Work Text:

Here’s a list of things Jimin expects and doesn’t expect when he starts dating Jeon Jeongguk. This list is sort of all over the place, so please try to keep up.

1.

Jimin expects Jeongguk to be affectionate.

And he is.

Jimin just sort of sees it coming because Jeongguk was affectionate when they were friends too. He’s adoringly adorable in the way that he likes to hold Jimin’s hand and sometimes hug Jimin. It’s okay, Jimin guesses because Jimin likes affections and he is more than happy to accept all the affections from Jeongguk thrown towards him with open arms.

Most people don’t expect Jeongguk to he this clingy baby he is, but he is. Jeongguk’s looks may contribute to it because he sort of looks like this chic dude who will kill people when they breathe the same air as him and he sort of just looks like the type to listen to All Time Low on full blast and think deep, punk thoughts. Well, that’s what Jimin sees from Jeongguk the first time. So it’s not a surprise when people look at them in shock when Jeongguk picks him up one day after his last class of the day after a long, long, long time of not seeing each other (well, three days) because Jeongguk has an away game. Jeongguk immediately hugs Jimin as he exits his lecture room, peppering his face with kisses and ‘I miss you’s and okay, Jimin misses him too and he may or may not have kissed Jeongguk back way too many times.

“Woah, I had no idea Jeon Jeongguk is this kind of guy,” his classmate points out, and Jimin can only winces at the observation, feeling Jeongguk nuzzle further into his hair, with said man’s arms around Jimin’s waist, either not hearing his friend’s comment or just blatantly ignoring his friend.

“He is, I guess,” Jimin replies, and he pats Jeongguk’s head. “Guk, stop. We have to get going. We’ll go to your apartment, okay?”

“No, I don’t wanna let go,” Jeongguk whines and he tightens the hold he has on Jimin’s waist. “I miss you.”

“Alright, alright. But we have to get going, don’t we?” Jimin coos, still patting Jeongguk’s head and Jeongguk pouts, resigning as he unravels the hold he has on Jimin’s waist. Jimin can feel his face heating up as his friend wriggles his eyebrows at him while he waves bye

at Jimin and Jeongguk.

“Yah, can’t you wait until we go to your apartment? I told you you don’t have to pick me up, right?” Jimin tries to scold, but honestly he’s so warm and fuzzy at the fact that Jeongguk is here the scold comes out kind of weak.

“Mm, I couldn’t wait to see you, though,” Jeongguk replies, and he puts his arms around Jimin’s waist again, and he directs them towards the exit, and they probably look ridiculous; looking like they’re almost waddling to the exit together but Jimin doesn’t really care because he has seen worse activities from other couples in their campus.

“I miss you,” Jimin mumbles, turning to look at Jeongguk and pecking Jeongguk’s cheek quickly.

“I miss you too,” Jeongguk mumbles into his ears.

2.

Jimin doesn’t expect to see Jeongguk talking really cosily with his ex.

But fuck, who actually would?

Jimin’s eyes twitch as Jeongguk continues to talk to his ex, his eyes lighting up in excitement as he converses with her. Fine, maybe Jimin is being too harsh because Jeongguk’s eyes are always tinkling, but hey, Jeongguk should try to practice selective eyes-twinkle because he’s sort of looking at her like she is still her girlfriend or something, and Jimin, coughs, his current boyfriend is sitting in front of him. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

They were just having a peaceful lunch together at a nice restaurant near their uni when Jeongguk’s ex come bounding to their table with her gorgeous smile and body, gushing about how it has been so long since she has last seen Jeongguk and she misses him. Yikes. Like yeah, duh, of course Jeongguk could’ve scored someone this pretty. Even now, she’s pretty; with her natural makeup look, her silky brown hair that looks fresh, and her style just screams feminine. Maybe Jimin is a bit insecure. Because Jimin knows that there are way better people out there that Jeongguk could’ve dated and yeah, okay, yeah he’s jealous.

“Jimin-hyung? Are you okay?” Jeongguk asks, and Jimin breaks away from his little train of thoughts. Jimin can see that his ex has gone away now.

“Yeah,” Jimin grumbles, and Jeongguk blinks at him, confused.

“Oh, okay,” Jeongguk replies, and Jimin looks at him expectantly.

“What? Jeongguk whines, and his hands fly to his face. “Do I have food on my face?”

“No,” Jimin sighs, and he nibbles on his food. “You have zero guilt on your face.”

“What?” Jeongguk asks again, confused, and Jimin huffs.

“Nevermind. Don’t talk to me. Shut up,” Jimin replies childishly, and Jeongguk just looks helpless at this point, wanting Jimin to just speak up.

Okay, fine. Jimin is being a little bit petty, but hey. Jeongguk is just too good looking that Jimin fears that Jeongguk would just drop him for someone who is better than Jimin. Like his ex, for instance.

