Chapter 1: Are You a Spotlight? ‘Cause Your Beauty is Blinding
Chapter Text
Yoongi swore on his life that he’d never become a theatre kid or a stage tech kid over and over for his first two years of high school. He’d refuse to even step foot in the theatre, even when one of his closest friends had a big role (he bought the musical on video, so he’s still a good friend fuck off Seokjin), as he hated theatre kids. They were too social and loud and fucking annoying.
The theatre cult had taken over all his friends by sophomore year, sucking them into either stage tech or the acting world, or both, but Yoongi was having none of it. Acting and singing was physically painful to Yoongi, and why would he waste his Tuesday afternoons making stuff for plays and musicals that he couldn’t care less about. He could waste his afternoons doing something else, like binge-watching shows or writing songs, because he’s just that damn cool.
So when Yoongi stepped into the studio theatre for the first time ever towards the beginning of the first semester of his senior year, he felt like he was betraying everything he had ever lived for. He had made the mistake of making a bet with Namjoon and, as he was a very cocky person, thought he could win. Of course, Yoongi ended up losing, as apparently, Yoongi wasn’t very good at skateboarding, he was really bad and was forced to join stage tech and be one of the stage managers, since Namjoon was the student director and they needed more help.
The green haired teen looked over at Yoongi’s sour expression as the two of them walked onto the stage and chuckled, “Lighten up, you’ll learn to love theater, mark my words.”
“Nope. Nada. Nilch. Never. I’m breaking my sacred oath by just being here. The dumb training you made me do was worse,” he snapped back, glaring at the taller teen.
A large hand was placed on Yoongi’s shoulder, and he turned around, looking up at the gorgeous face of Kim Seokjin, “I can’t believe you’re actually here! You didn’t even show up to watch Our Town last year.”
Both of Yoongi’s friends shared a laugh while the shorter teen glared and flipped them off. He glanced around the studio theatre and saw that there was a good amount of students in the room, ranging from seniors to freshmen.
“I hate this place. It’s a fucking cult,” he hissed, only amusing his friends further.
Slapping Yoongi’s back as he laughed, which caused Yoongi immense pain, Seokjin said in a suggestive tone, “Well you know, most the guys here are gay~”
Although normally a statement like that would cheer Yoongi up immediately, but hearing Seokjin say it made him purse his lips and make a sound of disgust.
“I would never date a theater kid, they’re loud and really fucking annoying, and I have something called standards,” he said sharply, folding his arms.
Before either of his friends could say anything, a loud yell of Seokjin’s name echoed in the theatre, and when Yoongi turned around, he came face to face with the prettiest guy he’d ever seen. High cheekbones with a nice nose and heart shaped lips. His skin was a golden tan, his eyes an amber brown, and hair a light shade of peach orange. As the boy got closer, a huge, blinding smile spread across his face, directed at Seokjin.
As soon as Yoongi saw the peach haired boy, he felt his heartbeat speed up and stomach churn, and he thought, holy shit, he’s actually the fucking sun.
“Seokjin, Namjoon, it’s good to see you!” the sunshine boy’s voice was just as bright as the rest of him, and Yoongi felt dazed just by looking at him.
He flinched when Namjoon patted Yoongi’s back, making the peach haired teen look at him and oh crap he’s looking at him. Yoongi stared back at Hoseok like a deer caught in headlights.
Oblivious as always, Namjoon gestured to Yoongi, “This is our friend, Yoongi Min, he’s going to be the stage manager this year, although I’m still training him. And Yoongi, this is Hoseok Jung, he’s one of the best performers that we have.”
Although Yoongi’s mind was screaming , he was able to smile at Hoseok and nod his head to show that he was actually listening, as he didn’t trust his vocal chords to actually work. Both Namjoon and Seokjin looked at each other with wide eyes, expecting Yoongi to be an ass towards Hoseok.
Somehow, Hoseok’s smile grew, which only made Yoongi’s chest hurt more, “Ah, that’s so cool! We were all worried that we weren’t going to have a stage manager for the show. Thank you for volunteering!”
“It’s no problem. It’ll be fun,” Yoong’s response made Namjoon burst into laughter, although Seokjin smacked his arm to get him to shut up.
Some of the other cast members shouted from the other side of the theatre for Hoseok to join them, and he turned to smile one last time at the three friends.
“I’ll see you guys around. It was nice to meet you, Yoongi,” with that Hoseok walked away, giving Yoongi a great view of his nice legs and ass.
As soon as the peach haired teen was out of earshot, Namjoon snickered, hitting Yoongi’s shoulder a few times, “Holy shit, what did I just witness? Yoongi Min being nice to a theater kid?!”
Yoongi would admit it, he was an ass towards theatre kids most of the time, as they really got on his nerves. However, he could never think of being mean to a piece of sunshine like Hoseok. His bright smile was burned into Yoongi’s mind, he could see it whenever he blinked.
“You literally picked the worst person in this room to have a crush on,” Seokjin’s voice ripped Yoongi from his thoughts, “First off, he’s hella popular, so he could date whoever he wanted.”
Ignoring Yoongi’s scoff and “fuck you, man,” Seokjin continued, “And secondly, he’s straight.”
Nothing would stand in Yoongi’s way of making that sunshine prince his, so Yoongi said smugly, “I’ve made plenty of boys realize just how gay they really are.”
When Namjoon tried to voice his agreement, Seokjin gave him a pointed look, making the green haired boy shut up immediately. Man, he was whipped. Yoongi swore he’d never be as whipped for someone as Namjoon is for Seokjin, but it seemed like he was breaking a lot of the promises he made recently.
“While that is true, you’re not going to be able to do that to Hoseok. Yes, he’s very touchy-feely and affectionate, but he’s also very straight,” it was obvious that the pink haired boy was feeling exasperated by the way he talked.
The two quickly got into an argument, with a lot of hand gestures and angry expressions, but Namjoon quickly broke them up, used to having to deal with them.
“If you two could go sit down in the house, I want to start the meeting,” he said sternly, and the two friends complied, taking seats in the front row.
Yoongi realized that Hoseok was sitting on the other side of Seokjin and silently cursed his friend for sitting next to his future husband. As soon as Namjoon clapped his hands together, silence fell over the studio theatre, and all the students sat down. A warm, welcoming smile spread across his face, showing off his dimples.
His voice boomed across the studio theater, “Welcome, everyone, to our first cast meeting slash revealing the parts for the Music Man! Mr. Rossi, our director, will be a little late, so I am going to explain some stuff about the musical and the process.”
A few people cheered, and the green haired boy continued, “So, we’ll have at least one all-cast meeting every week, but if you have a bigger role, you may be called in multiple times. Make sure you check the website, we’ll be updating the schedule constantly. Also, we’ll be having some of the local middle school and elementary school students playing the young children of the show, so make sure you watch your mouths around them when they are here.”
As Namjoon was answering questions that some cast members had, the doors to the theater opened and Mr. Rossi walked in, an apologetic smile on his face.
“So sorry that I’m late, I promise it won’t happen again,” he hurried to join Namjoon on the side, whose facial expression proved that it would in fact happen again.
Once Namjoon was handed a sheet of paper from the teacher, he cleared his throat and said in a dramatically solemn tone, “And now, to announce everyone's roles.”
Everyone in the audience stopped moving, anxiously staring at Namjoon and clutching to their friends. After clearing his throat yet again, the green haired boy started to speak. He listed off the group of girls playing the Pickalittle Ladies, then the group of cast members assigned to be the Teen Dancers, then a few of the supporting characters, like Tommy Djilas, Mayor Shinn, and Zaneeta Shinn.
“Now for some of the bigger roles: Marcellus will be played by Hoseok Jung, Marian by Elise Pisano, and Harold Hill will be played by Seokjin Kim.”
The two actors hugged each other, then high fived the brunette girl sitting in the row behind them, who was presumably Elise, as the other cast members cheered. Yoongi saw how Namjoon was staring lovingly at Seokjin, and although he may have helped Seokjin get the lead, the pink haired boy definitely deserved the part.
As the cheering died down, Namjoon gave the paper back to Mr. Rossi and said,“If your name wasn’t called, don’t fret, you’re a towns person and are in the ensemble. Now, I’d like to introduce you all to a special person, Yoongi, get your lazy ass up here and introduce yourself.”
Stifling a groan, Yoongi got up from his seat and shuffled up onto the stage, aware that everyone in the theater was staring at him. And he was very aware of the fact that Hoseok was staring right at him with a sweet smile, which made his palms start to get kinda sweaty.
“Sup, my name’s Yoongi Min and I’m gonna be the stage manager. Yes, I have literally no experience managing anything theater related, but Namjoon has been torturing- sorry, training me, and I’ll do my very best. Yeah, uhm, thanks,” he drawled in a confident tone, even though he was ill-prepared for the job.
A few people laughed at his dry sense of humor and clapped when he went back to his seat. Soon, after a few more questions were asked, the cast was dismissed, knowing that they would return soon enough the next week for more rehearsals.

Chapter Text
As Yoongi was doing some layup drills during his team’s basketball practice, out of the corner of his eyes he saw a flash of two heads of pink and green hair near the entrance to the gym. He knew it was Seokjin and Namjoon, as who else would have such obnoxious hair colors? However, Yoongi was dedicated to his sport, as he was their school's point guard, so he continued on with practice without acknowledging his friends.
Once the team captain, a tall senior with dyed red hair named Theo, ended the practice, Yoongi grabbed a towel and mopped up the mess of sweat on his forehead and neck, before grabbing his water bottle and gulping it down like a man in the Saharan desert.
Yoongi! Good job today!” their center, a huge tower of a junior named Emil (curse his Scandinavian genes), smacked Yoongi’s back as he passed the shorter boy.
Of course, as Emil’s hands were fucking huge and Yoongi was caught off guard, he stumbled when the blonde’s hands came in contact with his back, and when Emil laughed at him, he gave him a pointed glare. He always cursed his teammates’ height, as he was the shortest on the team, even though it was a blessing on the court. As Emil walked over to their small forward, Dante, Yoongi heard Seokjin calling his name and turned around to greet his friends, only to be met with the sight of Hoseok standing between his two friends.
Why did Hoseok have to show up when Yoongi looks and definitely smells gross? His t-shirt was soaked with his sweat and stuck to his back, and his hair was matted against his forehead. However, Hoseok smile was as bright as it was at the rehearsal where they first met, which was only a few days ago.
“I thought your name and face were familiar, I’ve come to a lot of your guys’ games. You’re such a good player,” he said genuinely, making Yoongi’s heartbeat speed up.
A cute, gummy smile wormed it’s way onto Yoongi’s face, squishing his cheeks up, “Oh, thank you. I’d hope I’d be at least decent, as I’ve been playing for a while.”
“You’re seriously amazing. It’s always entertaining to watch you speed around the court and dodge guys on the other team,” he smiled brightly, and Yoongi would pay to see that smile forever.
Namjoon ruined their moment by slinging his arms around Yoongi and saying in a teasing tone, “Back in elementary school, he was shit at sports. He was a gangly little kiddo who could barely shoot.”
As Hoseok broke out into a fit of giggles, which were the cutest giggles that Yoongi had ever heard, the ravenet stomped on Namjoon’s foot, making the green haired teen yelp in pain.
“Well, at least I’ve had a glo up since then, I mean, look at me,” he said with a cocky smirk, winking towards Hoseok.
Surprisingly, Hoseok’s cheeks became tinged pink after Yoongi winked at him ,and all he could think was fuck you, Seokjin, told you I could make him gay. When Hoseok let out a embarrassed, high-pitched giggle, Yoongi almost died from how cute the peach haired boy was.
“If you two would stop flirting, we could actually ask Yoongi what we came here to ask him,” Seokjin grumbled, gaining the other teen’s attention, “We wanted to ask you if you wanted to go out to Empirica Diner for burgers. ‘Cause I know you’re always starving after practice.”
Normally, Namjoon and Seokjin would try and invite Yoongi out, and the ravenet would always say no, as the two of them were disgustingly affectionate and he’d always end up feeling like a third wheel around them. But Seokjin was smart, and knew Yoongi wouldn’t say no if Hoseok was tagging along.
He nodded, patting his forehead with the towel again, “Sure, let me shower and change first.”
The three waited for Yoongi to finish up outside the gym, and after about ten minutes or so, he emerged from the locker room with damp hair, wearing an over-sized blue sweatshirt and black skinny jeans. He jogged over to his friends, a small smile on his face.
To get to the diner, Seokjin had to drive them, but eventually, they made it. They sat down and ordered their food, Namjoon and Seokjin quickly getting into one of their many domestic arguments. Yoongi found an excellent time to talk to Hoseok and get to know him better, and turned over to his right to look at the sunshine boy sitting next to him.
“So, how long have you done theater for?” he asked, placing his elbows on the table and leaning his chin on his hand.
Hoseok sipped from his water glass before answering, “For a while. I was in all of our middle school productions. I started with dancing, which I still do today, and my sister made me audition for a show in fifth grade and the rest is history.”
“What kind of dancing do you do?” Yoongi prompted, and Hoseok looked pleased that he was so interested in his activities.
When he talked, Hoseok got more and more passionate, moving his hands around excitedly, “All kinds, but I love hip-hop the most! I’m in a local street dancing team called NEURON, we performed at the homecoming rally last year. We’ll be doing it again, which is gonna be awesome!”
Many people thought that Yoongi was the kind of person to not show up to school events like pep rallies and games, but he went to as many as he could. However, during the homecoming rally last year, Yoongi was a little distracted getting head from a cute guy in his Pre-Cal class in the gym bathroom, so he missed most of the rally.
“Hm, I missed most of the rally while making up a test, but I can’t wait to see you perform this year,” he smiled suavely at Hoseok, enjoying how the peach haired boy’s face heated up as he smiled with pride.
“Uhm,” Hoseok cleared his throat, regaining his composure, “What do you do other than basketball?”
Well, Yoongi was a loser, so most of the time he was either at the gym practicing basketball or at home writing lyrics and creating melodies for songs instead of hanging out with other people. But Yoongi was worried that if he were to talk about his composing hobby, Hoseok would want to hear his music, and that would be embarrassing for him.
“I compose and produce my own music,” the sentence slipped through Yoongi’s lips before he could stop himself.
However, before he could mentally berate himself, Hoseok gasped in amazement, such an adorable sound that Yoongi no longer regretted saying what he said.
Hoseok bounced in his seat, eyes sparkling with wonder and excitement, “No way! That’s so cool! What’s the name you posted your songs under, if you did at all?”
Ignoring the fact that he was definitely sweating from nervousness, Yoongi said in a coolest tone he could muster, “Look up Agust D on SoundCloud.”
Just then was when Seokjin decided to interrupt their bonding time, ”Woah! Yoongi rarely tells people about his music! That means you’re special to him, Hoseok.”
Hoseok giggled while Yoongi aimed a kick at Seokjin’s legs under the table, glaring at the pink haired teen, who was laughing his annoyingly loud laugh at Yoongi’s expression. They paused their conversation when the waiter came by with their food and drinks, and the teens happily dug into their food. As Yoongi devoured his hamburger, Namjoon gave him a look that meant he was up to no good.
“So, Hoseok, do you think we should put a group chat together, as we’re all going to be working pretty closely together,” Yoongi didn’t miss the eyebrow wiggle Namjoon sent his way, sticking his tongue out at him in response, “because of the musical?”
If it was anyone other than Namjoon offering to put both Yoongi and Hoseok into the same group chat, Yoongi would be very grateful, but he didn’t trust Namjoon at all. He and Seokjin shared a look that made Yoongi very suspicious, as Namjoon was bad enough by himself, but with Seokjin? Yikes, just yikes.
Of course Hoseok responded with a cheery, “Yeah, that’d be fun!”
“Let me add you to the group chat that we already have,” Seokjin said, taking out his phone.
Yoongi nearly had a heart attack, screeching, “No!”, and slapping the phone from Seokjin’s hands. Everyone at the table stared at him looking confused, in Hoseok’s case, or startled, in Namjoon’s case. Seokjin wasn’t even trying to hide his shit-eating grin, as he very well knew that their chat was currently named I'D PAY TO SUCK HOSEOK'S DICK, and that Yoongi’s screen name was still Future Mr. Jung.
“Why don’t we just create a brand new one? I’ll do it later tonight,” Yoongi said as calmly as possible, regaining his composure.
Poor Hoseok still looked confused, “Sure, why not?”
With a silent sigh of relief, Yoongi shot Seokjin a deadly glare before taking out his phone and put Hoseok’s contact information into his phone. He silently congratulated himself for getting Hoseok’s number so quickly, even though he really didn't do any work to get it.
“Well, I’m very glad that you are getting along with Yoongi, Hoseok. He isn’t exactly well-liked ‘cause of how arrogant he is,” Seokjin said in a teasing tone, gaining another kick from the ravenet.
But Hoseok only smiled that sunny smile of his, as he’s too pure for this cruel world, “Yoongi is a very enjoyable person to be around! I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The rest of their dinner went well, with plenty of teasing from Seokjin and Namjoon, and once they had finished up, they headed outside, and Yoongi started to say his goodbyes and walk away from the three.
“Where the hell do you think you’re going, Yoongi Min?” Seokjin said sternly, grabbing the ravenet’s shoulder before he could get too far.
He blinked a few times, realizing he couldn’t escape that easily, “I’m goin’ to the bus stop. I don’t want to be a burden on you and make you drive me again.”
With a loud huff, the pink haired boy started to drag Yoongi towards his car, the other two trailing after him, “No you ain’t, I’m driving you home and that’s final.”
Yoongi couldn’t argue and allowed himself to be shoved into the back seat of the blue car, Hoseok soon sliding into the seat next to him. The car was small, so their shoulders brushed against each other and Yoongi was very happy about that.
When Seokjin pulled up in front of Hoseok’s house, the peach haired boy smiled brightly at Yoongi, “We should hang out more. Thanks for the ride, Seokjin!”
He hopped out of the car, walking inside the cute house, and Yoongi realized that he now knew where Hoseok was living, no big deal.
“Holy shit, Yoongi! I think Hoseok might be into you!” Seokjin all but screeched as he started driving again.
All Yoongi could do was smugly smirk at the pink haired teen through the mirror, very pleased with the turn of events.

