“Of course you were,” he says, in that same tone Asamushi-san uses when he’s explaining a specific rule or play to Yuudai: patient, but with a thread of unshakeable certainty to it, like he has no doubt that Yuudai will be able to do it. A hint of incredulity that there’s any doubt. “Bet Washijou’s got some big ideas for what to show you – Anabara too, he’s always been creative, and how’d he resist? I mean, who’s got more raw power in the prefecture than you?”
A blur of orange flashes through Yuudai’s mind then, always higher than him, always above him, despite the impossibility of it.
Hinata Shouyou, he thinks but does not say.
Yuudai is not who he is today because of Hinata Shouyou, but he is all the better for having had him at his side.
