Summary
Taako didn't expend much thought for the Umbrastaff at first. The extent had essentially been 'Sick, new weapon. ' and then he had promptly moved on to kick some ass. Then they were hired to work on the moon and the day had continued without any more time to mull over the risk of stealing from dead people.
There might be more baggage attached to the Umbrastaff than he had realized.

Summary
When Lup was younger, much, much younger, she watched a pair of boys run up from behind Taako and push him into the dirt. And they laughed like it was the funniest thing they’d ever seen, and Taako bit down hard on his lip because he hadn’t cried since their last uncle shooed them out of the house for good seven months ago and he wasn’t about to start now, and Lup saw red. Lup, young and scrawny and furious, had held out a hand to help her brother off the ground and then clenched that same hand into a fist and chased those boys half a mile down the dirt path with Taako on her heels until she’d cornered them.
“It’s not worth it,” Taako had insisted, grabbing her hand and trying to pull her in the other direction, but there was a scrape on his knee and she had already made up her mind.
Now, she looks at Sazed gritting his teeth against the wall where she has him held, trying his best to look unafraid, and she tightens her hand into a fist.

Summary
Taako and Lup’s career as traveling cooks comes to a screeching halt when they get trapped in the shittiest hellhole on their route. Some demon overlord type is picking a fight with the Raven Queen, and the opening salvo features a zombie army and an impenetrable dome of black fog.
Obviously, the twins aren’t gonna fuck with this. But their escape attempt does not work out.
Meanwhile, Istus intervenes to save Lucretia’s life, leaving her the sole official left to organize a resistance-- With the warning that she’s going to screw up. And how could she not? What’s she supposed to do, ask Barry J. Bluejeans, the necromancer employed by the bad guys, for zombie-killing advice?
At least she has Magnus and Merle to rely on when things continue breaking bad. Her bureau’s been infiltrated by the demon’s minions and it’s difficult to tell friend from foe. Angus McDonald is on the case, but he doesn’t know who to approach-- Not many people take kids seriously.
And at the core of this whole mess is the Raven Queen, who’s enduring a loss she can’t afford.

Summary
Five times Taako manages to get a hug from one of his friends without having to actually admit that he wants a hug, and one time he flat out cops to it.
1. Taako hates being cold and wet. He's both, thanks to an inconvenient river. Magnus is a human furnace, and thus it begins.
2. Waking up feeling inexplicably lonely, Taako tries to goad Magnus into bickering with him in a bid for some company. He gets the company, at least.
3. Angus is almost hit by a rogue cart, Taako deals with being idolized and trusted by a kid he doesn't think he deserves the faith of.
4. During a fight, Taako almost dies, and Merle gets to practice his healing skills.
5. Magnus has a nightmare, Merle nearly loses Magnus after a fight, and Taako finds himself on the other side of things.