“Did you date that girl long?”

“Sowon-noona? I don’t think so. Just one year or so?” Jeongguk replies.

Jimin winces. They are three months in.

“Oh, that’s long. Was she nice?” Jimin asks, and at this point, Jeongguk looks uncomfortable at the question, so he takes Jimin’s hand.

“Pretty nice,” Jeongguk replies, and he rubs Jimin’s hand with his thumb in a silent consolation.

“Why did you guys break up?”

“It just didn’t work out when she started going to uni. I had no idea her uni is close to ours, though,” Jeongguk replies, and he sighs. “I like you a lot, hyung. You know that, right?”

“I guess.”

“Well, I do, okay? I do. If you’re ever doubting that come tell me and I’d be happy to remind you,” Jeongguk replies determinedly, and Jimin has to laugh.

“Okay, you idiot.”

Jeongguk leans over the table and drops a kiss on Jimin’s forehead.

“Ah, how cute. You were jealous. Why can’t you see I only have eyes for you, huh?” Jeongguk asks, and Jimin remains silent, dumbfounded at the look of fondness plastered on Jeongguk’s face as he rubs Jimin’s hand.

They’re alright.

They’re alright and maybe Jimin can be a little less insecure because Jeongguk only has his eyes for Jimin.

Apparently.

3.

Jimin doesn’t expect Jeongguk to value his opinions a lot.

But he does. Even more so since they have started dating. It’s cute, Jimin guesses because he would ask for Jimin’s opinion on almost everything; ranging from his choice of clothes, buying this merch online, if he should actually take up his peers’ offer of taking him out clubbing, to eventually life choices.

Like this one.

“Do we get the spaghetti ramyeon or the shin ramyeon,” Jeongguk asks seriously, and Jimin looks at him in the same manner.

“What about both?” Jimin suggests, and Jeongguk’s eyes widen.

“God. This is why I dated you. Yes, true, mhm. True intellectual, my baby,” Jeongguk praises, and really, he deserves the kick on his foot.

4.

Jimin doesn’t expect Jeongguk to be the jealous type.

But he is.

It’s unexpected merely because Jeongguk is just so fucking attractive in Jimin’s eyes and Jimin wonders all the fucking time how did he even get so lucky to have someone like Jeongguk to like him back. It’s unexpected because Jimin knows quite a number of people in his social circle who would totally date Jeongguk if Jimin had not been dating Jeongguk. It’s unexpected because Jeongguk has a confidence of the fucking Namsan tower, and he sure as hell owns the confidence.

So it’s kind of ridiculous.

To find out that someone like Jeongguk, a smart and good looking guy whose future is bright, and is just the fucking sex god is scared of Jimin (a lesser version of Jeongguk) leaving him. As if Jimin would leave him.

They’re at the library when it happens. Jeongguk sitting in front of him while Jimin is typing up an essay on his laptop, and Jimin’s legs are perched on Jeongguk’s lap while Jeongguk’s hands are patting said legs. It’s becoming a habit now, getting together to study and do work together when in actuality it’s just Jimin and Jeongguk trying to spend some time together as much as possible while being productive because they almost never get to spend some time together with Jimin working to pay off his studies and Jeongguk joining the volleyball team of the uni. They’re both sort of ridiculous.

“Jiminnie!” A voice whispers-shouts and Jimin looks up from his laptop in alarm to be greeted with a face Jimin hasn’t seen in a while.

“Jaebum-hyung!” Jimin exclaims as quietly as he can and he drops his feet from Jeongguk’s lap, earning him a look of distaste from Jeongguk that he doesn’t even notice because he is so excited. “You didn’t tell me you came back from China already, you asshole!”

“Sorry, Jimin. Hyung has been busy these few days,” Jaebum replies, and he scratches his neck sheepishly. “I did bring you some souvenirs! It’s in my dorm though. You wanna come with hyung and we can talk for a while?”

“Oh, sure!” Jimin agrees readily, and Jeongguk’s face hardens even more as Jimin turns to look at Jeongguk hopefully. “Jeongguk, I’m going to Jaebum-hyung for a while, okay? Wait for me.”

“I guess,” Jeongguk grumbles lightly, and he looks away from Jimin’s eyes, and that’s all it takes for Jimin to zoom off with Jaebum by his side.

It takes 40 minutes for Jimin to return to the library, and by the time Jimin arrives with the goodies Jaebum brought for him, Jeongguk is already fuming.

“Who is he?” Jeongguk demands immediately just as Jimin sits down on the chair, and Jimin winces.

“Earlier?” Jimin asks, unsure, and when Jeongguk nods, he continues. “That was Jaebum-hyung, my old senior. He went to study in China for a year before going back here.”