With a loud screech, Yoongi was woken up from his nap on one of the absurdly comfortable couches in the greenroom by someone dumping a bottle of water on his face. He shot up from the fetal position he was in, rubbing water from his eyes and glaring up at whomever had woken him up in such a rude way.
“What the fuck, Seokjin?! Couldn’t you have woken me in up in, I don’t know, a normal way?” Yoongi’s voice dripped with as much venom as there was water dripping off his face and hair.
He giggled, tossing a towel at Yoongi’s face, “You don’t think I tried? I tried to shake you awake and all that jazz,
but you weren’t budging. Hurry up and dry off, rehearsal is starting soon.” “Wait, Seokjin, I was listening to some of the songs in the musical-” Yoongi started, but Seokjin interrupted him with a gasp.
His hands flew to his chest, and he said in a teasing tone, “Wow, you listened to the songs, I’m so proud of you!!”
With a glare, Yoongi continued, “Shut up, you fucker. As I was saying, why was Hoseok picked for Marcellus? Like the original Marcellus has a hella annoying voice, and Hoseok doesn’t.”
“Mr. Rossi, Gabby, who’s our choreographer, by the way, and Namjoon made the pick, so I really don’t know the real reason. But maybe they wanted a less annoying Marcellus? Now, we should go,” Seokjin smiled devilishly one last time at Yoongi before running into the theater.
After Yoongi dried off his black locks and his face, he shuffled out into the main theater, where Namjoon and Mr. Rossi were already talking to the cast members, who were grouped up into several smaller groups.
“...so discuss with your family units what your family’s objective is, and give each of your characters their own personality and objective. Jump to it!” Mr. Rossi clapped his hands and the cast members immediately started talking excitedly in their groups.
When the energetic drama teacher saw Yoongi, he gestured for the ravenet to go over to where he and Namjoon were standing downstage.
“Ah, Yoongi! I don’t think we’ve met formally just yet. I do want to thank you again for helping out. I thought we’d be stuck without a stage manager, and that would have been awful,” Mr. Rossi said in his usual boisterous tone.
Smiling back at the contagiously happy teacher, Yoongi said, “I’m excited for this opportunity.”
Namjoon snorted quietly, but one sharp glare from Yoongi shut him up. With a loud laugh, Mr. Rossi patted Yoongi’s back, which felt like a fucking giant was roundhouse kicking him, then went down into the house to talk to the choreographer.
“At least you’ve left a good impression on him,” Namjoon snickered, “Even though you’re flat out lying.”
The ravenet shrugged, “Actually, I think I’m gonna have some fun.”
With a loud chortle, Namjoon said in a teasing tone, “Lemme guess, because of Hoseok and the fact that you want to suck his dick?”
“Stop kinkshaming me, Mr Daddy Kink. And for the record, I want to suck his dick tenderly and lovingly,” he replied, laughing at how red Namjoon’s face turned.
Luckily for Namjoon, Mr. Rossi called the two of them over and got the cast members into a big circle. As Yoongi looked around for Hoseok, he noticed a certain blonde girl, none other than Veronica, Yoongi’s new rival, standing next to Hoseok, making him laugh. Seeing her make Hoseok laugh and smile made Yoongi’s blood boil, he couldn’t stand for that. Yoongi not-so-subtly sped walked to where Hoseok was standing and squeezed into the circle next to the peach haired boy, shoving Veronica out of his way.
“Hello, Hoseok,” he flashed his cutest smile at the tanned boy, ignoring the glare from the blonde girl next to him.
Before the younger teen could respond, Namjoon started to explain one of the theater games they were going to play. Yoongi hadn’t heard much about theater games, but knew that most involved making a fool of yourself, something Yoongi was very good at doing. However, as Hoseok looked very excited about playing the games, Yoongi tried to pump himself up.
Soon enough, everyone was sitting in a circle, and a Pickalittle lady, Camila la Mae, was sitting in the center, and Taehyung Kim, the baritone of the school board members in the play was picked as the murderer. He would have to wink subtly at the other cast members, and, whoever he winked at had to die as dramatically as possible, while Camila had to find out who the murderer was.
The game started pretty normally, with everyone breaking out into giggles when especially creative teens were “murdered” and died in an amusing way, but Yoongi was still rather bored. But when Taehyung winked at Hoseok, the peach haired boy cried out dramatically about how he had been shot, swaying in place until he fell over into Yoongi’s lap, staring up at him with squinted eyes.
“My love, take your time,” he rose a hand to touch Yoongi’s face, which was turning pink rapidly, “I’ll see you on the other side…”
Yoongi froze as Hoseok went limp, finally “dying,” and the group burst out into laughter, teasing Yoongi about how red his face was.
“I can’t believe you made a Hamilton reference, you piece of trash,” the tenor of the school board members, Jimin Park
Soon enough, Camila caught Taehyung in the act, and after another two round, they switched to a different game, gathering up into a mob-like group center stage.
As Namjoon explained more of the game, Yoongi knew he was going to hate it: the cast members had to walk around close to each other, and, yell out “Je tombe” before they fell backwards or forwards. People nearby were supposed to catch them before they hit the floor, which was fucking terrifying.
When the game started, Yoongi followed Hoseok as closely as possible without seeming suspicious, as he wanted to reenact one of those classic shoujo manga scenes: Hoseok would fall, and Yoongi would gracefully catch him, holding him close, and then Hoseok would fall in love with him. Or maybe the opposite would happen, where Yoongi is caught by Hoseok, and gets to be super close to him. Okay, maybe not the last thing, but Yoongi would look cool as fuck in front of Hoseok.
But fucking Veronica had to get in his way, shouting out “je tombe” and falling onto Hoseok, who, of course, caught her with his nicely-built arms. She smiled up at him, and he smiled back, getting her back onto her feet. Yoongi felt his blood boil, knowing exactly what the blonde girl was planning.
However, the tables were turned when Hoseok decided to yell “je tombe,” tipping forwards, and Yoongi was way faster than that bitch Veronica. He was in front of Hoseok, so Yoongi wrapped his arms around Hoseok’s torso, prepared to catch the peach boy. But his foot slipped and he tumbled backwards, pulling Hoseok with him.
People shouted and moved out of the way, and Yoongi’s back hit the floor of the stage, Hoseok’s head smacking his forehead and making him shout out. When Yoongi opened his eyes, he was centimeters away from Hoseok, so close he could see every small freckle across his tanned skin and just how long his eyelashes were. The peach haired teen’s cheeks were pink as he scrambled to get up, apologizing rapidly to Yoongi
He took Yoongi’s slightly bigger hands in his own, helping the ravenet to his feet, “I’m so sorry, Yoongi.”
“No, no, it’s my fault, I’m the one who tripped,” Yoongi winced, rubbing his back.
He could see Veronica glaring at him out of the corner of his eyes, but he could only smirk back, knowing he had won this round.
“There’s always an injury in this game, but normally it’s Namjoon who gets hurt,” Seokjin said in a teasing tone, sticking out his tongue at the green haired teen.
They transitioned to their last game, which Yoongi quickly realized would be the best chance to get closer to Hoseok. The game was pretty simple, you would point at someone and make eye contact with them to start. Once they yell ‘go”, you would run to where they were standing in the circle and they had to do the same to someone else before you got to where they were. If you couldn’t outrun the person, your punishment was to kiss the person you didn’t outrun on the neck.
When the game started, everyone was yelling and bouncing where they stood, pumped with adrenaline from the game. Jimin pointed at Yoongi, finally, and Yoongi switched places with him, pointing at Hoseok with a smirk. He ran as fast as he could, which was pretty fast, as he was the point guard and the fastest player on the basketball team. Before Hoseok could switch with someone else, Yoongi caught up to him, smirk growing as he saw Hoseok’s cheeks turn pink.
“Kiss already!” Namjoon shouted, making Hoseok squeak and blush more.
Quick as a flash, Hoseok pressed his lips against Yoongi’s neck, dashing away as soon as possible. A grin spread across Yoongi’s face at how adorable Hoseok was, and how he had already scored a kiss from the peach haired teen.
After they had finished up rehearsal, a few groups of cast members mingled in groups in the green room, chatting enthusiastically. Yoongi joined Namjoon and Seokjin, smiling brightly at his two friends.
“What a fun rehearsal. I can’t wait until next week,” he said cheerfully.
Namjoon snickered, “I’m actually impressed that you got so much skinship with him today. Props to you.”
Yoongi heard a loud burst of giggling, and turned to see Hoseok talking energetically with Taehyung and Jimin, waving his arms around excitedly and smiling that gorgeous heart-shaped smile of his. When Hoseok looked up in his direction and they made eye contact, Yoongi quickly looked back at Seokjin and Namjoon, feeling embarrassed.
“You’re so whipped,” Seokjin teased, Yoongi stomping on his foot in response.
Notes:
Fun fact: I hate theater games, they're just anxiety disguised as a team building exercise. Like we were playing Point and Go and one of the "cool dudes" fell on my friend who fell on me and I hurt my leg :((( never. again.

Chapter Text
“I’m salty,” Yoongi whined, leaning backwards from his spot on Seokjin’s couch, as they were hanging out after school.
Without looking up from the TV where he and Namjoon were playing Mario Kart, Seokjin said matter-of-factly, “We already knew that.”
“No, but, the number one bitch in the world Veronica gets to dance with Hoseok in that dumbass Shipoopi number,” he complained, eyebrows furrowing, “Not fair! I want to dance with him!”
Namjoon failed to stifle his sigh, “Well, they’re characters are a couple, and you're not in the cast, y’know.”
“And Shipoopi is not a dumb number! It’s actually a lot of fun,” added Seokjin, who sent Yoongi a dirty look.
The ravenet let out another loud whine, making Seokjin shush him loudly, which in turn, made Yoongi do his signature “fuck you” expression towards the pink haired teen. Sadly, Yoongi’s obsession with Hoseok was only growing as they spent more time together.
How could you blame Yoongi? Hoseok was the human embodiment of the sun, full of gorgeous smiles and fits of giggles that were infectious. Yoongi had recently discovered how easily scared and jumpy Hoseok was, and how adorable his screams were. Any time someone made a loud noise around him, the peach haired teen would screech and jump, clinging to the person next to him. What Yoongi wouldn't do to spend more time with Hoseok...
Yoongi shot up all of the sudden, eyes wide, “Should I ask him out?”
“I seriously don’t care, just please shut up and stop distracting me from kicking Namjoon’s ass,” Seokjin sassed back, eyes focused on the video game in front of him.
“Wow, rude,” he huffed, taking out his phone.

