Summary
The balcony is dark. Moonlight streaks the bloodstained carpet underneath his feet. Someone is sniffling downstairs, and it echoes through the hostel. Along with shuffling, heavy breathing, and quiet murmurs. The door behind him doesn’t do much to muffle the cop’s strangled noises of pain. Wind whistles through the broken window.
All these little sounds, and it still feels too quiet.
Titus takes a deep breath. He reaches up, pulls off his hat, and runs his hand through his close-cropped hair. His lips are pressed thin, his jaw lined tightly. He holds the hat in front of his chest, his calloused fingers pressing tightly into the fabric.
“What the fuck,” he whispers, glancing around before looking back at Garte, “were you thinking?”

Summary
As she gets closer to the window, she recognizes the sound of screaming. Pained, desperate screaming. The kind that rips your throat apart. The light that pours through the gaps in the curtains is blinding, but Jay feels her hand reaching for the edge of the curtain to pull it back anyway.
“The sun,” Ven breathes from behind her. Any pretense of cool, calm, or collected that she previously had has left her voice. “Jay, look at the sun.”

Summary
Haymitch Abernathy is many things. A drunk. An actor. A scandal. A particularly juicy sob story for the press, the cautionary tale of a child actor ruined by vices and irresponsible adults.
A father, he is not.
So, staring at the two children that his late best friend has left in his care—he’s not entirely sure what to do.
—
Or, Burdock Everdeen is dead. Asterid March is devastated. Katniss is determined to make a home fit for her and her little sister. Prim just wants everyone to be happy again. Haymitch doesn’t know what he wants, but it’s not this.
But maybe they can find some way to grieve together.