“You two look cosy together,” Jeongguk points out snidely, and Jimin ignores the ugly frown on Jeongguk’s lips.

“Oh, we were! He helped me a lot with my class! I’m really grateful for him!” Jimin replies cheerily, and Jeongguk makes a face.

“I don’t like him,” Jeongguk decides childishly, and Jimin quirks an eyebrow.

“Really, why?” Jimin asks, entertaining him.

“He’s...cocky!” The other boy replies

“You’re cocky too, Guk,” Jimin points out, amused.

“Yeah, well, he’s cockier!” Jeongguk points out, and Jimin has to laugh.

“Jaebum-hyung is cocky sometimes, but you’re the same as him, Guk. What’s the difference?” Jimin shoots back, and Jeongguk looks annoyed at the observation.

“Well, is he better than me?” Jeongguk demands, and Jimin looks at him in surprise.

“Ya, where is this coming from?” Jimin asks, and he kicks softly at Jeongguk’s feet which earns him a huff.

“I don’t know!” Jeongguk huffs, and he stomps his feet on the floor softly. “Ask your hyung or something.

Oh.

Oh.

“You’re such an idiot, Guk. Are you jealous?” Jimin suggests, and the way Jeongguk’s face hardens even more is enough indication that yeah, Jeongguk is jealous indeed.

“So what if I was?” Jeongguk argues and there’s this childish pout on his lips that Jimin just has to laugh, earning him another disgruntled look from his boyfriend.

“You’re truly stupid, aren’t you?” Jimin wheezes out, and Jeongguk pouts even more. “Jaebum-hyung is just a friend. While you are my boyfriend. I dated you for a reason, Guk.”

“Really?” Jeongguk asks, and the angry exterior he tried to pull off fades into one of doubt. “You won’t leave me?”

“Hey, why would I?” Jimin whines and he kicks Jeongguk’s feet and that puts a little fond smile on Jeongguk’s face. “I’m dating the most handsome guy in the campus, aren’t I?”

“Oh,” Jeongguk says, eyes widening, and he tries to act like the compliment didn’t affect him as he broadens his shoulders. “You are. That’s true. Mhm.”

Jeongguk is ridiculous.

Ridiculously hot and ridiculously easy to please.

5.

Jimin doesn’t expect them to fight.

Okay, that’s false. Jimin totally knows what he’s signing up himself for when he starts dating Jeongguk who is an intolerant brat who is so fukcing stubborn. And plus, a relationship is never not rocky. So, okay fights keep the things healthy. But this, this, couldn’t be healthy.

“Jeongguk, are you seriously mad at me over this?” Jimin asks, his hands balled into a fist, and is now knocking incessantly on Jeongguk’s bedroom door.

“Yes! You just insulted the love of my life!” Jeongguk hollers back, his voice muffled and Jimin guesses that he has his face burried in the bed.

“I thought I was the love of your life,” Jimin tries to joke, and Jimin hears some rustling from the bedroom and suddenly Jeongguk’s voice is clearer. He must’ve moved closer towards the door.

“Not unless you take back your words about Tooru,” he says.

Tooru.

He even refers to the guy as if he’s not in some anime and is not fictional.

“I’m sorry I said that Oikawa Tooru is a stupid cocky guy who uses people for his own benefit,” Jimin says monotonously, and Jeongguk unlocks and opens the door, peeking his head out, and Jimin resists the great urge to flick his forehead.

“Promise you won’t insult my love again?”

Jimin sighs.

“I promise. Can you love me back now?” Jimin relents, and Jeongguk finally exits the room, hugging Jimin and burying his face in Jimin’s neck, and Jimin can only pat his back long-sufferingly.

“Do you know how hurt I was?! Tooru isn’t a manipulative guy! He’s just smart and he is so beautiful! How can you even say that about him?” Jeongguk sobs out.

Jimin sighs again. His boyfriend is ridiculous.

6.

Jimin doesn’t expect them to be the sappy and annoying couple Jimin aspires to never be.

But they sort of are.

Jimin doesn’t even notice it at first, and neither does Jeongguk because they’re a little too in love with each other so they sometimes barely even look at the world when they’re both together so it’s kind of odd and strange when Taehyung points it out and wants to put a stop to their constant OTT way of showing their affections for each other.

“This has got to stop,” Taehyung declares one night when they were having beer together at some tent near their dorm.

“What?” Jimin slurs out into Jeongguk’s neck, mouthing the words on Jeongguk’s neck, kissing it softly after his saliva is all over Jeongguks neck.

“This,” Taehyung gestures to them in a manner that can only be described as disgust. “This sappy shit you guys always do that makes me feel how lonely as shit I am.”

“Huh?” Jeongguk asks, the only one a little bit sober among them asks dumbly, and the way his head is resting against Jimin’s head and his arms around Jimin’s waist just proves Taehyung’s point further.

