How Helping the Soaking Wet Stranger Changed my Life

Summary:

Tanizaki life already feels like it's turning upside down with a sick manager, lazy coworkers and a ton of papers to organize and calls to answer. Then we have the guy who decided to walk in soaking wet.

Work Text:

Tanizaki as Beta and one left in the middle of society discovered there were two types of Betas in this world. The ones that would climb their way up the ladder in society through hard work and the ones who would do it through other conventional means. Well, he had just made that discovery when the head Receptionist otherwise his manager called in sick today and he was the only one really putting in any effort to try and get work done or more like try to get all of the work done. Getting a job at A&D was a dream come true, they looked great on a resume and gave exceptional pay and that was important since he was struggling to pay to support both him and his sister and pay his part-time college fees for his finance courses. He discovered that most of the other receptionist weren’t in such dire situation like him. Koyomi was a beta that had an upstanding background but just took this part-time job to find a rich husband. Hiroto was a Beta that pretty much had his future set and was just here to kill time and make some extra cash. The phone rang and Tanizaki quickly took his eyes off the stack of papers he was desperately trying to organize and looked at the phone sitting right between Koyomi and Hiroto, who were doing absolutely nothing.

“Can someone please pick that up,” Tanizaki said in exhaustion.

“Not it,” Hiroto smirked and swiveled his chair away.

“Do you not see me fixing my lipstick,” Koyomi rolled her eyes. Tanizaki groaned inwardly and dropped what he was doing to pick up the phone.

“Hello, this is A&D how may I help you?” Tanizaki listened to the person on the other line. Unlike the other two he had a lot riding on this job and he needed to make sure that he kept it even if it meant picking up the slack for the other bums he calls his co-workers. Tanizaki instructed the person well and politely ended the call before sighing and going back to organizing the papers.

“This sucks,” Hiroto sighed. “Why can’t we be on the floor with any of the Omegas?”

“I don’t need any competition,” Koyomi snarled.

“Oh yeah, Koyomi your ideal partner is an Alpha right?” Hiroto snickered. “Good luck there?” Koyomi has made it clear of her dislike for omegas since alphas had a tendency to be attracted to them than any other secondary gender, with their smells, and wonderful body frames and not to forget the heats. Even Betas couldn’t help but glance when they walked by.

“Never mind that now just do your work,” Tanizaki huffed out in frustration.

Hiroto shrugged and finally started doing something other than lazing around in his chair, now if only he could convince Koyomi to do the same. The door jingled and Tanizaki could guess who was walking through the door without even checking. Every day around 12:30, the same choppy grey haired man would walk in with a lunch to deliver but unlike every other time he was dripping wet. Tanizaki nearly dropped his papers with his mouth when he saw him. He was obviously cold and shivering when he walked up to their desk.

“Oh, my gosh are you…?” Tanizaki words were stuck in his throat when the smell hit him. He could see Hiroto and Koyomi movements stifle signifying that he wasn’t just imaging it. That sweet, intoxicating aroma no doubt the scent of an omega. A male omega! If you think Alpha’s would try to take a glance once a female omega walked by they would drop everything they're doing if they even had a hint a male omega was in the area. They were extremely rare, you were lucky if you even managed to catch a glimpse of one and know he finds out he’s been greeting one every day.

“Umm,” yellow spotted purple eyes looked around the desk for the manager he would usually greet, “where is Rin-san?”

Tanizaki snapped out, “Rin-san is currently out sick. Is there anything we can help you with ummm?”

“Atsushi, Nakajima Atsushi,” Atsushi gracefully answered.

“Atsushi-san,” Tanizaki smiled embarrassedly. He couldn’t believe that he didn’t manage to catch the name of someone he sees so often. “Do you need me to grab you a towel or blanket?”

“No, I just need to deliver this,” Atsushi gestured to the neatly wrapped lunch box in his hand.

“I’m sorry sir do you have an appointment?” Koyomi spoke up with an obviously displeased tone. “I don’t see you down in the book for any visit.” Tanizaki felt the need to scream. Their manager let Atsushi walk pass all the time he was a frequent visitor. Koyomi would have let anyone walk past without a second glance and care for that matter. It’s only because she knows he’s an omega that she finally decided to do her job.

“I’m sorry I don’t usually…”

“We aren’t allowed to send anyone up without prior knowledge of your arrival.” Tanizaki hated admitting that Koyomi was right but it was part of the rules for safety reasons.

“We can call the person for confirmation,” Tanizaki suggested.

“Oh no,” Atsushi shook his head. “He’s probably in a meetin- achoo!”

“Hiroto!” Tanizaki snapped the man out of his daze, “Can you grab a blanket out of the backroom?” Hiroto nodded and scurried away but not before taking one more glance of Atsushi. Tanizaki quickly hurried around the desk to Atsushi. “You’re cold,” Tanizaki said in worry and guided Atsushi to take a seat behind the desk.