Letting out a noisy whine, Yoongi smashed a pillow against his face,“Well, shit.”
Luckily for him, Seokjin and Namjoon hadn’t started another round yet, so he was able to gain his friends’ attention by whining so loudly.
“What’s got your panties in a twist?” Namjoon asked teasingly, gaining another groan from his ravenet friend.
He furrowed his brows, “Hoseok is hanging out with Veronica! What the fuck?!”
His two friends exchanged an exasperated look, as they had to deal with Yoongi’s whining about Hoseok for the last few days. Of course, they also had to listen to the ravenet constantly raving about the junior, but they couldn’t decide which was worse.
“They’ve got to get along, as they’re going to be working together,” When Namjoon said this, Seokjin groaned loudly, knowing that Namjoon had said the absolute wrong things.
Yoongi went silent for a few seconds, before letting out an ear-piercing shriek, making Seokjin wince and Namjoon yell for the ravenet to shut up. Whenever Yoongi was upset, he’d either avoid everyone or make as much noise as possible, and his friends had learned this the hard way.
“I fucking hate when you do that!” Seokjin yelled, throwing several pillows at Yoongi’s head.
He had stopped shrieking, opting to flop over on the couch and let out a long whine, steadily getting higher in pitch.
Smacking the ravenet repedialty on the back, Namjoon exclaimed, “Holy fuck, please shut up!”
“She’s trying to steal my man! But jokes on her, we’re hanging out after school Tuesday, so suck it!” He shot up and made an obscene gesture towards his crotch, triumphantly throwing his fists the air.
Neither Namjoon or Seokjin reacted how Yoongi wanted, but Namjoon let out a relieved sigh, “About fucking time, I don’t want to deal with you pining any longer or Hoseok barraging me with questions.”
As soon as he said this, Yoongi let out a squeal, “He asked about me?!”
Namjoon was regretting what he said, but slowly said, “Yeah. He wanted to know more about you.”
A huge grin spread across Yoongi’s face, and he grabbed a pillow, squeezing it against his chest while rolling around the couch. Seokjin and Namjoon watched with tired expressions.
Yoongi all but bounced into rehearsal, excited to see Hoseok and his sunny personality again. They had moved on past theatre games and icebreakers to vocal sessions where they started to learn the first group number, Iowa Stubborn. Last week when they started, it had not gone well, but Yoongi was sure that they’d do fine the next time.
When he entered the theater, Namjoon was there, chatting to Jimin, Taehyung, and a freshmen he didn’t know personally but recognized from tech crew. He had talked to Jimin and Taehyung once or twice before and found that the two sophomores they were amusing but rather hyper and obnoxious when they were together. However, Jimin was more shy and quiet when by himself, while Taehyung was just as loud without his best friend.
“Yoongi! Hi~” Taehyung shouted when he saw the ravenet, gesturing for him to come closer.
When he did, Jimin wrapped his arm around the brunet freshman’s shoulders, startling the poor kid, “This is Jeongguk. He’s in tech too, in costumes and makeup!”
Yoongi had quickly realized how physical theater kids are, as they’d take any change to touch each other that they could. The kid refused to make eye contact on Yoongi but mumbled a greeting nonetheless. He was a cute kid who seemed very intimidated, being surrounded by upperclassmen.
The silver haired sophomore smiled at Yoongi, chubby cheeks squishing up, “You ready to learn more of Iowa Stubborn? I hope it goes better than last rehearsal.”
“It’s all going to be fine, don’t worry, Jimbo!” Taehyung replied, pulling Jimin closer to him, making the silver haired teen burst out into giggles.
When Yoongi heard the familiar giggle of Hoseok coming from behind him, he quickly turned around to see the peach haired boy laughing along with none other than Veronica. As his hands balled into fists and his face scrunched up, Seokjin started to snicker at his friend’s misfortune.
“Oh my God, Yoongi, are you staring at Hobi?” laughed Taehyung, making Yoongi turn back around to face the others.
He replied cooly, “What’s it to you?”
Instead of being intimidated, the blond started to chuckle, giving Yoongi a knowing smile, “Just wondering. Hoseok talks about you alot. He’s really happy to be friends with you.”
Knowing that Hoseok was talking about him made Yoongi’s stomach feel all fluttery, and he was unable to stop the grin that started to spread across his face, “I really like being friends with him too.”
Their rehearsal passed by uneventfully, with the cast getting through the whole song. Yoongi wasn’t really needed much until they actually started blocking the numbers, but he had fun listening to the cast members singing. And he was totally not staring at Hoseok most of the time.
Soon enough, Tuesday rolled around, and Yoongi was bubbling with excitement, jumping out of his seventh period class as soon as the last bell rang and running towards the bike cages to meet up with his favorite ray of sunshine.
“Yoongi!” he turned to see the peach haired teen smiling sweetly at him, rolling his bike next to him as he walked closer to Yoongi.
“Hey. Ready to go?” Yoongi tried to keep the excitement he was feeling out of his voice to not scare Hoseok off.
With a nod, they were off, heading towards Plentea, a boba tea shop that was a popular stop after school for students. They chatted about their classes and any other topic that popped up as they walked. While Yoongi listened more then he talked, he soon realized that he loved to listen to Hoseok talk. The peach haired teen made the cutest expressions and waved his arms around excitedly whenever he was telling a story.
Once they arrived at Plentea and ordered their drinks, Yoongi getting a strawberry milk tea and Hoseok getting a Thai iced tea, they sat down at a table together, quickly getting into a conversation about their friends.
“I met Namjoon when we were freshmen. He was in run crew for the first time and he looked so confused! I kept trying to talk to him backstage but he was so shy, he’d only stick by Seokjin. But I eventually got him to talk more,” Hoseok laughed, thinking back to the years prior.
The ravenet snorted, “God, Namjoon was so shy back then. He was like that during middle school; if he wasn’t with me, his head was in a book. Luckily, Namjoon's gotten out of his shell by now.”
Their drinks were ready soon enough, and they continued their conversation.
“Then Taehyung actually said yes and tried to breakdance during the talent show. He ended up slipping and breaking his nose, and everyone lost it,” as Hoseok’s story came to a close, Yoongi burst out into laughter, imagining what had happened in his head.
Before either of them could say anything else, a face that Yoongi didn’t want to see showed up: Veronica Mathiesen. She smiled at Hoseok, sending a discreet glare towards Yoongi.
“Oh, Hoseok! I didn’t know that you’d be here,” she said in a flirty tone, making Yoongi’s blood boil.
However, Hoseok smiled back at the blonde, “Yeah, I’m hanging out with Yoongi here.”
Her blue eyes pierced through Yoongi’s soul, but instead of baking down, he glared right back, “Yup, we’re hanging out.”
Yoongi really didn’t like Veronica. She was snarky and rude, but people would just say that she’s sassy and strong willed, even though she was a bitch most of the time. However, she was rather popular in the theater world of his high school, so he had to be nice to her.
“Ah yes, our stage manager, right? Well, although I’m sure he’s a lot of fun to be around, wouldn’t you rather spend some time with me,” She said, smirking at Yoongi.
Although he wanted to slap the blonde, Yoongi couldn’t help but feel that maybe Hoseok would have more fun with Veronica than with him. Yoongi probably had no chance with Hoseok, anyways, as he didn’t know if the peach haired teen was even into guys. A heavy feeling of sadness settled upon Yoongi as he thought more and more.
His expression resembled that of a kicked puppy’s as Yoongi said in a small voice, “If you want to hang out with her, go ahead. I don’t want to hold you back from enjoying yourself.”
Nonetheless, Hoseok smiled that bright smile at Yoongi, before turning back to Veronica, “Sorry , but I want to hang out with Yoongi. I’ll see you later this week for rehearsal, though.”
With a huff and one last scowl at Yoongi, Veronica said her goodbye and left, Yoongi feeling as if a weight was taken off his shoulders. Yoongi’s prior sadness was replaced with a fuzzy feeling at his stomach, knowing that Hoseok actually wanted to be around him.
As Hoseok waved goodbye before hopping onto his bike and cycling away after the two were done hanging out, Yoongi smiled and waved back, feeling lighter than air and happier than he had before. He headed towards the nearest bus stop, taking out his phone as he waited.

Chapter Text
The next two weeks flew by, with the cast learning most of the songs and Yoongi busy with basketball practise. Luckily for him, rehearsal and practice never conflicted, as rehearsals were Mondays and Fridays while his basketball practices were Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sometimes, Hoseok would join Yoongi, Seokjin, and Namjoon for lunch, and Yoongi thought that those days were always better than any average day.
Saturday rolled around, and Yoongi and Namjoon were at Seokjin’s house two hours before Taehyung’s party was starting. He had a small but nice house, one floor, but it was cozy and homely, and enough for Seokjin and his parents. When Yoongi had shown up wearing a sweatshirt and baggy jeans, Seokjin had immediately said no and told him to change into other clothes.
“No son of mine is showing up to a party dressed like that,” his voice was full of disgust as he shoved a pile of clothes at the ravenet.
Once Yoongi had changed into his outfit (a pair of ripped jeans and a olive bomber jacket over a gray hoodie) , Seokjin forced him into a chair and started doing his hair, making sure it wasn’t a mess as usual. They chatted excitedly as he did the ravenet’s hair, Namjoon lounging on Seokjin’s bed.
“Fuck, Veronica is coming? Damn,” Yoongi let out a groan.
The pink haired teen shrugged, “It’s all cast members so of course she is. You’re gonna look smoking, so you shouldn’t worry about her.”
After Yoongi’s hair was styled, Seokjin somehow convinced him to put on some makeup, just some light eyeliner and lip gloss, before forcing Namjoon into the chair to get his hair styled and makeup done.
Once the three were done, they hopped into Seokjin’s car to drive to Taehyung’s house, and Yoongi was very excited to see Hoseok again. As they drove, Seokjin blasted showtunes, him and Yoongi screeching out the lyrics as Namjoon looked as if he wanted to throw himself out of the car. When Seokjin pulled up into Taehyung’s driveway, the party was already underway, music blasting and lights flashing. The three friends entered the house, Seokjin and Namjoon off to find something to drink and Yoongi on the hunt to find Hoseok.
Of course, as Hoseok had noticeable hair, Yoongi was able to spot him quickly in the mass of dancing teens, making a beeline towards the peach haired teen, who was laughing at something Taehyung was saying.
“
Hobi!” Yoongi shouted over the loud bass of the music, gaining the teens attention quickly.
“I’m glad you’re here, I was wondering when you were gonna show up,” he replied, giggling as he talked.
Taehyung gave Yoongi a knowing look, to which he stuck his tounge out in response, before saying, “I’m gonna go find Jeonggukkie, gotta make sure he doesn’t get too freaked out.”
With that, Taehyung disappeared into the mob of students, leaving Hoseok and Yoongi alone together, which was both blessing and a curse for the ravenet. As some kind of old school hip-hop song turned on, Hoseok gasped, grabbing Yoongi’s hand and dragging him into the crowd of dancing teens, screaming that the song was his jam.
When Hoseok started to dance, Yoongi’s brain froze, and all he could do was watch. He’d seen Hoseok dance during rehearsal as he, Taehyung, and another sophomore named Quinn liked to break out into dance at random times, but their dancing had been tame compared to what Hobi was doing now. His hips swayed back and forth tantalizingly as he danced to the music, toned thighs standing out to Yoongi.
“Earth to Yoongi! C’mon, you have to dance too,” Hoseok’s pouting brought Yoongi back to reality.
Yoongi felt his cheeks heat up in embarrassment at being caught staring at Hoseok, “I’ll try my best, but I’m not the best dancer around.”
The ravenet tried to sway along with Hoseok but constantly found himself distracted by the peach haired teen’s hips because damn those hips don’t lie. However, the song ended much too soon in
Yoongi’s opinion and the two made their way back to the sidelines.
“Y’know, you can dance pretty well, just saying,” giggled Hoseok, the compliment making Yoongi feel all warm inside.
He replied in a teasing tone, “You’re not too shabby yourself, but I’m sure I’m much better than you.”
While Hoseok giggled, Yoongi just watched, loving the way Hoseok clapped whenever he started to laugh, and although he was rather loud, Yoongi didn’t care. Their pleasant mood was ruined when Veronica
showed up out of nowhere, followed by another girl from the cast, Aisha.
“I’ve been looking all over for you, Hobi!” she said in her annoyingly sweet voice, making Yoongi irritated by using Hoseok’s nickname.
Why did she always have to show up when Yoongi was with Hoseok? Although she was annoying when he first met her, Veronica was getting on Yoongi’s nerves more and more by always trying to steal Hoseok from him.
“Were you now? It is pretty hard to find people in this crowd,” Hoseok was as friendly and welcoming as always.
The blonde sent a small smirk towards Yoongi before moving closer to Hoseok, putting a manicured hand on his shoulder, “So, what do you say we get out of here? Spend a little… alone time…”
Her question made Yoongi’s blood boil, as he knew exactly what she was insinuating. Instead of rolling over and letting Veronica do what she wants, Yoongi cleared his throat, gaining the blonde’s attention.
“I’m sorry, but Hoseok and I were having a conversation, so would you mind giving us some space?” although it was a question, Yoongi made it obvious that there was really only one answer.
Veronica looked surprised that Yoongi stood up to her, looking to Hoseok with a pitiful expression to try and save her. However, Hoseok smiled at Yoongi instead.
“Yeah, sorry Veronica. Not today, thanks for asking though.”
Yoongi’s heart swelled up with pride for Hoseok as he watched Veronica stomp away, Hoseok letting out a sigh of relief, “Thank you, Yoongi. She won’t leave me alone, and honestly, she’s stressing me out.”
Hearing this made Yoongi want to strangle the girl for causing his sunshine stress, but he repressed the urge and grinned at Hoseok, “Any time. You want to go find some sodas or something?”
After they had gotten their hands on a couple of cold sodas, Taehyung and Jimin appeared out of know where, each grabbing onto one of the two upperclassmen.
“C’mon, we’re playing truth or dare, and you can’t say no!!” Jimin exclaimed as they dragged the upperclassmen towards the circle of teens forming in Taehyung’s living room.
Namjoon and Seokjin were on the opposite side of the circle from Hoseok and Yoongi, holding hands and giggling so grossly. Seriously, did they have to canoodle all the time?
“Okay kiddos! Let’s start!” Taehyung shrieked, ignoring how Yoongi shouted that most of the people there were older than him.
The game started off lowkey, with lame dares like dancing weirdly or to chug sodas. Things started to escalate when poor Jeongguk had to sit in Jimin’s lap for the rest of the game, both teen’s cheeks heating up as everyone laughed at them.
“Elise, I dare you to do one of the guy’s makeup! And they can’t remove it for a few turns,” Jimin shouted when the brunette chose dare, making everyone start laughing.
Giggling, she replied, “But who should I pick?”
Both Jimin and Taehyung exchanged dangerous smiles, before the silver haired teen said innocently, “Why not Yoongi? He has pretty facial features.”
Before Yoongi could deny, the other students started to cheer, and when he saw Hoseok’s excited grin, he sighed in defeat, letting Elise pull him into the bathroom.
Ten minutes later the brunette dragged Yoongi out of the bathroom, showing him off to the other teens. Elise had put cat eye eyeliner, heavy mascara, eyeshadow, and bright red lipstick on Yoongi, who was not looking pleased. He resisted the urge to punch both Jimin and Taehyung as they both roared with laughter, Seokjin taking several photos of the ravenet, no doubt to use as blackmail later. However, when he saw how Hoseok was staring at him with wide eyes and brightly colored cheeks, Yoongi calmed down, unable to resist the urge to smile.
“Damn Yoongi! You look hot!” Seokjin yelled, gaining a glare from Namjoon.
Striking a pose, Yoongi puckered his lips and batted his eyelashes, “Uh huh! Listen boys. My first love story.”
Everyone burst into laughter again, Namjoon screeching, “Why would you quote Girls Generation?!”
A few turns later, Yoongi reluctantly removed most of his makeup, reluctantly as he could see Hoseok staring at him multiple times while he had it on. The game continued, getting more intense as time went on.
With a shit-eating grin, Taehyung asked once Hoseok chose truth, “What are your favorite things about Yoongi?”
Obviously Taehyung had to torture Yoongi further, as it seemed as if he and Jimin were working together to try and set him up with Hoseok, or just plain embarrass him in front of the peach haired teen.
Hoseok was quiet for a second, fidgeting around and playing with his fingers, blurting out, “Uhm. Well, I like how honest he is, and he’s funny. And he’s really good at basketball, like he’s so fast! Yoongi’s photos are really pretty and although he says he can’t dance, he’s actually good! And oh my gosh have you heard him play the piano?! So gorgeous!”
Hearing Hoseok blab on about how great he was made Yoongi’s cheeks burn pink and heartbeat speed up. The peach haired boy realized how much he had said and turned bright red.
“Hoseok has a crush on Yoongi~” Jimin sing-songed, earning a smack on the back of the head from Yoongi.
“Shut up, Jimin, don’t be an ass,” He scolded, making Jimin go quiet, but the silver haired teen still had a smirk on his face.
When Namjoon asked Yoongi, the ravenet chose dare, as he trusted Namjoon, unlike how he felt towards the 95 Liners.
“I dare you to kiss Hoseok!”
All trust Yoongi once had for the green haired teen went out the window, and he vowed to get revenge. He turned towards Hoseok, quickly placing a peck on one of his tanned cheeks before he could psyche himself out further.
Hoseok burst out into a fit of giggles, saying in a teasing tone“Really Yoongi, just on the cheek? Are you too scared to give me a real kiss?”
People were snickering now, and Yoongi could feel his face heat up.He had wanted to kiss Hoseok on the lips, but Yoongi didn’t want to make Hoseok uncomfortable. But since he now knew that Hoseok actually wanted to kiss him…
Reaching out, Yoongi cupped Hoseok’s face, fingers tracing his cheekbones, and pulled him closer, leaning forward and capturing Hoseok’s heart shaped lips in a kiss. He moved his lips against Hoseok’s as the peach haired teen immediately wrapped his arms around Yoongi’s waist, pulling him even closer and deepening the kiss, accidentally brushing their noses against each other.
Hoseok pulled back to catch his breath, but Yoongi grabbed front part of his shirt, smashing their lips back together, making Hoseok gasp in surprise. Using the opportunity, Yoongi snuck his tongue into Hoseok’s mouth, tasting a mix of fruity gum and orange fanta, sweet like Hoseok. A quiet moan that only yoongi could hear escaped Hoseok’s lips, making Yoongi’s breath hitch.
“Jesus Christ, get a room!” Namjoon’s outburst made the two teens quickly part, lips swollen and cheeks flushed.
Clearing his throat, Yoongi said, voice slightly raspy, “You’re the one who dared us to kiss, dumbass.”
Hoseok was refusing to make eye contact with Yoongi, his whole face painted dark red. A few minutes later, the game ended, as Taehyung claimed that no one would be able to top the “Yoonseok Make-Out Session.” The peach haired boy quickly disappeared, making a lame excuse before slipping into the crowd.
The rest of the party wasn’t nearly as fun as the truth or dare game, as Yoongi couldn’t find Hoseok. He felt guilty, as the kiss had gotten out of hand, but also felt exhilarated from the kiss. Of course, he had to deal with Taehyung and Jimin making kissy faces at him whenever he made eye contact with them. But Yoongi couldn’t be annoyed, as he finally was able to kiss Hoseok.

