“So, forgive me if this is too forward,” he starts, fixing Jon with his winningest smile, “but you’re really pretty, I’m a bit drunk, and my flat is a five minute walk from here. Wanna get out of here and let me take your mind off that ex for a few hours?”

It's only when the children finally break through the dense crowd that Silver realises three things in rapid succession; they are all girls, none of them are older than ten, and all of them—all of them, including the tiny one trailing in the back with a thumb in her mouth and a one-eyed doll in her hand—are looking straight at Flint.
"What the—" Silver starts, slanting Flint an incredulous look, "Are they talking to you?"
“No.”
There's something about the cadence of his voice that makes Silver laugh, once. Then Flint glances at him out of the corner of his eye.
“Hang on,” Silver says, drawing close, “Do you know them?"

Jon blinks, and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is, “I’m bi as well, if we’re talking, ah, labels.”
He can feel Tim still beside him, freezing up in surprise.
”And asexual, this isn’t a, a come-on or anything, I’m very much not interested,” he adds hastily. It really wouldn’t do to be misinterpreted right now. “I only wanted to say that, well, I see you. For more than that. Because I’m your friend, and because, well, yes.”

Summary
Jon did not have extensive experience when it came to dating, a fact he was sure would surprise absolutely no one. In general, he’d found them to be tedious, awkward, and nerve-wracking affairs. Most had gone terribly, and even the couple that had gone passingly well had left him exhausted from the pressure of measuring every sentence and action for social acceptability (and still missing the mark more often than not).
He’d certainly never had one go like this.
