Andy cleared her throat, her voice raspy. “Are you trying to tell me what to do, Em?”
Emily knew the right answer to that, not necessarily the truth, but what Andy wanted to hear. “Of course not, Andy. I just—I just want you so terribly.”
Okay, maybe she’d defaulted to the truth, after all. But this was Andy. She knew this already, how could she not when the truth was written all over her face. Emily liked being told what to do. She liked the solidity of knowing she was doing the right thing, only following the steadiness of Andy’s words, switching her own brain off. But more than that, right now, she wanted Andy.
