Summary
He knows that Kaveh would be unlikely to put much effort into protesting if Alhaitham simply asked to hear it again.
He knows that Kaveh rarely turns down doing anything that is asked of him, and that he'll bend over backwards to give and give and give.
He knows he can get what he wants without ever finding out whether it aligns with what Kaveh wants as well.
Asking Kaveh explicitly is, thus, off the table.
What is not addressed by that statement is Alhaitham's newfound tendency to look for openings; situations that could, one way or another, with a string of decisions that are on par with cheap Inazuman light novels with their lack of common sense, end up with him feeling Kaveh's pulse.
Or,
Alhaitham is just a little obsessed with Kaveh's heartbeat. So much so that he hears it ghosting over his ears whenever he doesn't have his headphones on. Shenanigans ensue when said headphones get broken.
