Summary
“Are you lonely?” Rang out a voice - bright, kaleidoscopic, bouncing light and color and warmth in a place where there’d been none. Red eyes stared from mist of black, the shape of a face barely visible behind the slithering of a thousand black snakes. A-Yuan stared back patient and expectant, curious silver eyes piercing like a sword glare and every bit as brilliant.
The monster reached out a hand cautiously, shade clinging to its skin like a mantle. Thin spindly fingers ran through the child’s matted and muddy hair with a gentleness that felt out of place so deep in this dark and unyielding cave, where not a sound or flicker of sunlight could reach.
“Are you lost?” Echoed back a voice raspy and thin like ash, with the barely-there tenderness of a firepit long gone cold.

Summary
You can feel her studying you from across the table. You lift your eyes just enough to quietly watch as her black-gloved fingers wistfully skim the thick glass rim of her whisky tumbler. Slowly, she uncrosses and re-crosses her legs; the deep slit of her charcoal skirt splits up her bare thigh like a widening eye.
