Summary
“You don’t say please. You don’t.”
“Please,” he says again, and drags out each letter, and Henry should oblige, but his own body is pliant in Hans’s presence, like water, or clay.
Strange, flipped, subverted, this hesitation. Outside of this room, Henry has no hesitation when it comes to Hans. Out there in the world, his golden pourpoint covers the marks Henry leaves on him, hiding these blemishes against his unquestionable authority. Inside, naked, nowhere to hide. Uneasy equals. And one always trying to capitulate to the other.

Summary
“I wasn’t going to let a man die in the woods alone.”
“You should have,” Erik said.
“I should have,” Capon agreed, “but I didn’t.”
Hans Capon would never look at him with anything he wanted, anything that would soothe the aches in him, so he should be happy with what he had; he certainly didn’t deserve it. There was little Capon could request that could injure him.
After Henry's death several years after the end of KCD 2, Hans Capon takes in Erik.

Summary
Hans knows what he’s doing is wrong. Reprehensible. Sinful in a way that Hans thought even he wouldn’t—couldn’t be. Morality as dictated by God never meant much to Hans, but at this point he’s far beyond His domain.
Henry just made it so damn easy.

Summary
In the stillness after Suchdol, Henry is paralyzed by his past, a prisoner to thoughts that convince him he’ll never be more than a boy who neglects the person closest to him — the same coward who watched his village burn and his parents die and their killer apologize to him and to God.
***
Henry is plagued by nightmares, and he grapples with them while trying to figure out how to reconnect with Hans after their evening at Suchdol.