also I planned something to happen later on in this fic and the same exact thing just happened during our musical and ??? i'm physic???
Chapter 6: Are You a Stage Manager, because When You’re Around, Everything Makes Sense
Summary:
Doubt was starting to fill Yoongi, what if Hoseok really wasn't interested in him? At least he had matchmakers Namjoon and Seokjin on his side.
Notes:
Here comes the angst, or, well, the most angst I can write. Seriously, I'm so bad at writing angst.
Call Me Legato has reached 10k!!!! It's almost as long as Dude Looks Like a Lady, which is kinda sad bc this is half as many chapters... oops...

Chapter Text
Nothing felt right to Yoongi.
Not only was Hoseok not answering his texts (he didn’t even open them, how rude), but the peach haired teen was avoiding him at school and rehearsal. Whenever Yoongi would approach him during rehearsal, he’d say an excuse and run off, leaving Yoongi confused and hurt. He was sure at the time that Hoseok wanted to kiss him, Yoongi wouldn’t have kissed him if he wasn’t so sure. And Hoseok had kissed back, but Yoongi doubted himself and thought that maybe he read the signs wrong.
So Yoongi started to sulk, which annoyed Seokjin and Namjoon to no end, as when Yoongi sulks, he’s really fucking annoying. He lazes around his house listening to sad music for hours. Seokjin and Namjoon were fed up with him after a week, but Yoongi refused to open the door.

At their next rehearsal, they were already done with blocking all of the group numbers, and were going through each of the numbers and fixing the minutia. Hoseok was still avoiding Yoongi, but it was a bit easier, as they were going through Shipoopi and the peach haired teen was needed throughout the whole song.
Really, Yoongi didn’t mind, since Hoseok was singing most of the song and he was able to listen to hi voice and watch him dance and jump around the stage. However, his happy mood quickly feel, as Hoseok had to dance with Veronica. To make matters worse, Hoseok would chat happily with Veronica whenever they had a break instead of talking with Yoongi like he normally does.
Namjoon noticed Yoongi’s death stare at the blonde and walked over to him, “You look like you’re about to murder someone.”
“I am, if Veronica doesn’t get her claws off my man,” he hissed in response, folding his arms tightly against his chest.
Blinking a few times, Namjoon looked wary, “Damn, you’re pissy today. You went from being an emo to being an angry asshole.”
Yoongi didn’t want to admit it, but Namjoon was right. He was being really moody, but he had a good reason to be. Why would Hoseok want to spend time with a bitch like Veronica when he could hang out with Yoongi?
“Look, just go up and talk to him. I know Seokjin doesn’t want you to, but I can’t stand you being so pissy. You can start off with notes about the number, ‘cause you’re supposed to do that as stage manager, and then smoothly transition away,” Namjoon suggested, making Yoongi let out an “oh” sound and nod his head.
“Wow, that was actually a good idea,” he replied, walking towards Hoseok and ignoring Namjoon’s yell of indignation.
Before he got close enough for Hoseok to realize he was approaching him, as to not give him any chance of escaping, Yoongi shouted out, “Hoseok! I gotta talk to you about the Shipoopi number really quickly.”
The peach haired boy looked nervous as he nodded slightly, said goodbye to a glaring Veronica, and walked over to Yoongi, “Uhm, is something wrong with the number?”
“Nothing too major. The main thing is to make sure you push back against the teens who are trying to get into the gym, you stumbled a little last time. You’ve been doing a good job splitting center with Ethel while you sing the verses, so keep that up,” Yoongi looked down at the pad of paper on his hand, purposely calling Veronica by her character’s name.
Hoseok started to scoot away from Yoongi, ready to bolt at any second, “Is that all?”
“Not exactly, I just want to apologize for what happened at Taehyung’s party the other day. Things got… out of hand and I can tell that you’re uncomfortable with everything that happened. Can we just forget about it and go back to being friends?” Yoongi said hesitantly, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
“Uhm, yeah, I'd like to be friends again, too. But, I'm not gay… Hoseok’s expression was inscrutable, but his voice faltered before he repeated with a bit more force, “I'm not gay.”
Yoongi’s heart dropped, but he was grateful that Hoseok wanted to be his friend again. But a nagging thought in his head persisted: why had Hoseok kissed him back if he claimed he wasn't gay? It wasn't the time to ask this, however, so Yoongi smiled his usual gummy smile at Hoseok, noticing how the boy flinched slightly when he saw the ravenet’s smile.
“I'm glad, it would really suck to lose you as a friend,” he said, relief flooding his voice.
Before Yoongi could strike up a conversation with the peach haired teen, Mr. Rossi yelled for all the cast members to sit down center stage for some announcements. While Hoseok scurried off to sit with Taehyung and Jimin, Yoongi joined Namjoon and the director upstage in front of the cast members.
“Everyone, you're all doing fantastic! I couldn't ask for a better cast. Now, we're about a month away from opening night, so it's time to talk about the yearly musical retreat,” as Mr. Rossi finished, most of the upperclassmen cheered loudly, leading to Namjoon shushing them.
Then, Mr. Rossi started to explain the retreat for the students who had never gone before. The cast would go up out to a camp in the mountains during one of the school’s three day weekends. It wasn’t exactly a retreat, as the students did nothing but rehearse for the upcoming musical from the moment they woke up to the moment they went to sleep, but everyone looked forward to it nonetheless.
“I'll put some papers up in the greenroom for you all to sign up to be in a cabin,” Namjoon added, taking some papers out of his bag and gesturing for Yoongi to help him. The two exited the theatre to go into the greenroom, taping the papers onto the blackboard that covered one of the walls as Mr. Rossi took questions from the cast members.
“So, how’d your talk with Hoseok go?” Namjoon asked as they finished taping up the papers.
With a shrug, Yoongi replied, “We’re back to being friends… but he kept saying he wasn’t gay. No offence to Hobi, but making out with a guy is pretty fucking gay.”
“True, true. Hey, normally, Seokjin, Namjoon, Hobi, and I all sign up to be in the Scanlon Dos cabin, you in?” Namjoon quickly changed the subject, not wanting Yoongi to get all pissy again.
However, Yoongi perked up, “Sharing a cabin with Hobi? Of course I’d want to do that.”
They wrote down their names on the Scanlon Dos cabin list before the cast members flooded the greenroom. Hoseok and Seokjin made their way over to the other two, Seokjin beamed at Namjoon and wrapped his arm around the teen’s shoulders.
“Oh, man, this is my last retreat! I’m pumped but sad at the same time. Do you guys remember last year's retreat?” he said in a cheerful tone, making both Hoseok and Namjoon smile nostalgically.
Namjoon started to laugh, “God, the talent show was-”
Before the green haired teen could continue, Seokjin slapped his hand across his mouth, “Shh! We can’t talk about it, Yoongi’s never been before!”
“Oh my God, I almost forgot! Yoongs, you’re gonna have a blast!” Hoseok exclaimed, and although he used a nickname for Yoongi, his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes nor did his tone sound like it normally did when he was excited.
The four were quickly shoved out of the way by other cast members trying to sign up for a cabin, so they scooted towards the edge of the greenroom. Hoseok quickly said his goodbyes and disappeared, presumably to go talk to Taehyung and Jimin.
A long sigh escaped Yoongi’s lips, “He still hates me.”
“He’s not ignoring you anymore, at least. Give him some more time, he’s having a sexuality crisis because of you, y’know. The retreat is in two weeks, it’ll be a perfect opportunity to spend more time with him,” Seokjin said wisely, fondly ruffling Yoongi’s hair.
The next two weeks flew by, with rehearsal taking over most of Yoongi’s free time, and with Hoseok barely contacting him. However, the peach haired teen did talk to him sometimes during rehearsal, and just that little bit of interaction was enough for Yoongi. Not spending a lot time with Hoseok really put a damper on his mood, and Yoongi was especially moody on the day that the cast was driving up to the camp, as they had to meet up at six in the morning and Yoongi was not a morning person.
The ravenet sat by himself towards the back of the bus, as Seokjin and Namjoon were sitting together with the pink haired boy sleeping on Namjoon’s shoulder, earbuds in as he waited for the bus to start moving. Once he felt someone nudge his shoulder, Yoongi took out one earbud and looked up, meeting the amber eyes of Hoseok. Even though the peach haired boy had messy hair and was wearing a school logo sweater with Disney patterned pajama pants, he still looked stunning.
Hoseok grinned, gesturing to the empty bus seat next to Yoongi, “Is this seat taken?”
He could barely believe what he was hearing. Why would Hoseok want to sit next to him when he’d been avoiding the ravenet for such a long time?
“Uhm, no,” He shook his head, and the younger teen happily sat down, setting his bag by his feet.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, Yoongi not knowing what to say, as his mind went blank whenever he tried to come up with a conversation starter. He’d never had much trouble talking to Hoseok before Taehyung’s party, but Hoseok avoiding him made him really self-conscious about saying anything.
The bus filled up and was soon on it’s way, and the ravenet couldn’t help but sneak small glances at the attractive junior sitting next to him. When Yoongi looked over at Hoseok, accidentally making eye contact with the peach haired teen, who was already looking at him. While Hoseok’s face heated up, a smile spread across Yoongi’s face at his adorable expression.
They sat in mostly silence for the remainder of the hour and forty-five minute bus ride, as neither really tried to make conversation. When the bus parked at the campgrounds, Yoongi all but sprinted off the bus with his bags in tow, eager to get away from Hoseok as to not make even more of a fool of himself. As he grabbed his bags, he spotted Namjoon and Seokjin collecting their things and walked over to them.
“Hey Yoongs! How was the bus ride?” Seokjin asked, way too cheerful after such a long and early bus ride.
When the ravenet replied with a dismal look, his two friends burst into laughter at his suffering, Namjoon snickering, “I peeked at you two during the ride and you were sitting like statues! You were so close before the party.”
Yoongi’s expression got even darker, if it was possible, and Seokjin sent a glare towards his boyfriend before grabbing Yoongi’s shoulders and steering him towards the cabins, “Let’s go get settled, okay? We have an hour to unpack before breakfast..”
Hoseok was already at the cabin when Yoongi walked in with Namjoon and Seokjin, talking and laughing with Jimin and Taehyung, bags already on their bunks, with Jeongguk sitting on his own bunk reading a book. They were talking loudly about the upcoming talent show.
“Jimin, Taehyung, you know both Yoongi and Jeongguk haven’t…experienced... the talent show yet,” Seokjin chastised the two, who both a small smirk on their faces.
The blond snickered, “Yeah, but they’ve gotta participate so they haveta know!”
“They don’t have to if they are not comfortable with it,” Namjoon replied, taking his and Seokjin’s stuff and putting it on their shared bunk.
Yoongi realized that there were only four sets of bunk beds, so he’d have to share with either Jeongguk or Hoseok. However, Jeongguk had his bags on the lower bunk, so the only open bunk was the one above Hoseok’s. So he put his stuff on that bunk while listening to Seokjin bicker with the underclassmen about whether Jeongguk should participate or not.
Before Yoongi realized it, the conversation topic had moved to him, with Taehyung exclaiming, “I, personally, think Yoongi would be great as well!”
Hoseok turned from the two boys he was talking to to share a sneaky look with Taehyung, and then sent a smile in Yoongi’s direction, “Mhm. I’ve seen his dancing, and I’m sure he’ll fit right in.”
Although he had his suspicions about the dance, Yoongi knew he’d end up participating, as Hoseok wanted him to and he couldn’t say no to the peach haired boy.
Soon, Namjoon and Seokjin left the cabin to go check in with Mr. Rossi, and as soon as they left, Taehyung started yelling about how he was in charge and that the cabin was now his house. The boys all sat scattered around the cabin on the bunkbeds, chatting and giggling together. Yoongi felt happier than he had in weeks, as Hoseok was actually talking to him.
The topic of the talent show was brought up again, as the boys discussed what their section would perform this year, and, once the Scanlon Dos cabin was mentioned, the boys shared devilish grins while Yoongi and Jeongguk had a look of confusion across his face.
“How ‘bout I show you some of last year’s dance?” Taehyung asked with a sly grin, and Yoongi knew nothing good would come from a smile like that.
Before Taehyung could do anything, Hoseok stood up like a flash, an unreadable expression on his face, “No!”
Everyone went quiet when Hoseok yelled, staring at him with wide eyes. The peach haired boy’s cheeks heated up and he shuffled his feet together.
“I mean, I’ll do it. I’m a better dancer than you anyways,” he said quickly, cheeks flushed.
As Taehyung shouted in disagreement, Hoseok grabbed a chair from the corner of the room, grabbing Yoongi’s hand and dragging him over to the chair. As Hoseok pushed on Yoongi’s chest until the older boy was sitting, Jimin started playing music from his phone, plugged into a portable speaker.
Hoseok started a slow body roll, stepping closer and closer to Yoongi. The ravenet swallowed thickly, but was unable to tear his eyes away from the peach haired teen. It seemed as if Hoseok was just as flustered as Yoongi, tongue darting out to wet his top lip. Soon, Hoseok’s hands were on Yoongi’s shoulder and he was circling his hips, just above his lap, not quite giving him a real lap dance, but making Yoongi feel all hot inside nonetheless. He dragged his hand down Yoongi’s chest, although he was refusing to make eye contact. Poor Yoongi’s face was turning red quickly, and Jimin took mercy on him by turning off the music.
“I think he gets what the tradition is by now,” He snickered as Hoseok climbed off of Yoongi’s lap, scurrying to his bunk with a tomato red face.
The door to the cabin opened, and Seokjin stepped inside, took one look at the teens, and sighed deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose, “You assholes did last year’s dance, didn’t you?”
Poor Yoongi couldn’t respond, too shook by Hoseok’s dance. As the other teens broke out into giggles, Seokjin sighed for the umpeenth time.
“Jesus Christ, you guys are awful. Hurry your asses up and get down to the dining hall, it’s time for breakfast,” he said in a tired voice before leaving the cabin.
Before Yoongi could approach Hoseok, the peach haired teen bolted out the door. Yoongi smacked his palms against his cheeks, already dreading the rest of the retreat.
Notes:
The musical I was in closed last night, and man, I feel sad but relieved because the whole cast got sick. This is gonna sound sappy but the musical and cast really changed me for the better. They've inspired me so much and gotten me out of my shell. So if any of you are considering trying out for a production, seriously do it, even if you are nervous. Sorry for rambling, I'm just feeling post-show depression lmao
But now I can write more, well, if I don't get into the next theater event, that is.
Chapter 7: You’re Worth More Than Hamilton Tickets
Summary:
The musical retreat is underway, and things are not going well for Yoongi.
Notes:
shout out to my choir and theater class because they're always giving me stuff to write about as well as to Bubbagag02 bc I love their fic "No Rest of the Weary" and they read this fic so thank yooouuu!!