“We really shouldn’t be…”

“Oh my…. Why don’t you just get over yourself Koyomi?” Tanizaki snapped at the girl. Atsushi mouth hung open while Hiroto nearly choked on laughter.

“I’m sorry about that,” Tanizaki took the blanket from Hiroto and wrapped it around Atsushi.

“No worries,” Atsushi shook it off. “She’s only doing her job.” Tanizaki had to wonder if all omegas were as pure and sweet as Atsushi or if it was just him. If only he knew that the bitch was just treating him like that because of his secondary gender. Atsushi sniffled again.

“Do you want any tea?” Tanizaki offered. “It’ll warm you up.”

“If it’s not too much of a bother,” Atsushi smiled shyly. Tanizaki felt his heart skip a beat. Omegas really were cute. He was thankful that Hiroto was a beta because with the way he was looking at Atsushi things would have been a lot different if he was an alpha.

“Hiroto, would you mind fetching some hot water for the tea?” Tanizaki asked. Honestly, he didn’t need to convince the man anymore one look from Atsushi and Hiroto dashed as fast as he could to get a cup of hot water.

“You guys are too kind,” Atsushi smiled.

“You’re a frequent visitor here so it's only what is expected,” plus this is the most work Hiroto and Koyomi have done since the day started so Tanizaki is really grateful for Atsushi presence.

“Here’s your hot water,” Hiroto was back with a steaming cup of hot water and an even more disturbing confident smile plastered across his face. Tanizaki could see exactly where this was going before he even took the cup to make the tea. “So, Atsushi-san,” Hiroto talked in what Tanizaki think was an attempt at a cool voice. “What brings you here to A&D?” Koyomi loudly sneered to Hiroto’s flirting.

“Lunch,” Atsushi gestured to the bag as if he didn’t declare so before.

“Do you deliver lunches to everyone or just friends or…?”

“Okay, tea is ready,” Tanizaki quickly spoke up before Hiroto could embarrass himself.

“Thank you,” Atsushi took the cup and sipped. Tanizaki made sure to drag Hiroto away before he could even get another word out to Atsushi.

“What are you doing?” Tanizaki hissed to Hiroto under his breath.

“What? You think I’m going to get another chance with an omega?” Hiroto whispered back.

“Like you even have one. He could already be taken”

“And what are the chances of that?” Hiroto said in confidence. In that moment both Tanizaki and Hiroto turned around in time to see part of the blanket fall of Atsushi’s shoulder. By now Atsushi’s shirts was sticking to his skin and see through enough to see the mark on his shoulder.

“You were saying,” Tanizaki said before leaving Hiroto in his shocked position. “Atsushi-san maybe you could give us the name of the person so we can pass on the lunch for you.”

“That would be great,” Atsushi smiled.

“Great now all I need is a name.”

“Oh umm, Dazai Osamu.” Tanizaki and Koyomi movements topped as they now looked at Atsushi.

“Did you say Dazai Osamu?” Koyomi looked at Atsushi with wide eyes, “as in…?!”

“Atsushi-kun?” a voice caught all their attentions and Tanizaki soon found himself confronted with many of the big shots of the corporation standing in front of him including the source of the voice their CEO, Dazai Osamu.

“Dazai-sama,” Koyomi quickly got up and plastered on a giant smile for many of the alphas in front of her. “To what do we have the honor?”

“Atsushi-kun? What happened to you?” Dazai rushed around the desk to Atsushi completely ignoring Koyomi. “Did you try to commit a suicide in the river without me?” Dazai asked sounding hurt. Tanizaki heard that their CEO was weird even if they were excluding the bandage wrapped around his arms, hands and neck but this was killing it.

“The rain suddenly came pouring down on me and this happened,” Atsushi gestured to his wet figure.

“No comment on the suicide?” Ango, one of the executives of the company raised an eyebrow.

“Just shows you how used to Dazai he is,” Oda sighed.

“Umm Dazai,” one of the suited Alphas who have been watching Atsushi with keen eyes for some time now finally spoke. “Who is that lovely omega you got there?”

It was only for a split second but Tanizaki managed to catch something dark cross through Dazai’s eyes.

“Atsushi?” Dazai helped the omega out of the seat and hugged him close, “He’s my mate.” A hidden threat in the words sent to the other alpha’s watching. “Why didn’t you just come up to my office like usual?” Dazai asked now focused back on Atsushi.

“Just some complications,” Atsushi said preferring not to go into the details of it. “It’s all good now. Here.” Atsushi handed Dazai his lunch box which Dazai took and then grabbed Atsushi’s hand.

“Ango can you find some dry clothes for Atsushi?”

“Already on it,” Ango flipped out his phone and mad a call.

“I’m sorry gentlemen but I’m going to have to cut our time short,” Dazai smiled to the others. “It was a pleasure doing business with you all. Odasaku will show you to the door.” They all bowed and politely excused themselves not even daring to run their eyes over Atsushi.

