Magic has always existed in Fiore. Perhaps, in universes similarly created, there exists other forms of magic. Sometimes, if people or items get too close to the source, they bleed into a parallel world. The Heartfilia family has always been entrenched in magic's secrets, so it should be no surprise when they are the ones to realize the potential of parallel universes. Things just get a bit more hands-on when something - or someone - leaks from another world into their family.
