Summary
Madeleine and Javert are both changed men when they meet after twenty years. On Javert’s wrists and back are scars like Madeleine’s own. Neither of them is in chains anymore - but whether either can be called free is a whole different question.
As a bitter winter grips the city, the two damaged men stumble down the paths they have set themselves, towards a confrontation that will shatter them both.