Chapter Text
As soon as Gabby, the choreographer, and Namjoon let the cast members take a break, they all collapsed onto the floor with loud groans. Yoongi let out a laugh, feeling a sense of schadenfreude while watching the exhausted cast members. It was the afternoon of their first day of the retreat, and everyone was already worn out. Gabby was cold-hearted, working on each of the numbers until the cast members were exhausted. Yoongi swore to never cross the choreographer, as although the older woman was nice, she was a no-nonsense kind of person.
From across the room, he could see Hoseok already asleep in a weird position: he was upside down with his ass against the wall and had his legs up in the air. A giggle escaped Yoongi’s lips and he moved closer to take a photo of the adorable peach haired teen, making it his homescreen.
He heard someone clear their throat from behind him and Yoongi turned around, face to face with a worried expression, “Yoongs, can I talk to you for a second?”
With a nod from Yoongi, the two of them exited the cabin that they were rehearsing in. He noticed his friend’s distraught expression and asked what was going on.
“Veronica didn’t show up. Mr. Rossi called her mom and she said that Veronica forgot and scheduled something more important, so she won’t be here until tomorrow afternoon,” he let out a sigh, rubbing his temples.
A disbelieving scoff escaped Yoongi’s lips, “What the fuck? I was wondering why I didn’t see her bitchy face today. She’s gonna miss a shit ton of rehearsals, how is she gonna catch up?”
“I don’t know, but her not being here is gonna fuck a lot of shit up. She’s not super important, but not having her here for the whole retreat is gonna make running the numbers difficult,” he sighed out, looking very stressed.
Huffing, Yoongi folded his arms, “So, what can we do?”
When Namjoon didn’t respond for a few seconds, Yoongi was able to divine that he was not going to like whatever Namjoon came up with, “Well, we need someone to read her lines and fill in her place for the dances, someone who knows most the lines and the dances…”
Yoongi knew exactly where Namjoon was going, “Fuck no, I’m not playing Ethel Toffelmier the fucking pianola Girl.” With a pleading expression, Namjoon begged, “Yoongi, you already know most her lines, and you have the gist of most the dances and blocking. I can’t act for shit, and you kinda can. Please?”
There were pros and cons of accepting filling in for Veronica. Pro: Dancing and interacting closely with Hoseok. Con: Dancing and interacting closely with Hoseok. He aso kinda owed it to the rest of the cast to fill in, as they’d have a less successful retreat without someone playing Ethel.
“Jesus Christ, you’re gonna have to buy me BBQ to make it up to me when we get back home,” Yoongi said in resignation, making Namjoon cheer.
“I think getting to spend extra time with Hobi is payment enough,” Namjoon received a swift kick to the knees from Yoongi after teasing him.
They went back into the cabin, where Gabby was waking the cast members up to go over the opening number. Once the teens were gathered into a group, Namjoon dragged Yoongi up in front of them, next to Gabby.
“Guys, so Veronica ditched our retreat and won’t be here ‘til later tomorrow,” several cast members booed or groaned, “but never fear, as Yoongi so graciously volunteered to fill in as Ethel Toffelmier!”
The cast burst into cheers and laughter, both grateful for having a replacement and amused by the fact that Yoongi was going to play a girl. Gracing him with a smile, Gabby yelled for the cast to get in position for the opening number, gesturing for Yoongi to stand offstage Veronica was supposed to be next to Camila, as their characters, Ethel and Alma, had a later entrance.
As they continued through the song, Yoongi did surprisingly well for never actually doing the choreography (well, he’d jokingly mocked Seokjin’s part in Ya Got Trouble before, but that really doesn’t count), getting through the opening number with only minor mistakes. They moved on to the next group number, Ya Got Trouble, and Yoongi had little to no trouble with the song, as the group numbers had little to no choreography. However, everything went downhill after lunch when Gabby decided to skip ahead to Shipoopi.
“For Christ's Sake, Hoseok, you actually have to put your arms around Yoongi’s hips or he’ll fall!!” the choreographer yelled as Hoseok let go of Yoongi too early during the simple lift that was a part of the dance.
As Yoongi stood up, he groaned and rubbed his ass, annoyed that Hoseok had dropped him for the umpteenth time. Every time Hoseok had to hold onto him during the dance, he’d let go almost as soon as he started, which resulted in Yoongi hitting the floor more commonly than not. If Yoongi had to hold onto him, Hoseok would shy away all most immediately.
Yoongi was starting to get very irritated with Hoseok’s sudden bipolar-like behavior. Like he had given the ravenet a lap dance only a few hours prior, and now Hoseok was shying away from him like a boy at a middle school dance. What made matters worse was that Hoseok was wearing a black tank top, showing off his toned arms, and Yoongi couldn’t even enjoy the view as he was getting hurt every other second.
The rest of the dancers in the number were either annoyed that Hoseok kept fucking up the number or were laughing at Hoseok’s behavior, but the only opinion that really mattered was Gabby’s, and boy oh boy was she pissed.
“You never had trouble with this when you were dancing with Veronica, why- wait,” a knowing grin spread across the woman’s face, “Let’s take a break so you and Yoongi can figure out your… issues...”
Hoseok’s face was red as he nodded, the rest of the actors in the number dispersing to take a breather and grab their water bottles. Gesturing for the two of them to head outside, Hoseok followed Yoongi out of the building, face flushing even deeper as some of the cast members catcalled and whistled at the pair.
“Okay, Hoseok,” Yoongi sighed out once the door closed behind them, “I thought we were good? If this because of what happened earlier at the cabin, we can just forget about-”
With a squeak, Hoseok interrupted Yoongi, “It’s not, it’s not! I’m just dealing with some… things… I swear they won’t get in the way of rehearsal.”
After taking a deep breath and looking down at his feet, Hoseok added in a whisper, so quiet that Yoongi almost missed it, “Besides, I don’t wanna forget about that…”
Yoongi’s own cheeks heated up at Hoseok’s added comment, but he turned around and opened the door as if he didn’t hear it. Luckily, Hoseok was able to somewhat get his act together, and didn’t drop Yoongi for the rest of the rehearsal. But whenever Yoongi felt the peach haired teen’s hands on his waist or they intertwined their hands, the skin where he had touched tingled in burned, not in a bad way. It was a struggle for the ravenet not to squeal whenever he had to hold onto Hoseok’s bare shoulder or arms.
By the end of the number, Yoongi was exhausted but disappointed that it was over so quickly. While the Shipoopi rehearsal was going on, the cast members not involved with the number were working on other parts of the play, and once it started to get dark, they all gathered in the dining hall for dinner. Taehyung , followed by Jimin, as the two were inseparable, and a hesitant Jeongguk, dragged Hoseok over to the table where Yoongi, Namjoon, and Seokjin were sitting, forcing him to sit down at the table.
“What a squad we are! Holy crap, we gotta make a group chat!!” Taehyung said way too loudly, grinning at everyone at the table.
Without waiting for any agreements from the other teens, Taehyung whipped out his phone, and, after stealing Hoseok’s phone to get all of the older teen’s contact information, and almost created a group chat before Seokjin told him he’d just add the younger teens to the chat they already had.
“Oh, we gotta put together our dance for the talent show tomorrow night!” Seokjin exclaimed a few seconds later, startling Namjoon enough to make him knock over his glass of water, spilling it all over his lap and the table.
While Jimin, Yoongi, and Taehyung laughed at Namjoon’s misery, Hoseok, Seokjin, and Jeongguk scrambled to grab napkins and paper towels to clean up the mess, Seokjin lightly smiling in amusement at his clumsy boyfriend. Once all the water was cleaned up, the teens quickly started to brainstorm their dance, although they spoke quietly to make sure the cast members at the tables nearby couldn’t overhear their plan.
Before they got very far, Hoseok brought up a good point, “We need a song before we start choreographing anything.”
The two started to have a very passionate discussion about the best song to body roll and grind to, which Jimin and Jeongguk quickly jumped into the conversation with their own opinions, leaving Yoongi groaning and smashing his head against the table, Jeongguk being as quiet and shy as always, and Seokjin quietly nodding along. Before long, some hip-hop song was chosen as the song they would use and the teens agreed to come up with their dance during their free time after dinner.
As soon as they were allowed to leave the dining hall, the teens hurried up the trail towards their cabin, closing the blinds and making sure the door was locked after they all got inside. Chaos ensued, with Hoseok and Jimin trying to out hoe each other, Taehyung screaming at Seokjin and Namjoon because the way they were flopping their limbs didn’t count as dancing in his book, and Yoongi and Jeongguk watching the scene unfold with tired, weary expressions, as if they had just returned from a thousand year war.
When Yoongi finally had enough with the mayhem in front of him, he used his best stage manager voice and bellowed, “Hey!”
Everyone froze in whatever position they were in, staring at Yoongi with wide eyes. Taking a deep breath, Yoongi quickly organized his thoughts.
“If we run around this cabin screaming, we’re never gonna get this shitty dance together. So, we’re gonna calm the fuck down, sit the fuck down, and start planning. Okay?” silently, the teens nodded and sat down in a circle, with Jeongguk squished between Jimin and Taehyung with flushed cheeks.
With Yoongi’s great leadership, the teens were able to quickly plan out the first part of their dance, where they’d start off with what seemed as a normal talent show act, with Yoongi teaching Namjoon how to play piano, but would quickly change into something very different. Although Yoongi had a hard time focusing with Hoseok dancing so sinfully in close proximity to him, but he solved his issue by refusing to look at the peach haired teen, consoling his inner fanboy by promising to watch Hoseok closer during the actual performance.
They got most the dance figured out before lights out, and knew they would have some more time tomorrow to perfect their performance. But as the teens got ready for bed, Yoongi couldn’t help but let his gaze linger on Hoseok, his tired brain bringing forth thoughts he had been suppressing, thoughts about whether or not he had any chance with Hoseok. Yoongi was still awake long after everyone else had fallen asleep, and with a quiet groan, sat up to look around the room at his friends with a fond smile crossing his features.
Over in the bunkbeds shoved against the far wall, Seokjin and Namjoon laid with their limbs tangled together, as Seokjin had snuck down into Namjoon’s bunk soon after the rest of them went to bed. They were really couple goals, no matter how grossly affectionate they were in public.
The three youngest were sprawled out on Jeongguk’s bunk, with Taehyung hanging half off the bed and Jeongguk laying with his head resting on Jimin’s shoulders. Really, Yoongi wasn’t sure what was going on between those three, whether it was Jeongguk with Taehyung, Taehyung with Jimin, or Jeongguk with Jimin, but at least Yoongi’s love life wasn’t as complicated as theirs.
And then there was Hoseok, who, for Yoongi to get a good look at him, the ravenet had to hang off the edge of his bunk, was sleeping peacefully, with his mouth hanging slightly open in the cutest expression Yoongi had ever seen. With his smile growing, Yoongi lied back down in his bed, closing his eyes.