“This is why I tell you to take the car,” Dazai mumbled to Atsushi. “You have such bad luck.”

“It’s fun to walk on the road, get some fresh air,” Atsushi pouted.

“And apparently take a swim too.”

“Now, you’re just being mean.”

“You asked for it,” Dazai shrugged. “Now let’s get you cleaned up.” Dazai lead Atsushi towards the elevator. Atsushi looked back at Tanizaki wanting to say something but Dazai was insistent in getting him out of his wet clothes first and like that Tanizaki’s first meeting with his CEO and his mate ended.

Tanizaki couldn’t believe these two. Even after an experience like that Hiroto and Koyomi were still slacking off! A&D was a very busy place and he was only managing to keep the reception area in order by the skin of his teeth. Tanizaki was too busy getting papers in order that he didn’t see two people approaching causing his co-workers to snap out of their lazy positions. “Tanizaki-san?” Tanizaki snapped around to the sound of the CEO’s voice. “Dazai-sama!” He bowed seeing Dazai and Atsushi right beside him in drier clothes and holding a blanket. “How may I assist you?” He looked up to find Atsushi bowing slightly and handing over the blanket.

“I just wanted to thank you for your kindness again,” Atsushi lifted his head and smiled.

“It’s fine,” Tanizaki took the blanket and shook his head. “I didn’t even have to go out of my way.”

“Still, thank you.”

“Well, it’s my pleasure,” Tanizaki smiled back. He felt happy that Atsushi was finally in some dry clothes and not the drenched mess he was when he entered earlier. He wondered if he caught a cold or fever. Atsushi did look flushed. And Tanizaki knows his lips weren’t that swollen when he entered nor did he have that giant bruise on his neck…. And this is where he stops thinking and not comment on how disheveled Dazai and Atsushi look.

“Atsushi-kun,” Dazai slipped his hand around Atsushi’s waist. Very obvious their CEO loved PDA. “Why don’t you go wait outside for me? I just need a word with Tanizaki-san here.”

Atsushi nodded and waved to Tanizaki, “Well I’ll see you tomorrow then.” Tanizaki did a small nod to Atsushi almost letting it slip his mind that the CEO personally wanted to talk to him.

“Umm, Dazai-sama,” Tanizaki said in a small voice as the latter obviously studied him under that mop of brown hair. “Is there something else that I can help ou with?”

“Well, maybe,” Dazai shrugged and leant on the table. “Atsushi was just telling me about how kind you are and on a whim, I just decided to pull up your file.”

“Oh,” Tanizaki couldn’t think of anything else to say. Why would the CEO specifically want to look at his file?

“I must say you’re an extremely hard worker,” Dazai’s comment left Tanizaki speechless and in awe. “Your manager had a lot of good things to say about you.”

“T-thank you, sir.”

“So here’s the thing one of my directors is looking for a personal assistant and let’s just say,” Dazai sighed, “he can be very particular but I think you’ll be a great fit for him.” Tanizaki couldn’t believe his ears right now. Kokomo mouth was hanging open. That was the job she would kill for (Lot's of quality time with the top people in the industry apparently). “It has great pay and you can even discuss your school schedule with him.” This was not happening. “I can even put in a recommendation if you want.” A recommendation from the owner of the company?! “So are you intreste…?”

“Yes!” Tanizaki yelled before Dazai could finish the sentence. “I mean, oh my god! That would be amazing!”

“Great,” Dazai gave an Oscar worthy smile. “I’ll send you the application and details tonight.”

“Thank you, Dazai-sama. You won’t regret this.” Tanizaki bowed.

“I know I won’t but just consider this a small thank you for taking care of him,” Dazai said before walking away to meet his mate. Tanizaki just had to stand there in awe he just got the offer of the lifetime from his CEO, who obviously really really really loved his mate just from giving that so said mate a blanket and some tea. He’s dreaming! He has to be! This kind of thing doesn’t happen in real life! A job away from his lazy co-workers with even better pay and flexible hours can’t be real! But it is and it gets all the more real when he gets called in for an interview. How helping the guy who walked in soaking wet changed his entire life!

He really had to thank Atsushi….

“Hello, I’m Kunikida Doppo, Director of Marketing,” his soon to be new boss held out his hand and Tanizaki almost made the mistake of not shaking it. Too busy getting hung over the director’s features.

“T-Tanizaki Junichirou.”

…. for giving him the opportunity to work for the most beautiful blonde alpha in this world.

Notes:

Okay, so this was just one of those stories where my head thought of something and wrote and I'm just going to post this. I have some ideas for a side story on Dazai and Atsushi and one on Kunikida and Tanizaki. So do you guys want it? Tell me in the comments what you think of it and the ramblings of my brain. I hope you enjoyed.
