    Sometimes I wondered if we knew each other in a past life, because that’s how it felt. If we had, how many others had I walked with her? One? A thousand? No matter the number, I had a feeling I had found her every time.

    I reeled her into me, though it was gentle, unhurried, like I was drunk on a mix of our connection and the tranquility.

    “We’ve been through some hard things.” I breathed, watching the ripples kiss her lips like I did. “But I’m glad I did them all with you.”

    Annabeth’s eyes shone with the reflection of the water and something else - something I knew was aimed at me: adoration.

    “Me too, Seaweed Brain. I couldn’t have done them without you.”
