His apartment was forty-six stories up, a penthouse, and he could see practically everything from here. The capital, the business sector, the trains that ran six thousand feet in the air with no tracks to hold them up, carrying ant-sized people that rushed about this way and that. And everything, everything made of sleek steel and chrome and fluorescent lighting. When the sun reached its highest peak, ultraviolet reflecting off metal made the city glow like a hot plate.
Out of nowhere, his top lip began to sting like someone had cut their knuckles against it. When he reached a hand up to touch it, he could feel the parted skin, but his fingers came away free of blood.
More and more lately, it felt like he was living in a body that wasn’t his.
I am at once fixing everything I don't like about canon and making everything worse. Also, flying bikes and laser guns.

She cleans the dried blood off herself in the bathroom behind a gas station. The paper towels are rough against her skin, the soap dispensers are all empty or broken (or both), and the water from the sink is so murky that she's probably ending up with more dirt on her than when she started. But when Jess accidentally catches sight of her own face in the mirror, she has to admit that she at least looks less like a Final Girl. (Not that she meets the requirements for being one in the first place. She died first, after all. Take that, God!) (Or whoever might be listening in on her thoughts right about now.)
Now, she muses, poking at a dark bruise blooming underneath her eye, she just looks like she’s crawled out of a ditch on the side of the road.

Wei Ying stuffs three Takis into his mouth at once and mulls aloud, “You totally wouldn’t let me eat in your car if I wasn’t getting an abortion.”
“Mn,” Lan Zhan agrees.
Wei Ying crunches happily. “I should probably insist on being treated normally,” he says, mouth half-full, “but fuck it. Normally you’re mean to me.”
