Furina slaps the poster onto Neuvillette’s desk with a flourish. He stares at it as if it had committed a crime.
“A play in which yours truly is the lead actress, yes.”
To the people of Fontaine, theatre and water are alike in that both are ever-present, indispensable parts of their lives. Naturally, the co-rulers of the nation know this better than anyone else.

“What’s the Sage of Kshahewar doing in a place like this?” Asks a vaguely familiar voice. Then a pause, and Kaveh can just feel the judgemental eyes on the bottles on the table. “...How much have you drunk?"
Kaveh scowls. Nosy strangers. He slaps on a charming smile as he turns around. “Come on, I’m human too! What’s a little wine?” He clumsily reaches for an untouched cup of wine and offers it to the green blur of a stranger. “Wanna join me?”
On an unassuming night, Alhaitham, the ‘Light of Haravatat’, reunites with a deeply inebriated Kaveh, the Sage of Kshahewar, in Lambad’s Tavern.

Summary
Kaveh forcefully breaks eye contact with him, turning his head away, as if that would erase their shared memory, their shared promise, their shared past, their shared everything. Like it would disregard everything they did. The countless evenings spent beneath the pergola, sitting side by side. The moments of bliss where Kaveh took Alhaitham’s hands and they ran across a grassy meadow together, sounds of laughter lost in the vast field. The evenings where they resided at the House of Daena to escape the heat, speaking in hushed whispers after the librarian had to warn them of their noise.
Is that really all it took? One look away, and is all of Alhaitham out of his mind? Is that all he meant to Kaveh?
Or, Alhaitham makes a promise to Kaveh, and keeps it despite everything.

After all, in this situation, what can she say?

Summary
The invitation he sent out last was largely a matter of formality, on Neuvillette’s part. It wouldn’t be reasonable to exclude her from a gathering of close acquaintances, not when they’ve known each other for the longest time; even less so when one considers the matter of his calling, the birth of his existence’s purpose. No matter how things stand between them at present or how she would’ve felt about coming to such an intimate gathering, extending that hand was the bare minimum, a show of rightful respect.
When Furina shows up to the gathering, bottled spring water from the far north in tow, Neuvillette assumes this, too, must be a reciprocation of that respect. “Thank you for inviting me,” is the first thing she says, fashionably late to the function. Handing him her gift, Furina echoes: “A happiest birthday to you, Neuvillette.”
(They dance on the surface with formality and propriety as reasons, burying deep all that is ancient, all that is raw and ugly.)
