Sarah Christ has never solved a case, but there is one that's the center of her life. Her daughter doesn't believe in her anymore, neither do her colleagues, and she has even signed her divorce papers on top of the case files. She's put too much into this; it leaves only one option: she must catch the Creekside Killer.

“I used to be engaged,” Amanda starts.
“Huh.” Angela isn't all that eloquent, but she looks up at Amanda, letting her know she's listening.
“It's going to be two years since I called it off in a week.” Amanda finishes her wine, too, setting both their glasses down before she continues, “He was… honestly, he was perfect at first. I kept thinking I didn't deserve him. So loving, he worshiped the ground I walked on.”
“At first,” Angela repeats, her hand soothing where it's been resting over Amanda's back.
“They’re always charming at first.” Amanda nods, agreeing.

Amanda works through her past, Angela works through her present. It would just be a lot easier if Angela let them work together.
