Summary
Their friendship is never the same again after The Prank. Remus forgives him eventually, of course, but the wall never fully comes down. Sirius is held at arms length for the remainder of their two years at Hogwarts, and then they quietly graduate and join the Order. They run across each other occasionally now and again. It’s always polite, but they never broach the distance.
Then Sirius is injured on a mission and the whole world splits apart.

Lily loves Sirius the most of their friends. This is a well kept secret, any of their friends would have said her favourite of them all was Remus, or Marlene, or Mary. They have the most in common, she spends the most time with them, they are her first confidants about the worries that keep her up in the night. She loves them all, of course. But she loves Sirius in the way that only two people who recognise each other’s rawest parts can love each other.

Summary
Remus presses their lips together, almost with desperation. For a second, it feels like blasphemy. And then he melts into it, pressing his hand into Remus’ lower back, grounding himself. This is the life he had wanted. To bring Remus home to his parents’ house, for them to greet them as equals, to steal kisses in their back garden and have his mother tease them about it over dinner. That was the life he had deserved. He can’t forgive her that he never got that.
