Summary
Shane Hollander was not a boring person. He knew this at heart. He had his own private world of intricate thoughts and was a man of discipline, with a dry wit and a capacity for passion and love that had once felt bottomless. But he had never ever considered his life dull. That was until he started seeing himself through Ilya Rozanov’s eyes.
-
Or: years after him and Ilya got together, Shane starts to resent the 'boring' banter. -

Summary
It had been 185 days since he had last seen Ilya. Not that Shane was keeping count. But they were Hollander and Rozanov. They would always find their way to each other, eventually.
Between ruffled sheets and sweaty legs tangled in each other, Ilya whispered right by the Canadian’s ear. “I was thinking we should try that… What is the word?” He seemed to think. “Ah! Bondage. You know? I put something over your eyes and—”
“I know what bondage is, Rozanov,” Shane replied, his voice suddenly tight and strained. The sleepiness vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, sharp alertness. “I don’t like it. Maybe we could try something else?” Shane interrupted, his voice hitting a strange, high frequency.

Or: Ilya and Shane spend almost 6 months apart after the 'tuna melt incident'. In an attempt to spice things up when they reunite, Ilya discovers that Shane has been with other men. However, Shane's desperate attempt to move on from Ilya led him into a series of coercive encounters he has struggled to categorize as anything other than "bad sex."

Summary
Shane Hollander had just royally fucked up. He couldn't feel his feet. He couldn't feel the weight of his stick. He stood frozen while he watched Boston celebrate their win. A win that could have been easily avoided if he had not tripped on the ice during probably the most crucial moment of the third period.
-
Or: Shane has a shit game against Boston, falls into a self-destructive spiral, and cancels on Ilya, who doesn't like being bailed on. He proceeds to catch Shane in the midst of an episode.
