Summary
Noah, after his parent’s death at age 6, is taken in by the town’s priest, Father Daniel. Despite being traumatized by seeing his dead parents, Noah warms up to the priest.
Despite being a troubled child at school, Noah and Father Daniel live a peaceful life together for the first two years.
While Noah doesn’t comprehend the wrongness of the touches and kisses that start at age 8 and doesn’t understand why Father Daniel seems so upset about them, he realizes the severity of their relationship when the advances go further at 12.
Noah struggles to live with the two images he has of his adoptive father: the nurturing side that makes him half-burnt animal-shaped pancakes, tells stupid jokes and holds him when he cries, and the monster that causes him so much pain when slipping into his bed at night.
