Summary
Without another word, Mydei turns toward the hallway and heads for the bedroom. He can hear Phainon's footsteps trailing behind him.
At the bedroom door, Mydei hesitates, blinking through the haze at the dim shape of his bed. "I…only have one bed."
"Oh no," Phainon says dryly. "The horror."
OR, after one unforgettable night in the temple, Mydei realizes he's picked up a supernatural stray who happily settled in, has no understanding of boundaries, and acts like he belongs wherever Mydei is.

Summary
Phainon panicked— at least a little. At the bare minimum, he felt blindsided— Mydei was purposefully being combative despite Phainon having been nothing but amicable, and now he was making it sound like Phainon was the one in the wrong.
So he did the most logical thing he could think of in response, of course— acting before really thinking about it— and demonstrated his willingness to participate in what he'd personally perceived as a provocation from the Crown Prince—
He undid the knot holding the tiny modesty towel in place, the pristine white fabric falling, and with it, so did Mydeimos's gaze.
“Oh,” Mydei answered eloquently, an odd expression crossing his face as he stared, unabashedly while Phainon, much more abashedly, allowed him to.
Be it through ignorance or wishful thinking, Phainon interprets Mydei's shamelessness as a direct provocation to settle the score between them, following the event of their ten-day, ten-night battle resulting in a draw.

Summary
At 44, Phainon was used to people thinking it was strange that he was single. He'd done his time as a warrior and returned home to Aedes Elysiae without anything more than some scars and the occasional nightmare, made a name for himself in Okhema and Castrum Kremnos, graduated only two years late after many debates in the Grove of Epiphany, and won the friendship of many a mighty Chrysos Heir. In each of his adventures though, he'd continued to find himself painfully single and eventually, accepted his slow life in retirement as a farmer. His discovery of romance novels through his sister Cyrene and his friend Castorice left him with more of a sense of longing as he wished that he himself would one day find a love like those he read about between pages.
Its only when a warrior is sent as a messenger to bring him more books that he starts to think that wish isn't so unrealistic after all.
