“Need I remind,” he whispers, low and deep, an edge on every word, “that you work for me?”
The nurse doesn't show a falter in her own hard-headedness. Refuses to give him satisfaction of her submission. Only stands just as strong next to him, glaring.
“At least I do my job right. You don't seem to know how to do yours without complications.”
His grip on her jaw grows tighter, causing her to wince despite her best efforts to remain invulnerable to the pain. “Don’t act up.”
The air grows thick. A tension brewing. Combined heats pulsating. Her voice drops. “If I do?”
What she receives next as his response shouldn't have been as enticing as it sounded to her.
“Then you’ll have to bear the consequences.”
The colonel's relationship with his personal nurse is simply, and most definitely, professional; though only a fool would ever believe that to be true.
