Summary
"Is Will your boyfriend?" Holly asks, and Mike immediately chokes on the lettuce in his mouth.
"Wh- what?" he gasps, dropping his fork and swallowing back the salad that suddenly feels like cement in his throat. Holly's looking at him with a strange expression, like she's trying to figure something out.
"Will. Is he your boyfriend?" she repeats, even though Mike very obviously heard her, and the question doesn't feel any less shocking the second time.
"No!" He yelps. "No, why would you think that?"
Holly shrugs, taking another bite of spaghetti like this is a normal conversation and she is not slowly killing him. "Nancy calls him your little boyfriend sometimes, and Mom says he's your person, which basically means the same thing, and you live together and act like a couple and unpack groceries together, and- I don't know. Seems like it could be a thing."
holly visits college roommates mike and will, and has a few important questions for them

Summary
Spending the summer in Hawkins had been wonderful - they’d moved back in the middle of June, integrating into their new home and re-familiarizing themselves with the town. Their friends had, of course, welcomed them with open arms, and the rest of the summer had been spent like it always had - hanging out around town, taking over Steve’s pool and abusing his summer job at the video store, sleepovers in Mike’s basement and afternoons at the arcade.
It had been wonderful, yet also overwhelming.
One thing he hadn’t missed in California, was the agony of being close to Mike.
The kicker of that, of course, is that there had been the agony of being away from Mike.
Will’s conclusion is that he’s just meant to suffer.
Are they ready to be swept off their feet?

ahhhhhh this was sooooo good. was so sad to finish it. but like this story goes down exactly how I like stories to go down. yeah it was a slow burn but with enough action to keep you engaged. especially when the story fleshes out so many good dynamics. I absolutely adored Will's dynamic with El in this and really really liked his dynamic with Max as well. Lucas and Max were also really cute. yeah idk all the scenes of the group hanging out were also super super nice. all the diner scenes. the scenes of them on his roof. them in the rain. fuck, all the scenes were so good. yeah I will be coming back to this one for sure, I absolutely loved it. Mike being such a disaster was so good. him asking out Jenni so Will wouldn't go with her... hahaha.

Summary
Wherein Mike believes he’s being obvious, Will doesn’t know what he believes, and the pair of them could use a lesson or two in effective communication. Somehow all of this has both nothing and everything to do with five years' worth of school dances.

Summary
When Will needs to get his thoughts out of his head, he writes a letter he never intends to send. He addresses it to Mike, and tells him everything.
Feeling lighter than he has in weeks and buoyed by the adrenaline of writing it all out, Will acts on an impulse and ends the letter with, "If you’d be willing to give me a chance, I’d be really happy to date you. If you’re open to trying it, please meet me in Castle Byers this Saturday at 2:00pm. I’m not asking for any promises, I’m not asking for forever or anything like that; all I’m asking is that you give me a chance. Come if you want; if not, I completely understand, no hard feelings, and I’ll never, ever mention this again."
He forgets all about the letter, and the distinctive red envelope he stowed it in, until he turns around to find it missing. Now, Will has to think of some way to stop Mike from reading that letter - or should he wait at Castle Byers on Saturday at 2:00pm and pray for a miracle?

It was easy for Will Byers to fall in love with Mike Wheeler.
The trouble came when he had to pretend it wasn't real.

really slow burn but what a pay off. also the environment is so so rich. I love all the details like the playlist or them spending time in each others' rooms or going to that bar or them on the roof or them at Honey's. I really feel like I'm there. and I love love love how supportive everyone is like Jonathan and Dustin and Lucas.
