“Why’d you volunteer, Tim?” Lucy asks quietly.
It’s the question that’s been plaguing her for the past two days, ever since she saw his name on the list. There’s a lot of things that Tim hates, but she’s pretty sure undercover work might be at the forefront. Yet, he had volunteered to do a long-term op, posing as her husband. She knows he’s trying to pay everything back to her—small doses, he had said. But... This is a lot.
This isn’t just some small dose. This is just about as big as a dose that anything could be.
“Because,” Tim starts heavily, “I’ll always have your back. As long as you’ll let me.”

“So… if last time was just Valentine’s Day ex sex, then this is… what?”
Tim clears his throat from his side of the bed, tugging the blanket a little further up his chest as he runs his hand through his messy hair.
(He tries desperately not to think about how it got this messy).
“Uh…”
Lucy chuckles awkwardly from where she’s staring at the ceiling, ignoring how her knee is pressing into Tim’s naked thigh. Ignoring how the whole room smells of sex. Ignoring how her heart is still racing and her whole body still covered in a thin sheen of sweat.
“It was… a bad decision?” Tim offers.

Not sure where I'm headed with this - if it's going to be a series of one-shots or an actual story.---
Tim reads Angela’s text for the fifth time. Or maybe the sixth. Then he reads it again.
Hey, Lucy had a bit of a moment earlier. Just thought you should know.
He texts back asking for details, but Lopez assures him that Lucy will be okay. Tossing the phone on the passenger’s seat, Tim leans back. He’s been feeling restless all day, unsettled.
He knows Harper is right – intellectually, he can understand what Lucy is going through, but emotionally it’s a different matter. It’s not a fear he will ever have to face.
But it doesn’t sit right with him that he can’t be the one to help her through this.
He was the one who found her. He was the one who pulled her out of the ground. He was the one who literally breathed life back into her. He’s the one who sat with her all night until she finally woke up.
I’m responsible for her, he tells himself. That’s the reason he doesn’t trust Lopez and Harper. That’s all this is.
