Summary
The symptoms of chronic intestinal failure: vomiting, abdominal pain, physical weakness, malnutrition. The symptoms of malnutrition: decreased muscle strength, fatigue, and appetite loss.
After three long, tedious years of being stuck in the same hospital bed, Nox decided he was done. Done with the doctors, and the needles, and the endless onslaught of hope. Done with all of it. At this point, the only thing he looked for was death.
Death, and that cute boy with the smile.

Summary
After the disaster that was the Cinderella book, Chase and Deacon want a calmer story that will give them a chance to talk with Buddy and sort out enough key-related details to avoid THAT ever happening again. Deacon leaves Chase a stack of books with mundane plots to choose from.
Chase chooses the wrong book.

Summary
Chase is going to college! ...A year later than planned, but going nonetheless!
With a regrettable choice for an elective credit, the obligatory Discussion Post assignments it comes with it, and some unknown classmate on those Discussion Posts who seems to disagree with EVERY SINGLE post Chase makes in the MOST condescending way possible and it's ALREADY driving him UP THE WALL—
...You, uh, might say his university experience is off to an...interesting start!
——————"Well, they can't be replying only to you or they'd fail the discussion post requirements," Deacon clarified. "Actually, if it's all anonymous how are you even sure it's the same person?"
"I can just tell, Deacon. No one else in this class is going to be using words like 'insufferable,' 'colloquialism,' and 'alas' in discussions that are only worth a whopping 10% total of our final grade."
"Fair enough," Deacon shrugged.

Summary
If anyone were to turn the small town of Sugar Springs into the center of a media spectacle, it makes sense for that person to be Chase Hollow.
Everyone should be thanking him, really, for giving them all something new to talk about. Nothing interesting has happened in Sugar Springs in a while—not since the incident at the PTA bake sale a few months ago in which Diane Forenski not-so-subtly pushed Patricia Henderson’s carrot cake off her table before pretending to faint.
But even Chase has to admit: this is all a bit much—a huge step up from petty drama between feuding elders.
Everything unravelled when Chase made that fateful wish.

Summary
Bronze narrows his eyes.
No one is supposed to be in the kitchen right now. He knows that with absolute certainty. Which means, if Chase’s ramblings about a particular villainess and his chocolate obsession are to be believed…
This must be Buddy.
Bronze clears his throat as he ventures forth into the room.
The reaction is immediate. The figure spins around like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar before dinner—eyes wide, fork frozen mid-air.
Bronze feels his face drop. It’s strange feeling skin and muscles contort instead of the usual stillness of metal—but the sensation barely registers. There’s something else, something far heavier beneath his bones, dragging through his chest like a boulder sinking in water.
He knows that face.
And he watches in slow motion as “Buddy” appears to be experiencing a similar emotion.
