Kate Sharma is a transit worker in Chicago. Her family, consisting of her sister Edwina and her stepmother Mary, live in India and are unable to come to visit her until after New Years. She finds herself feeling rather lonely, her sole comfort being her crush, Benedict, who comes to the train station at exactly 8:00 every morning. When he falls on the rails after a mugging incident, Kate heroically saves him from being hit by a train. Unfortunately for her, a comment made to herself becomes public and the family of Benedict believes Kate is his fiancée. As his family begins to fall in love with her, she starts to have feelings for Benedict's older brother Anthony.