Chapter Text
Everyone who knows Yoongi knows that he hates waking up early, so when Yoongi was woken up at the ass crack of dawn the next morning, Yoongi was about ready to fucking murder someone. But when he opened his eyes, Hoseok was inches away from his own face, making Yoongi’s heartbeat speed up from the close proximity. Without thinking straight, Yoongi leaned up and pecked the tip of Hoseok’s nose, making Hoseok’s face turn bright red as he scrambled backwards, nearly falling off the bunk bed. Hoseok screeched intelligibly before giving up and covering his face with his hands, making Yoongi laugh so hard that his sides hurt. Everyone else in the cabin started to laugh at Hoseok’s reaction.
“Sorry, Hobi, I couldn’t resist,” Yoongi said in a teasing tone, enjoying how embarrassed Hoseok was.
Incoherently mumbling some excuse, Hoseok quickly got off of Yoongi’s bunk and out of Yoongi’s eyesight, making Yoongi laugh even harder. Once the teens had gotten ready, they trekked down to the dining hall, where Yoongi was greeted with an unpleasant sight: Veronica. The bitch was back, and as soon as she saw Hoseok, she made a beeline towards him.
“Hoseokkie, hi!” She exclaimed, expecting Hoseok to smile back at her as per usual.
However, Hoseok’s brows furrowed and his lips pursed in his classic “No, Bitch” face, “Why the heck didn’t you show up yesterday, Veronica? You’re really lucky that Yoongi was able to fill in for you, or you would have ruined the rehearsal.”
The smile on the blonde’s face quickly melted as Hoseok put his hand on Yoongi’s upper arm and started to walk towards the buffet line, Yoongi sending a sly smirk in her direction.
When they rejoined their friends at one of the tables, Taehyung slapped Hoseok’s back and grinned, “Veronica’s face was priceless! I didn’t know you could be so savage!”
While rehearsal was going on after breakfast, Yoongi had some free time, as he didn’t have to replace Veronica anymore (though he’d love to do that again, even if he’d never say it out loud), so he decided to drop by where costumes crew was working. He peeked inside the room where the five teens, three girls, a dude, and Jeongguk, were sitting on the floor, hemming or sewing together some of the costumes. The girls were teasing Jeongguk about something, to which the brunet was denying with red cheeks.
“Yoongi! Come join us, we’re spilling the tea on all the theater kids,” the head of costumes, a senior with a head of red curls, named Aisha called out to Yoongi with a smirk on her face.
With a laugh, Yoongi sat between her and Jeongguk, ruffling the younger boy’s hair, “Tell me everything.”
One of the other girls, a petite ravenette sophomore named Rini, started to snicker and shoved Jeongguk’s shoulder playfully, “Well, we were just discussing who Jeongguk has a crush on!”
As Rini and the last costumes crew member, Matias, a junior with messy brown hair, started to giggle, while Jeongguk figeted, eyes trained on the skirt he was hemming while his cheeks slowly turned a dark red. Yoongi liked Jeongguk, he was a cute kid, who was pretty quiet and kept to himself around strangers, but was quite fun to be around when you got to know him.
“Rini and I think he likes Taehyung, but Aisha and Monna think that he likes Jimin. You’ve got to break the tie!” Matias exclaimed, shoving his shoulder against Jeongguk’s.
Ignoring Jeongguk’s pleading glare, Yoongi made a faux thinking expression, putting his hand under his chin, “Hmm, well, he does his little shy bunny face when he’s around both of them, which, is reasonable, as they’re both very excitable together and can scare people, ‘specially shy bunnies. So TDLR: fuck off, let the poor kid live in peace.”
As the costume crew burst out into cackles, Jeongguk giving Yoongi a small, grateful smile, bunny teeth on full display. Yoongi worked alongside the costumes crew for a while, until Monna kicked them out to go have a break. While Matias, Rini, and Aisha ran off to who knows where, Yoongi and Jeongguk chose to chill in their cabin, sitting beside each other on Jeongguk’s bunk, until the others got a break. “Hmm, so, Jeonggukkie, I have a hypothesis I wanna run by you,” Yoongi said in a sly tone, making the younger teen look up from his sketchbook with a confused, naive expression.
A smirk crossed Yoongi’s face, “I was thinkin’ a little bit about what Matias said… and a few memories popped up in my head. Remember when we hung out at Jimin’s, and you were showing Tae how to play Overwatch? You let him win you several times and pretending like he actually beat you, and you’ve never let people win, your competitiveness and pride make that impossible.”
He was sure that he hit the nail on the head when Jeongguk bowed his head to hide his expression from Yoongi. Instead, Yoongi tapped his chin and pulled a devilish expression.
“And I also remember when Tae needed a ride home and Jimin suggested them walking to his house together and spend the night, you jumped up and offered to have your mom drive him home. I could bring up soooo many occasions where you got jealous over Tae,” He said in a teasing tone, making the younger let out a loud groan.
While Yoongi cackled, Jeongguk said in defeat, “Fine, I have a crush on Tae!”
Jeongguk proceeded to attempt to fold into himself and hide as Yoongi triumphantly fist pumped. Once his celebration was over, Yoongi calmed down and patted Jeongguk’s back reassuringly. He felt kinda bad for teasing the younger teen, but Jeongguk’s reaction was just too amusing.
“Chill, I’m not a dick, your secret is safe with me,” he paused for a second, nudging the brunet’s side with his elbow, “But y’know, I think he has a crush on you too~”
This made Jeongguk have a mini seizure, his face turning an even darker shade of red, “He doesn’t. I mean, he’s a popular guy, ‘n like everyone knows him. Tae could probably date whoever he wants.”
“And what if he wants to date you?” Yoongi replied in a calm tone, a knowing smile on his face.
Luckily for Jeongguk, the cabin door slammed open and the other teens spilled into the room, so he was unable to answer the question. Hoseok and Taehyung were extra hyper, screeching intelligibly to everyone else, but somehow, they were able to understand each other.
“Show Yoongi, Hobi!” Taehyung exclaimed, shoving the peach haired boy towards the ravenet.
As he stumbled over, Yoongi noticed the bright pink plastic recorder in Hoseok hands, which the younger teen slowly raised towards his face. Instead of playing it with his mouth, Hosok placed the recorder under his nose, sharp, wobbly notes of “My Heart will Go On” escaping the recorder. Yoongi burst out into laughter at the absurd sight in front of him, letting out loud wheezes when his laughs were normally silent. Watching the peach haired boy made Yoongi realize he had a huge-ass crush on a ridiculous teen.
Their door opened again, interrupting Hoseok’s recorder solo, and a few other cast members entered the room, a few of the other male Korean cast members: Yugyeom Kim, Youngjae Choi, and Jinyoung Park. Yugyeom and Jeongguk were good friends, so when the brunet saw the other teen, he jumped up from his bunk to greet him excitedly, and Yoongi didn't miss the jealous look Taehyung sent in the ravenet’s direction.
“Sorry to drop in unannounced, but we had a good idea for the talent show!” Youngjae said with a bright smile, sitting on Taehyung’s bunk. Jinyoung quickly explained that they wanted to do a medley with some of the other male Korean cast members and they had done something similar last year. When the cast members in the cabin agreed, Namjoon, Yoongi, and Jeongguk were promptly kicked out as to not spoil the surprise, but Yoongi was tasked to gather the last two boys who agreed to be a part of the medley: Minhyuk an Hyungwon After completing his task, Yoongi reunited with Namjoon and Jeongguk, and they went off to find some of the other crew members to chill with.
Before Yoongi knew it, it was time for the talent show. The cast and crew were gathered in one of the biggest cabins, a piano sitting in the empty space front of them. Mr. Rossi brought up Mark Tuan, the head of props, and Jackson Wang, head of construction, to MC together, as the two of them were hilarious together and they were the MC for the last few years as well. They made sure each act smoothly transitioned to the next, throwing in jokes and references everyone knew to keep people paying attention.
“The next duo up is Seokjin and Hoseok!” Jackson exclaimed, everyone applauding as the two teens made their way up to the front, Seokjin’s ukulele in his hands.
“Hiya, everyone! I’m gonna teach Hoseok how to play the tune of ‘Over the Rainbow’,” the pink haired teen said once they were seated on the stage, passing the instrument to Hoseok.
Seokjin briefly explained what to do, and Hoseok failed his attempt to recreate the sound, huffing in frustration when he failed, “I don’t know, Jinnie, I don’t think I can do it. Maybe if you sing I’ll be better?”
“Good idea! Yugyeom, can you make a beat for us?” The younger teen quickly ran forward, holding a drum, and started to play a simple beat.
With a nod from Yugyeom, Seokjin sang part of the chorus, with Hoseok and Yugyeom harmonizing, and when Hoseok started to play, there were no mistakes. Some started to laugh, realizing they were punked and that Hoseok could obviously play. Before long Hoseok jumped in with “Where is the Love,” and the cast members started to snap along to the beat. Yugyeom changed the beat and Youngjae stood up from the crowd, walking onstage while transitioning the medley to “Soul Sister,” making the audience scream and cheer, laughing when he started to wiggling his arms in a dumb dance. Soon, Seokjin added in some piano to the medley and Taehyung lept up, nearly tripping on Jeongguk’s legs as he scrambled to get onstage singing “Not For Long,” gaining more cheers and squeals from the audience, as Taehyung was well known in the theater department.
Hyungwon stood up then, belting out “Count on Me” and bursting out into giggles halfway through when the guys onstage put their arms around each other’s shoulders while swaying. When Minhyuk entered next, all but screaming the lyrics to “All-Star” with the other boys screaming along, almost everyone was falling out of their seats with laughter at the old meme. Taehyung got everyone to clap along as the boys finished with harmonizing the “ooh” part of “Soul SIster” finishing with an attempt at harmonizing the word “tonight” which lead to them all laughing and stumbling onstage. Yoongi had tears in his eyes from laughing by the end of the medley, standing up to applaud with the rest of the cast, as the medley was a popular act in the talent show. The boys took their bows and jumped off stage to sit back down at their seats, and the talent show moved on. While Mark started to introduce someone a few acts later, Jackson snuck behind him to the laptop plugging into the sound system, playing a certain song and interrupting Mark.
While a confused Mark stammered into the mic, Taehyung and Jimin grabbed two chairs from the side of the cabin and dragged them in front of the stage, starting to slowly swing their hips back and forth. Hoseok jumped up, grabbing Yoongi and dragging him forward, followed by the rest of the teens. Their dance started off well, with the other cast members screeching when Jeongguk did an impressive handstand-turned-grind onto the floor or when Hoseok deadass started twerking.
However, the chair dance portion of the dance started and Yoongi shared a sneaky look with Jeongguk and Jimi, grabbing Hoseok and pushing him onto one of the chairs, when their plan was to have Namjoon sitting on one chair and Taehyung on the other, with Seokjin and Jimin giving them a faux lapdance respectively. A shriek came from his left, and Yoongi looked over to see Taehyung in a similar situation to Hoseok, with Jeongguk standing in front of the older teen with his hands on the blond’s shoulders.
His attention quickly went back to Hoseok, who was staring up at him with wide eyes and bright cheeks, and a sly smirk grew on Yoongi’s face at the view in front of him. Yoongi scooted forwards so he was straddling Hoseok, lazily throwing an arm over Hoseok’s shoulder as he slowly lowered himself towards Hoseok’s lap. As Yoongi tuned out the cast and crew members behind them, he could see Hoseok gulp and his breathing speed up. When Yoongi tried to shake his ass, he didn’t do it properly, and ended up just wiggling his hips and looking adorable instead of looking hot. Hoseok burst out into laughter at Yoongi’s little butt-wiggle, making Yoongi start giggling at the ridiculousness of them all. Giving up, Yoongi sunk onto Hoseok’s lap, letting his head drop onto his comfy shoulders. As Hoseok wrapped his arms around Yoongi’s waist, Yoongi watched Taehyung turn into a blushing mess with Jeongguk grinding down onto him. Yoongi was really disappointed when Jackson turned off the music and he had to get off of Hoseok, as the teen was warm and comfortable to sit on.
Soon enough, the cast and crew were heading back to their cabins, laughing and talking about the show. While Yoongi and Hoseok walked side by side, with their hands brushing against each other a few times, Namjoon was giving Jeongguk a piggyback ride back to their cabin to help the youngest avoid having to interact with Taehyung. The poor boy got too shy to even look at the blond after the dance, even though Taehyung kept trying to talk to him. Said blond was quietly talking to Jimin with a solemn expression, a similar expression mirrored on the silver haired teen’s face.
When Yoongi was woken up the next morning, this time by a giggling Seokjin pointing towards Jeongguk’s bunk, he looked over to see Taehyung laying with Jeongguk, the younger boy curled up against the blond’s chest with the older teen’s arms wrapped around him. After they took a shit ton of photos of the two, Namjoon woke them up, laughing them Jeongguk attempted to escape from Taehyung’s grip and failed.
A few hours later, the retreat was over and they were back at school, number dwindling as parents came to pick their children up. Hoseok was lingering after the rest of their friends had been picked up, and even though Yoongi could see his dad in their car in the parking lot, the chose to wait with Hoseok.
“You should go, Yoongs, my mom’s gonna be late.”
But the ravenet shook his head, smiling a little at the younger teen, “Nah. It’s fine.”
So the two waited, Yoongi texting his dad an excuse, for another few minutes until a beat up car pulled up, with a woman who had Hoseok’s cheekbones and nose behind the wheel.
“There’s my mom. See you, Yoongs!” Hoseok beamed at Yoongi before dashing over to his mother's car.
Yoongi could only wave in farewell, a fond smile on his lips

