Summary
It was Saturday night, and Melissa had no excuses or desire. She didn’t want to go to the party and had made that clear. But Gen insisted—again. Melissa was too tired to argue, and part of her didn’t want to face the guilt trip that would follow if she stayed home. She didn’t even know whose house it was, but one thing was certain: she’d rather be doing anything else.
Once at the party, Melissa felt out of place, surrounded by noise and people she didn’t know. She wandered around until she found a quiet spot on the second floor, where she could finally breathe and smoke her blunt. Just as she began to relax, someone entered her space—Shauna Shipman. Neither of them said much at first, but the silence between them was comfortable, almost as if they were meant to meet there. Melissa, still trying to manage her nerves, handed Shauna the blunt when she asked for it. The brief moment of connection made Melissa’s heart race.
