Summary
The events at the Battle of Beacon have taken their toll physically and mentally on Yang and Ruby - Yang in particular struggles both with the physical scars she has taken as well as the burden unwittingly placed on her partner as a result of her rage. While awaiting news from the other half of the team, Yang and Ruby accept an invitation to return home to Patch to recover. For Yang, however, no physical injury burns as much as not knowing what became of the person she was so ready to sacrifice everything for.
An alternate take on the Volume 3 aftermath. Diverges from canon after 3x11 (as little as possible for the sake of the story). Written to cope with anxiety/stress in the wait between 3x11 and the Vol. 3 season finale of RWBY, and further developing to cope with the wait between Volume 3 and 4.

"When her eyes opened, she was greeted with golden eyes mere inches away, and she could feel Blake’s long black hair fall around her on the bed. Her mouth opened to speak, as though to try and make sense of it all, but her partner silenced her immediately with a single finger pressed to Yang’s lips."
Somewhere between formless sleep and hard reality, Yang finds a spot of hope. In time, reality echoes the dream.

"I don't date my photographers," Blake says, almost reflexively.
Yang just looks at her, searching, brows slowly drawing together with uncertainty. "Is that really all I am to you?"
No, not even a little. Whatever Yang is to her, or could be to her, Blake knows it's transcendent. And that's terrifying.