When Yoongi arrived at the green a few minutes late that Saturday, the cast and crew members were standing in a messy circle with shoes outlining the green and with Namjoon standing in the middle. Hoseok started to screech when he saw the ravenet approaching, telling him to take off his shoes.
“Hurry up, Yoongs! We’re starting!” his yell made Yoongi hurry over to the circle and throw his shoes off to the side, standing between the peach haired teen and Taehyung, who was bouncing excitedly on his heels.
The two of them were in athletic clothes and were barefoot, Hoseok wearing a tank top yet again, and they both had eye black on their faces. Similarly dressed were several other cast and crew members, with variants of face paint across their features
Clapping his hands together, Namjoon said in a dramatic tone, “My chosen few, it is time for our showly ritual of ABC Shakespeare-”
“This sounds like a cult,” Yoongi spoke up, enjoying Namjoon’s irritated expression.
This earned a smack on the head from Seokjin, who was on the other side of Hoseok, “It’s not a cult!”
I’ll explain the rules, hopefully no one else will interrupt,” With a glare sent towards Yoongi, Namjoon cleared his throat and continued, “ABC Shakespeare is like Sharks and Minnows on steroids. One person, normally the shortest, will be the shark first, and their goal is to shove the fishes out of the area marked by shoes. Once three people have gotten out, there is no out zone anymore and there is a different way to get out: the sharks must lift the person off the ground and yell out ‘ABC Shakespeare’ without them touching the floor.”
A smirk crossed Yoongi’s face, as he was fast and surprisingly athletic from basketball and knew he had a good shot at winning. Jimin was chosen to be the first shark, and the new cast and crew members seemed relieved, but everyone who had played ABC before started to groan. Although the silver haired sophomore was short, he was muscular and fit, and he was able to get people out pretty fast.
Everyone was amazed when Jimin headbutted Taehyung, making the lanky teen fall over, and the silver haired teen dragged the blond across the line before he could get up. Not to long after, Namjoon tripped, and Taehyung and Jimin were able to lift him with help from some of the other sharks. Still, Yoongi was doing well, running within a group of others as those running away from other people were easy targets.
However, things went downhill when Taehyung jumped onto Jeongguk’s back while he was dashing for the other side of the green, making the freshman grunt in surprise and fall forward. Shoving Taehyung off the brunet, Jimin and Namjoon started to lift the freshman off the ground, having trouble when Jeongguk started screeching and thrashing. But he stopped struggling when Taehyung latched onto his chest and helped lift him.
People started dropping left and right with Jeongguk helping out, and soon enough, Yoongi was the only one of his friends left, in fact, he was one of the last five. Seokjin and Namjoon started to target Yoongi, as they were absolute dicks, but Jimin and Taehyung shifted their attention to the other cast and crew members remaining.
When Yoongi and Jackson were the final two, Jeongguk was able to slow Yoongi down right before he reached the end, making the ravenet fall while on the other side of the green, Mark and Jinyoung grappled with Jackson. With a shout, Hoseok barreled over, grabbing Jeongguk’s midriff and yanking him backwards until the two had fallen. This gave Yoongi the advantage and he sprinted across the edge into the safe zone with Jeongguk screaming that he had cheated, just as a cry of “ABC Shakespeare” rang out with Jackson being lifted into the air.
Yoongi turned around, letting out a triumphant yell, and saw Hoseok running towards him, his excited screaming got closer and closer. Before he knew it, Yoongi was being lifted into the air and swung around in cirlced by Hoseok. With Hoseok laughing loudly, Yoongi screeched happily and clung to Hoseok’s shoulders as to not fall, Hoseok’s laughter like music to Yoongi’s ears. When Hoseok froze, still holding Yoongi up, they stared at each other with electricity racing between them, like they were in a romantic movie. It only lasted for a moment, as their friends had joined them, jostling them around and screaming.
Once Yoongi’s feet were back on the ground, a black rubber ducky with names written on blue tape was thrusted into his arms, and he was given a Sharpie and a piece of blue tape to add his name onto the duck. The crew and cast members cheered for Yoongi and his friends surrounded him, Hoseok clinging to his side, his gummy smile appearing on his face and affection flowing through his body, filling him with warmth.

“I hate this,” Yoongi grumbled as he slipped on the fifth dress in the last twenty-five minutes.
He would never admit it, but he didn’t mind the dresses themselves, but being forced to change into so many various period style clothing got really tiring. Plus, the costume crew members kept making him switch hats and shit to match each dress.
Jeongguk and Matias exchanged an exasperated look, and Monna gestured for Yoongi to take off the new dress. When Jeongguk was digging through a box of dresses, he let out a gasp, taking out a pretty light yellow dress, with elbow length flowy chiffon sleeves and a layered skirt. When Yoongi put it on, Monna and Rini started to cheer in excitement.
“It’s perfect! We just gotta hem it a little ’cause you’re so short,” Matias earned a kick to the shin from Yoongi from his comment on the ravenet’s height.
They found a floppy sun hat with a yellow ribbon that matched Yoongi’s dress a few minutes later, and, after taking photos of Yoongi in costume, sent him to makeup crew to deal with Jeongguk.
A senior named Astor was the head of makeup crew, and the tall blond had already picked out a wig for Yoongi: it was shoulder length with some bangs. When Astor put the wig on Yoongi, Jeongguk burst out into laughter and sent several snapchats of him to their friends. He calmed down and helped Astor with practising makeup on Yoongi to make him look more feminine. After about fifteen minutes, the two makeup crew members stepped back, Astor with a satisfied expression and Jeongguk stifling another bout of giggles.
When they let him look in the mirror, Yoongi’s jaw dropped at how pretty he looked. Sure, Yoongi was a pretty dude, but with the makeup crew’s expertise, he really looked like a girl. After praising their skills and before Jeongguk could take too many more photos, Yoongi wiped off the makeup, thanking Astor profusely and smacking Jeongguk upside the head for laughing so much.

With a cup of coffee, Yoongi entered the green room, where the cast members were already putting on their costumes and getting mics for cue to cue. When Namjoon saw him, he rushed over, wearing a headset and black clothing.
“You’re here, good. Go get your mic, the mic people are right outside the green room,” he said before Yoongi could greet him, taking his coffee and putting it down on one of the makeup counters, “You weren’t here when we went over which dressing room each costume would be, so yours is in the room to the left, with the other Pickalittle Ladies.”
Namjoon disappeared again, yelling something at the lights crew through his headset, and Yoongi headed over to get his mic. Once the mic pack was secured around his waist and the wires were taped against the back of his neck, Yoongi opened the door to the Pickalittle Ladies dressing room, the other girls greeted him warmly, some thanking him for taking over the role.
“Veronica is such a bitch, I’m glad she’s not in the production anymore,” the junior playing Mrs. Squires a tall brunet named Zoya, said while tying her hat underneath her chin.
The other Ladies voiced their agreements, Dalisay, the blonde senior playing Maud Dunlop chimed in, “She always bossed us around! I wanted to fight her half the time.”
Once Yoongi had gotten changed, he went to the makeup crew and got his wig put on, and went over to the principal character’s dressing room, where Seokjin, Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jimin were. Seokjin and Hoseok were wearing white dress shirts and plaid suit jackets in different colors, while Seokjin had a red bowtie, black dress pants, and a skimmer hat while Hoseok had a blue bowtie and beige dress pants. Jimin and Taehyung were wearing matching white dress shirts, blue pinstripe suit jackets, and light colored skimmer hats, but were wearing different color ties that looked suspiciously like Harry Potter ties.
“It’s Min Yoonji” Taehyung screeched, jumping forwards to latch onto the older teen.
Shoving Taehyung away, Yoongi scowled at the blond, “Stop with the Yoonji crap!’
Taehyung and Jimin ran off to go find Jeongguk, leaving Yoongi with Seokjin and Hoseok, the peach haired teen refusing to look at Yoongi, finding his tan dress shoes to be very interesting. However, Seokjin was admiring Yoongi’s dress, playing with the light fabric and making Yoongi spin to show it off. Why Hoseok was going back to being a shy little thing was confusing Yoongi, as he was acting normal during their rehearsals throughout tech week.
“Hobi, isn’t Yoongi adorable in this dress!” exclaimed Seokjin, shoving Hoseok’s shoulder repeatedly.
He looked up quickly, gaze training on Yoongi for only a few seconds before returning to his shoes. Repressing the sight threatening to escape his lips, Yoongi gave Seokjin a gummy smile, grabbing the sides of his dress and flapping it around.
When Yoongi’s feet were revealed when he twirled the fabric of the dress around, Seokjin all but screeched, “Holy crap, you’re wearing heels?!”
Pulling up the edge of his skirt to reveal black character shoes with a small heel, Yoongi grinned, “Yup, plus sheer tights. I’m that dedicated. They make my ass and thighs look great, even though you can’t see ‘em with this skirt.”
He could see Hoseok gulp and his posture tightened, but he still wouldn’t look up. It was if lightbulb appeared above Yoongi’s head, as he got an idea to finally grab Hoseok’s attention. With an arch expression, Yoongi pulled up his skirt and bunched it around his waist, showing off his lean legs and nice looking ass, covered by a pair of black spandex shorts. He even went so far as to shave his legs for the performance, that was how fucking dedicated he was.
As Seokjin started laughing his iconic squeaky laugh, Hoseok’s eyes snapped up to Yoongi, going wide as his mouth opened slightly. Dropping the skirt, Yoongi sent a sly smirk towards Hoseok, whose face was red as he mumbled an excuse.
“You should do that closing night,” Seokjin joked as he started to calm down.
A run crew member poked their head into the dressing room, announcing “places for the top of the show.” Repeating what he said with a thank you at the end, the three left the dressing room and followed the cast members out of the green room and to the wings.
Most of cue to cue went smoothly, although Yoongi’s mic stopped working for a good half hour and there were countless problems with the lighting. Like Mr. Rossi would have the actors pause, then make the lights crew change the lights to red, then yellow, then blue, then back to red in a cycle that would last ten minutes per scene at least. When their director tried to make the Pickalittle Ladies walk in a circle in the two feet between the main and the pit, Yoongi nearly lost it, as he was not planning to fall to his death that day.
As soon as they reached their lunch break, when they had barely started Wells Fargo Wagon, the number before intermission. After changing out of costume and grabbing their various sandwiches from tables set up outside, Yoongi met up with his friends, sitting at one of the lunch tables in the quad just outside of the theater. Taehyung had his head on Jeongguk’s lap and was complaining loudly while the younger teen nodded along and absentmindedly ran his finger through the teens’ blonde locks, Jimin gazing off into space and sleepily eating his food sitting next to them. On the other side of the table sat Seokjin and Namjoon, who were in a deep conversation about the play, Hoseok listening in.
Yoongi slid into the seat next to Hoseok, who flinched in surprise when Yoongi rested his head against the peach haired boy’s shoulder.
“I hate this. My feet hurt from the heels,” he whined, leaning closer to Hoseok and burying his head in the crook of his neck.
Surprisingly, Hoseok wrapped his arm around the older teen and started to rub Yoongi’s back reassuringly. Yoongi let out a little happy sigh and closed his eyes, but Hoseok must have noticed how Yoongi’s sandwich was sitting on the table uneaten.
Lightly petting Yoongi’s head, Hoseok said in a soothing tone, “Yoongs, you have to eat. We’re not gonna get a break for a while.”
With a groan, the ravenet sat up and quickly started shoving the sandwich into his mouth so he could rest on Hoseok again.
“I think Yoongi needs a drink, ‘cause he’s so thirsty,” Jimin said in a light, teasing tone, winking at the ravenet.
However, before Yoongi could go back to canoodling with Hoseok, their lunch break ended, and they were back to rehearsal. Yoongi was looking forward to dancing with Hoseok to Shipoopi, but Mr. Rossi chose to have the cast members speed through the rest of the numbers to make cue to cue go faster, so Yoongi didn’t even get a chance to so much as touch Hoseok through the rest of the rehearsal. To make matters worse, Hoseok left in his mother’s car as soon as they were dismissed.
As soon as the ending bell of last period rang, Yoongi was off to the theater, as the cast members had rehearsal from ten minutes after school ended until late into the night. It was exhausting to say the least, and several cast members got sick by the time open dress rolled around.
When Yoongi emerged in full costume and makeup from his dressing room, the green room was in chaos. Taehyung was screaming in fury and flapping his long limbs around, Jimin was trying to calm him down but had a face of panic as well, and everyone else was not having a good time. Yoongi soon found out that the quartet member who held up the melodies of most their songs was sick with pneumonia and was in the hospital.
“Why are all the cast members dropping like flies?” Namjoon sighed, rubbing his temples and swearing under his breath that he was going to grow grey hairs at that point.
An emergency production meeting with the crew heads was called, the teens gathering in one of the corners backstage to come up with a plan, as the local middle schoolers and their teachers would be watching the show that night and they didn’t want to disappoint them. Someone suggested they just sing as a trio, but they were quickly shot down, as the songs wouldn’t sound right without the melody. However, Astor silenced them all with a dainty raise of his finger.
Clearing his throat, he said in a hesitant tone, “I’ve heard Jeongguk sing all of the songs while we were working backstage, and he’s pretty damn good.”
“I’ve heard him sing too! And he’s around Alex’s size so he can replace him in the quartet!” Aisha piped in, a bright smile crossing her lips.
The freshman was their last hope, and the crew members quickly sent someone to bring the young brunet over to them. He approached them with wide eyes, nervously chewing on his bottom lip.
“I’ll do it, “ he said quietly, quickly being drowned out by the cheers of the crew heads.
Their celebration was cut short by Jeongguk being dragged off by his fellow costumes crew members to make sure the costume fit him, as the house would open in less than half an hour.
Yoongi let out a sigh, murmuring, “It won’t get any worse, right?”

