“Superior Private Usami. I do hope you’ll excuse the wait. I trust you found your way here without any trouble?”
A meaningless question, as if Usami couldn’t find the way in his sleep, which Tsurumi well knows. The words hardly matter. Just the cadence of Tsurumi’s voice, deep & cordial, is enough to warm his cheeks & quicken his breath. Usami maintains his posture, though, gathers himself before responding accordingly, “Yes, Sir.”
Tsurumi smiles, a mild, harmless thing that Usami knows means nothing at all. It’s a provocation of sorts, an indication that if anything is to go further, Usami will need to initiate. That suits him just fine.

In his final moments, Usami had given Tsurumi two tokens of valuable information, pulled from the pockets of his uniform (useful, used, to the end.) Intelligence gathered for the express purpose of helping Tsurumi come ever closer to his goals. It would be prudent to check the rest of his person for more.

Summary
No one pays much mind to the fact that the Second Lieutenant is enjoying a treat with a mere private, & Usami comes to the conclusion that they’d come further from the canteen so that no one would realize Tsurumi had gotten the confection for him. A secret, he thinks, lightheaded, pausing mid-chew to steady his heartbeat.
Tsurumi finishes his dango quickly, somehow having eaten it in the blink of an eye despite never appearing for a moment less elegant. He pockets the remaining skewer, so Usami does the same.
“Well, where shall we go next?” he asks indulgently, looking over to Usami with a peaceful smile. Usami freezes, speechless for not the first time this afternoon. A beat passes as he tries to think of an appropriate response, before Tsurumi adds, “I think a visit to the armory might be productive. I could show you the stables, too, though that should be last; we wouldn’t want to get your uniform dirty, after all.”
