe across the phone; everything about this moment feels miraculous.
