Lee never says his name when they fuck.
Gaara wonders, sometimes, if it’s Neji that Lee is thinking of when they’re locked together in the dark, if Gaara’s body here in Lee’s sheets is naught but a vessel for a ghost. He wonders who Lee thinks Gaara is thinking of—if Lee thinks that perhaps Gaara envisions Naruto above him, tracing the paths Lee has drawn under his skin.
He doesn’t. He never has. The only person he ever thinks of like this is Lee, the only person he ever wants like this is Lee.
But Lee bites off his words when he comes, and Gaara is too afraid to ask him to speak.

the thoughts in his head are so loud that he barely hears it when gaara speaks up—in the same monotonous voice as he always did, devoid of the highs and lows of feeling, of emotion, but lee sees it when something switches in gaara’s gaze—it’s quick, it’s barely there, and lee isn’t perceptive enough to know what it is, but it’s a change that has his muscles going numb and his heart stopping for a moment as he watches gaara’s lips move; forming words that lee hadn’t exactly expected.
