Summary
Elias is still stacking the papers and lining them nicely at the edges when Melanie makes her move, sliding the pocket knife from her sleeve and pointing the tooth of it to his neck. She presses it heavily against the apple of his throat, and suddenly feels dizzy as thousands of gazes pin her down. It’s a fuzzy, numbing ring in the back of her head as he heaves a breath.
“Well, that’s not very nice.”
