Saitama stared at the ring in the glass case like it wanted to bite him.
He had no idea what drew him into the jewelry store. It wasn’t as though he could actually afford anything, but he walked in anyway and found himself looking at a tungsten wedding ring, the polished black and silver color reminding him of Genos’ plating a little. He wondered if the thing would even come in Genos’ size .
Which was a dumb thought.
Hell, he didn’t even know if Genos wanted to be married. The cyborg was so young. Maybe Saitama was just getting old, wanting to consider something like proposing...he blushed a little at the thought, turning around and walking out of the store.
Could they even get married? Technically, the person Genos had been before the accident was “dead” and by all accounts didn’t exist. Saitama, for his part, knew he couldn’t afford a wedding. They were so expensive…
But still, it was kind of nice to imagine. Genos was such a crier that he would probably ruin whatever way too nice tuxedo he would insist on wearing with the oil. He’d look like a supermodel while Saitama knew he’d just look silly in a suit that was both too tight and too loose in places.
Who would even come? It would have to be smaller, Genos hated crowds and so did Saitama so it would probably just be close friends and family. Fuck, well, Kuseno was family...and Mumen Rider would want to come and he’d bring Metal Bat and Zenko, and King would come, and Panic would probably crash the wedding...Fubuki would bring her cronies and Bang would want to show up with his student.
That wouldn’t be so bad, they were all pretty nice people.
Saitama walked along the street, head tilted back in thought. Genos would love to show off his cooking if they did a small party afterwards, and it would be cheaper. But Saitama would feel bad if he had to cook on his wedding day...maybe they could order something or go to a restaraunt.
But they’d make the cake together beforehand. That would be nice.
He smiled a little at the idea. He and Genos did make pastries together every so often but a wedding cake...that would be special. He could just imagine how his boyfriend would get, exacting in his standards, flour dusting his golden hair since, while he was an organized chef he wasn’t exactly a clean one, clean up usually happened afterwards.
Shaking his head, Saitama tried to expel the idea for now.
No, no wedding thoughts.
He continued walking down the street until he came upon a little coin machine, filled with pods that held different toy pieces of jewelry. Saitama blinked, reaching into his pocket for a one hundred yen coin.
Saitama blinked, an idea coming to him. He could take it as a sign. The machine had all kinds of jewelry in it, if he got a ring maybe he should consider this wedding thing more.
He placed the coin in the slot, turning the little crank before taking out the pod. The round plastic toy was a soft, gleaming blue, hiding its contents from the world. Giving it a little shake, he couldn’t really tell what was inside. His future could be in there! Hell, he could be facing either the largest decision of his life or the biggest bit of rejection ever.
He was almost nervous to open it but was saved from the choice as his phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Sensei!” Genos’ voice barked from the other side of the phone, “there’s an attack going on in City G, can you meet me there?”
He slid the pod into his pocket, nodding. “I’m on my way, okay?”
Saitama forgot about the little pod entirely as he ran off to help his disciple. The monsters involved were smaller creatures, but there were a lot of them and it took a while to smash each one into oblivion. Shockingly, Genos managed to stay in one piece but Saitama’s clothing had suffered, forcing him to walk home with large holes in his pants.
Hand in hand, they strolled down the street, hitting the city limits as they crossed into their nearly abandoned town. A soft breeze rustled the debris around them, making Genos’ hair flutter as he chatted softly. Saitama simply nodded along, listening to his boyfriend’s voice, wondering if he’d forgotten anything at the store until a little tug on his hand brought him back to the present.
“You were amazing, sensei!” Genos said, smiling brightly, holding Saitama’s hand as they walked.
“It wasn’t really anything, Genos,” Saitama replied, squeezing his hand, “I’m just impressed you’re all held together.”
Genos smiled, clearly proud of himself before his eyes went sharp at a sudden sound.
“Sensei, I believe you dropped something.”
Oh!
Saitama looked down, the glinting blue pod having fallen from his pocket. He knelt down, lifting it up before chuckling.
“What is that, sensei?” Genos asked, looking down at him.
As Saitama looked up he wondered what Genos would say if he mentioned his thoughts from earlier. If he asked, even as a joke.
But his boyfriend looked kind of...happy, flushed with a victory and excited to go home. They were both in one piece, on their way to go make the hot pot they’d been looking forward to all day and...and…
“Hey, Genos,” Saitama said softly, cracking open the pod and smiling at what he saw inside. He pulled out the little plastic ring, holding it up to Genos with a little snort as he saw his disciple’s hands fly to his own face, eyes already welling up with oily tears.
Shit, really?
“S-sensei?”
“Don’t get so excited, it’s plastic,” Saitama murmured before huffing, “but...can this be a placeholder until I get you a real one?”
“Y-you have to ask properly before I say yes, Saitama…” Genos was blushing, tears rolling down his face.
Saitama blushed himself, rubbing his cheek.
“Marry me?”
