"What?" His mouth feels dry. His hands are sweating. He can feel a flush creeping up his neck.
Jane repeats her words between cackles and wheezes, "I said... I'm so hungry... I could eat... Will Byers!"
All of the kids are laughing now, some big inside joke that Mike is the butt of. He feels sick. He feels something he can't place.

Summary
Adjusting to the presence of the soul has been hard on Kris and just for tonight, they'd like to be fully in control. What they don't anticipate though, is how long they have before things go wrong. In other words, Kris rips out their soul for the first time and shenanigans ensue and they have a chat with the soul. Takes place before the events of chapter 1.
Note: this is a rewrite of a fic I posted a while ago. More details in the post.
11/26/25 update: Made a slight change to one of the lines during Kris and the soul's conversation, and other small edits. Nothing too drastic, though.