“Let us love each other in peace,” Jimin cries out, and he dunks down his soju. “Love you, Guk.”

“Love you too, sweetie,” Jeongguk mumbles back, patting Jimin’s butt softly, and kissing his head after.

“Ugh,” Taehyung says.

“Ugh, indeed,” Jeongguk echoes. “That’s what you get for being close with both of us, hyung.”

“Ugh,” Taehyung repeats, and this time, he slams his head down on the table.

“Ugh, indeed,” Jeongguk repeats.

7.

Jimin doesn’t expect him to be thirsting over Jeongguk’s dick.

Okay, another lie. He’s sort of always salivating over Jeongguk except in the morning after he gets wasted when he looks like a truck ran over him twice. But this, oh this, Jeongguk with his hands on his knees as he waits for a ball to come his way, sweat dribbling down his face and his kneepads, and oh god, Jimin is sort of dying at how hot he looks.

Jimin finally gets the chance to attend one of Jeongguk’s game because it is held in the uni’s volleyball court and he doesn’t have class at that time. Maybe he should have attended earlier games because this is quite a view. He really should have given in to Jeongguk’s pestering him to attend one of his games. The way he jumps up to block the ball makes his thighs’ muscles bulge out, and ugh, that’s the win of the day and the game ends with their school winning three sets. It’s amazing really, because Jeongguk is only a freshie, yet he’s already in the first strings.

Jimin can see Jeongguk quickly dashing to the changing room right after they finish up formalities after game and dashes out just as quickly as he had dashed in. he comes out fresh-faced and not sweaty and suddenly, all that previous game sexiness was gone and it is replaced by the wide-eyed baby Jeongguk is, and suddenly the subtle hard-on Jimin was supporting earlier calmed down.

“Hyung!” Jeongguk calls out cheerily, and Jimin waves back at him, quickly going over to him and holding his hand. “I did well didn’t I?”

“You did,” Jimin replies softly, and he pats Jeongguk’s head, earning him a look of glee from said boy. “You were also quite sexy in the court, Guk. I got a hard-on.”

“Oh,” Jeongguk says, his pupils blowing out as he looks at Jimin in surprise, and he squeezes their intertwined hand.

“I wanna suck you off,” Jimin blurts out.

Oh, ” Jeongguk repeats dumbly, and suddenly the walk back to Jeongguk’s apartment is a lot more faster than usual.

8.

Jimin expects Jeongguk’s flirting to decrease since they start dating.

But they don’t.

In fact, they just increased drastically.

Sometimes it goes like this:

“Baby, what’s that on your face?”

Then Jimin would put his hand over his face, “what?”

Jeongguk would say: “It says mine.”

Or sometimes when Jimin is in class.

Jeonggukie baby: hyung i think i’m sick :(

My baby love: wth baby?? You were okay when i left u for class earlier. U want me to get some meds after class????

Jeonggukie baby: no, i just need to see ur face bc u left this morning without waking me up and giving me a kiss and now im just deprived of ur face

My baby love: i’m really gonna block you

Oh, modern romance.

9.

Jeonggukie baby: i’m in class and all i can think about is ur dikc

Jeonggukie baby: dick

My baby love: ure nasty pay attention to the lecture

Jeonggukie baby: but your DICK

My baby love: why do i love you

Jeonggukie baby: dickkkkkkkkkk

Repeat: oh, modern romance.

10.

Days like these are the best.

It’s Saturday, and Saturday is always good because it’s part of the weekend and it always starts with Jimin waking up to Jeongguk’s face, with either his face in the very sweet and comfortable crook of Jeongguk’s neck or Jeongguk breathing down his neck, there is no in between when it comes to Saturday; it just always ends up with their body tangling with each other. Jeongguk looks nice likes this, in Jimin’s arms, with the sunlight streaming from the little peek that wasn’t completely closed from the window. He looks soft and innocent and he’s Jimin’s.

“I can feel you staring,” Jeongguk mumbles lowly as he cracks his eyes open, his voice deep from sleep and Jimin falls a little bit more in love.

“I can’t help it. You look cute.”

“And you say I’m the cheesy one, hyung,” Jeongguk muses, and he yawns. “I’ve been thinking.”

“Thinking? Already? We just woke up, Guk,” Jimin says back.

“I know. I know. But I’ve been thinking for a while,” Jeongguk mumbles into Jimin’s shirt.

“Spit it.”

“Move in with me.”

“Oh,” Jimin says. “Will your parents mind?”

“Nah. They’re cool with it. You know they like you, hyung,” Jeongguk replies easily.

“Okay, I’ll move in with you,” Jimin replies, and Jeongguk nuzzles his nose into Jimin’s shirt.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”
