She looks so comfortable moving around Misty’s home that Misty can almost imagine she has always been there. Just as much a fixture of the house as the leaky bathroom faucet or the wainscoting in the dining room.

They were so close in each others’ space that all Misty could see was Natalie, and she was sure all Natalie could see was her, and her glasses, and her hair that, no matter how short she cut it, always seemed a little too bushy, a little too big for her head.
Natalie broke their intense eye contact to glance up at their old friends, scattered as they were. Misty’s hand moved compulsively to readjust her glasses on her face. She felt so stupid for feeling like they were, what, having a moment? She was so desperate all the time. She was so busy spiraling internally about her own pathetic nature that she almost missed Nat looking back at her. She almost missed the way Nat’s lips curled around something coy, unabashed, sacrosanct.
“Aren’t you staying in this hotel?”
“Yeah,” Misty said, then added, stupidly, “I used some of the settlement money.”
Rather than recoil in second hand embarrassment, Nat just smirked harder, deeper.
“Do you wanna take me back to your room?”
