"Samaritan can see you. It's been able to for months. I do what it tells me to so you don't die, okay? I…" Shaw's hands shake and she runs them down her face, her back still turned to Root. "I've done things. Unforgiveable things."
"I don't care about that, Sameen. None of the others would either. Please, just come with—" as Root grabs her arm, Shaw whips around and aims a gun at her.
"No. I told you, Root. Stay away from me."
Root smiles, pain reflected in her eyes. "I've imagined a million reunions for us. Funny how many involved a gun."
"Yeah, well. It wouldn't be very exciting one without some threat of violence, I suppose."
Samaritan can see her friends now.
And unless Shaw does what it tells her to, kill targets and follow its every command, they will die.
She won't let that happen. She'll do anything to avoid that.
Even if it means Root will hate her for it if she ever finds out.

“The fruit is sweetest when you wait for it to ripen, do you not think?” Michaela said each word slowly, meaningfully, and Francesca felt her mind go blank.
“I — I do not know,” she managed to stutter out.
She watched as Michaela licked her bottom lip. “You don’t?” she echoed.
And then she reached up and wiped at the juice that was dribbling down Francesca’s chin with her thumb. “Well,” she started, looking down at her plum-stained thumb before placing it between her own lips. Francesca’s stomach clenched at the sight.
Michaela sucked her thumb slowly before letting it fall from her lips with a pop. She smiled knowingly up at Francesca. Francesca would not be able to take her eyes off Michaela’s lips — even if she tried.
She watched as Michaela breathed in and then parted her lips to speak. “The greatest pleasure awaits you still,” she said.

Zara looked back at her then, her eyes softening. “I suppose I don’t hear it very often. If ever,” she replied, her voice hoarse.

Michaela returns from India upon hearing rumours that Francesca is re-entering the marriage mart. Their reunion ends with Francesca being the one to run this time. Michaela chases her to Scotland.
