Summary
Most stalking (about 70-80%) occurrences are after a breakup is made. The stalker cannot accept the end of a relationship, leading to a devastating blow to their own identity, which drives them to find ways to get that person back into their life. There was never a breakup in Frank Langdon's life, but Robby throwing him out of the hospital and telling him to "Go home Frank" was just close enough to one.

"Oh, yeah, I missed you like a heart attack," Robby drawls, his smile lines crinkling.
"Mm-hmm. Something tells me you're about two seconds away from putting me on a leash."
Robby blinks. Narrows his eyes thoughtfully.
Something about it makes Langdon's heart flutter. "What?"
"You know, that's not the worst idea you've had," Robby breathes.