Chapter 10: There Were Bells on the Hills, and I Never Heard Them Ringing ‘til There was You
Summary:
Closing night was approaching, and Yoongi realized that he would have no excuse to hang out with Hoseok after the show ends. Like hell he'd let that ray of sunshine leave his life.
Notes:
This is the end... *sobbing grossly* thank you all for hanging on for so long!
Well, you can't get rid of me that quickly, as I have two fics halfway finished and two that are being drafted, so stay tuned!!
Uhm also just a warning, there is mention of underage drinking, like hinted at but not outright stated. Just a warning.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Things got a lot worse during the open dress.
Almost everyone forgot a line at one point, and half of stage left got off tempo during the reprise of Ya Got Trouble. Things got worse as the band messed up as well, especially screwing up during the slap right after Marian the Librarian, smacking the wood block over five seconds after the actors had done the slap.
Everything went even further downhill during the scene just after intermission, when one of the run crew members tried to move the piano on stage by himself. Now, the piano was already dangerous just standing around, as it was unbalanced, but when the run crew member attempted to lift it, it fell over onto his hand, breaking one of his fingers.
Chaos ensued backstage, as the crew members had to transport the run crew member to the hospital while cleaning up the mess. Whispers of the show being cursed flew around the green room, people speculating that someone had uttered Macbeth while inside of the theater.
However, both Yoongi and Jeongguk did a good job for their first time performing in front of a crowd. They both only messed up one or two lines each, and their dancing was fine. Jeongguk’s singing was impressive, as his voice was perfect for the role, and the quartet got plenty of cheers. Surprisingly, Yoongi pulled off being a girl onstage very well, and when meeting some of the middle schoolers, found that they all thought he was actually a girl .
Nevertheless, the cast and crew were relieved when the open dress ended and they were able to go back to the safety of their homes.
“Fuck, have you seen my blue eyeshadow?”
“Where the hell is Camila? She hasn’t gotten her mic yet!”
Everyone was running around backstage and in the green room before opening night, trying to make sure everything would go okay. Yoongi stared at the mirror in his dressing room, nervously playing with the strands of his wig and rearrange his hat. The door opened, and Seokjin stepped in, smiling warmly at Yoongi.
“Hey, how are you?” he asked.
With a small sigh, Yoongi replied, “Nervous, but I’ll be fine.”
“It’s natural to have the jitters before your first opening night.”
The two started to chat for a bit, and after only a few minutes, the conversation topic ended up on Hoseok.
“Do you think he’s gonna still want to hang out with me after the musical is over?” Yoongi blurted out.
With wide eyes, Seokjin said incredulously, “Are you serious? Of course he will! Hoseok cares about you and genuinely likes being friends with you.”
Yoongi’s gummy smile appeared on his face, “I’m really glad. I love him- uhm, I love being around him.”
Giggling at Yoongi’s slip of the tongue, Seokjin patted Yoongi’s shoulders while the ravenet blushed and buried his head in his hands.
“Seriously, Yoongs my boy, when are you going to ask him out?”
Letting out a groan, he slumped over the makeup counter, “I really don’t know. I was thinking about asking him to prom…”
“YES!!” Seokjin all but screamed, making the ravenet flinch, “Oh my God, you should! Prom is in, what, three weeks?”
“Mhm. Promposals started this week so I’m getting stressed,” the ravenet sighed.
After thinking for a few seconds, Seokjin let out a screech, scaring Yoongi yet again, “I got it! You can do your promposal sometime during the musical! And make the sign musical themed, I know Hob’s favorite musical is Heathers.”
Before Yoongi could respond, several people started shouting some sort of chant in the green room, which grew by the second as people ran from their dressing rooms to follow the group of chanting cast and crew members outside. With a confused look, Yoongi asked about what was going on.
“It’s called Circle, it’s our pre-show ritual!” Seokjin said with an excited smile, grabbing his arm and dragging the ravenet outside with everyone else.
Once they were outside, Yoongi could understand what they were shouting, and when he spotted Hoseok in the circle, he hurried over and wedged his way next to him in the growing circle of students. After a few more chants of “Big circle, with everybody in it” and once everyone was gathered outside, everyone went quiet.
Namjoon started the pre-show ritual by clapping and starting a new chant, “Oh, I feel so good, like, I knew I would! Oh, I feel so good!”
Everyone joined in, screaming and jumping. Hoseok and Jimin were dancing as they shouted, making Yoongi giggle at how adorable they were. The ritual continued with pairs or groups of cast and crew members jumping into the center of the circle and yelling something along the lines of, “Like a pirate now!” The chant would shift to match whatever they yelled before going back to the original chant. Some would yell an inside joke, making everyone else laugh,
By the end of the pre-show ritual, Yoongi’s nerves were gone, replaced by adrenaline running through his system. The cast and crew got back into a circle, holding each other's hands, closing their eyes, and starting to hum, Yoongi pretending that his heart rate didn’t sped up when Hoseok’s hand grabbed onto his own.
They stepped closer and closer to the center of the circle and each other, hums growing in pitch as they got closer to the center. When they were in a tight clump, they all started screaming and screeching, ending with a round of claps and hugging each other, saying “good show.” It was a good way to get rid of tension before shows.
As soon as Yoongi stepped foot in the green room, Seokjin dragged him into his dressing room, eyes flashing mischievously.
“I have plan for your promposal!” he whispered, proceeding to briskly explain his idea to the other teen.
With a wide smile, Yoongi nodded excitedly, “That’s perfect!”
A few minutes later, they were gathered in the wings, listening to the last few bars of the overture being played, Yoongi bouncing nervously on his heels. He felt a hand on his shoulder as the curtains rose and the opening number, Rock Island, started ,turning around to see Hoseok.
Leaning closer to the older teen until his lips were centimeters away from his ears, Hoseok whispered with a reassuring tone, “Break a leg. You’re gonna be great.”
Yoongi smiled shakily back, too prideful to admit how nervous he was. The musical was the first time where Yoongi performed live in front of people, and the open dress really didn’t help to quell his nerves. But Hoseok’s encouraging words helping to pump him up, Yoongi felt slightly more comfortable. Rock Island whizzed by, and as the lights went dark and the actors onstage were exiting with the benches, he got into position with the other cast members for Iowa Stubborn.
Before he knew it, act one was over and it was time for the intermission. Everything went really well, thousands of times better than the open dress. Seokjin was smiling from ear to ear albeit looking tired, and Yoongi’s face hurt from smiling so much. However, Hoseok and Taehyung seemed even more energetic, running around the green room playing fighting with some weird hybrid game that was a mix between Star Wars and Avatar: the Last Airbender. Yoongi subtly filmed the entire event, internally squealing at how cute the two were.
The second act flew by even faster than the first act, if that was possible, and Yoong found himself running onstage, hand in hand with Hoseok, to take their final bows together. Hoseok smiled his heart-shaped smile as they joined everyone else after their bows, clapping and hollering as Seokjin came onstage.
Cheers and screams of joy filled the greenroom after the curtains closed, cast members congratulating each other for the successful show. Hoseok was glued to Yoongi’s side, clinging to his arm or wrapping his long limbs around the shorter teen. Yoongi wasn’t complaining, either, ignoring Seokjin’s teasing glances and Taehyung’s kissy faces whenever Hoseok was looking the other way.
“No one got sent to the emergency room, so I call this show a success!” Jimin said jokingly, receiving a few groans and several “too soon” comments.
The three youngest of their friend group plus Hoseok were extra hyper, screaming out lyrics of the songs and dancing. When Yoongi refused to dance along, Hoseok came from behind him and grabbed his arms, moving Yoongis’ arms around to make the ravenet, earning laughter from their friends.
Time went by very fast for the cast and crew members, and soon enough, it was the day of closing night. Although everyone was sad that the show was almost over, they could all agree that they were glad that they would finally get to rest. Yoongi was having a minor freak out a few minutes before it was time for circle, trying to make sure everything was going to go smoothly.
“You okay, Yoongs? You seem really tense,” Hoseok’s voice ripped Yoongi from his thoughts.
With an awkward laugh, Yoongi brushed off the question, “Yah, it’s just the fact that it’s closing night ‘n all.”
The peach haired teen obviously didn’t buy it, but nodded, and once they heard the beginning chants of circle, headed outside with the rest of the cast. After a few people had gone into the center, Yoongi took a deep breath and stepped in, followed by Jimin, Taehyung, and Jeongguk.
“Like you’re asking Hoseok to prom now!” He yelled, and everyone started screeching when Seokjin and Namjoon entered holding a prom sign and a bouquet of salmon colored roses.
The sign was a bright neon yellow, with a message written in glittery orange ink:
“You’re the most Beautiful boy and you understand the Me Inside of Me.
You Shine a Light in my life, and I was Meant to Be Yours, so prom?”
A loud gasp came from Hoseok as his tan hands flew to his mouth, staring at Yoongi and the sign in disbelief. Yoongi smiled sheepishly at the surprised teen and shuffled closer to him, nervousness evident on his face.
“So?” Yoongi’s voice was soft and tentative, as he wasn’t sure if Hoseok would reject him or not.
But the peach haired teen beamed, throwing himself at Yoongi and wrapping his arms around his neck, “Of course I’ll go to prom with you!”
As Yoongi’s smile grew and his arms wrapped around Hoseok, everyone started applauding and cheering, with Seokjin sobbing and blubbering about how his sons had grown up and Taehyung and Jimin screeching about how their ship had sailed. Hoseok pulled back from his and Yoongi’s hug, smile still on his face.
“Hey Yoongi?” he said quietly so only the ravenet could hear.
He hummed in response, and nearly screamed when Hoseok started leaning in closer to him, closing the distance between them by kissing Yoongi square on the lips. Everyone was screaming again and every nerve in Yoongi’s body felt like it was on fire.
After Hoseok ended the kiss, he beamed at Yoongi, “That’s my way of saying that I like you.”
Yoongi’s heart nearly leapt out his chest as he stammered out a, “I like you too- like a lot.”
Giggling, Hoseok nuzzled his head into the crook of Yoongi’s neck, but their moment was ruined when someone yelled from the green room door, “Sorry to spoil the moment, bu the house just opened!” Yoongi found himself with Hoseok whenever they were backstage or performing, either sitting with Hoseok on one of the couches in the green room with their arms wrapped around each other or standing in the wings with their fingers intertwined. They didn’t get any time alone so Yoongi couldn't’ really DTR, but he was content with just being with Hoseok. In time, they were running onstage for their final bows, and, after they bowed, instead of backing up into their positions, Hoseok spun Yoongi, dipping the ravenet and kissing him. The audience went nuts, and as they parted and hurried over to their spot, Hoseok grinned mischievously at Yoongi, sticking out his tongue briefly at the ravenet.
Once closing night was over, as tradition, the entire cast and crew headed over to In-n-Out, which was just down the street from their school. Hoseok held onto Yoongi’s arm the entire time. Once everyone was outside, yelling excitedly and eating their food, Hoseok tugged on Yoongi’s arm, gesturing with his head for them to step away from everyone else behind the In-n-Out. As the two walked away, Jimin wolf whistled, and Taehyung yelled for them to use protection. Yoongi swore to beat up the blond for that later, but had more pressing matters in front of him.
Even in the crappy lighting and his tired features, Hoseok looked ethereal, leaning against the walls of the restaurant.
“Yoongi-”
Before Hoseok cold finish Yoongi interrupted him, Yoongi sputtered out, “Be my boyfriend?”
The younger teen’s eyes went wide, but he recovered and let out a laugh, “You beat me to the punch, Yoongs! I was going to ask you the same thing.”
“So… that’s a yes?” A relieved smile crossed the ravenet’s features.
“‘Course it is, ya dingus,” he replied, reaching out to take Yoongi’s hands in his own.
Yoongi’s smile grew, showing his pink gums, and Hoseok squealed, grabbing Yoongi’s cheeks and pinching them, “I love your smile. You look like a little cat!”
While Hoseok laughed, Yoongi swatted away his hands weakly, smile never leaving his face. However, the innocent, giggly air around them changed when Hoseok’s thumb brushed across Yoongi’s upper lip, making the ravenet’s breath hitch. The peach haired teen noticed and his lips curled into a smirk as he wrapped his arms around Yoongi’s neck and pulling the shorter teen closer until their noses were brushing against each other. His hands traveled down Yoongi’s chest as he started to press kisses down the ravenet’s pale cheeks and neck.
“Hoseok, you tease,” Yoongi’s voice had no bite or venom to it. With a small cuckle, Hoseok rose his head to make eye contact with Yoongi, his heart-shaped lips tinted a darker shade of pink from all the times he had kissed Yoongi’s skin. Yoongi’s breath hitched in his chest from how gorgeous the teen in front of him was, and couldn’t help but press the younger teen’s lithe body against the wall of the fast food restaurant and capture those pink lips with his own.
Cupping Hoseok’s face with his hands, Yoongi kissed him, gently at first, but growing with intensity that made Hoseok wrap his arms around the shorter boy and grasp him tightly, as to not let his knees buckle or his body hit the ground. But Hoseok was kissing back just as fiercely, hand bunching the back of the fabric of Yoongi’s hoodie. When Yoongi pulled back to get a gulp of air, Hoseok grabbed the front of the ravenet’s hood and smashed their lips back together, making Yoongi let out a little moan.
“Oh man, holy shit! Jimin, you owe me ten bucks!” Jeongguk’s screech made the two part quickly, Hoseok burying his head in Yoongi’s chest and groaning in embarrassment.
“Jeon Jeongguk, you little shit!” As Yoongi attempted to chase after the young teen, Hoseok broke out into giggles, holding the ravenet back.
Running his hands through Yoongi’s dark locks, Hoseok pressed a chaste kiss to Yoongi’s cheek and took ahold of his hand before they started their walk of shame back to where the rest of the cast and crew were sitting. Several catcalls and whistles came from the cast and crew, but Hoseok laughed them off, leading Yoongi to the table where their friends were and sitting down.
Shit-eating grins were present on both Taehyung and Jeongguk’s face, while Jimin was pouting, “You guys made me lose ten bucks.”
“Did you bet on whether or not we were kissing?” sighed Yoongi, rubbing his temples.
The three burst into a bout of giggles, and while Yoongi sighed again, Hoseok laughed along, squeezing Yoongi’s hand under the table.
After another half-hour of hanging out, the cast and crew members started to disperse, heading back home. Yoongi was taking the bus back home, so he chose to wait for Hoseok to get picked up. They chatted for a bit, Hoseok clasping their fingers together or absentmindedly playing with Yoongi’s hair.
“You have an older sister, right?” Yoongi asked, making Hoseok smile.
Nodding, Hoseok responded, “Yup! She’s in her second year college studying fashion design. Do you have any siblings?”
“Yup, an older brother who’s in his last year of college, in pre-med. We’re not super close, but I still care about him.”
They spent some time talking about their families, Hoseok talking the most about how he loved his parents and his sister. The peach haired teen had the cutest expression when talking about his family, which both made Yoongi happy and sad, as he wasn’t nearly as close to his dad or brother as Hoseok was to his family.
However, when a kinda shabby looking green car pulled into the parking lot, Hoseok immediately scooted away from Yoongi, making Yoongi look at him with a confused look.
“I’ll explain later. See you later, Yoongs!” Hoseok aid quickly before hurrying over to the car.

PEACHY BUTT: if mom says so we all gotta do it
It was surprisingly easy for Yoongi to convince his dad to let him go to the cast party, even after telling him about Hoseok, so, just as Taehyung requested, he knocked on the blond’s door half an hour before nine thirty. Taehyung opened the door and dragged the ravenet inside, where Seokjin, Namjoon, and Jeongguk were already sitting up.
“This is gonna be lit!” Taehyung screeched, running to Jeongguk and squeezing the brunet from behind.
With a sigh, Namjoon said, “Stop saying lit for Christ’s Sake, Tae.”
A few minutes later Jimin showed up, and they got to work at setting up for the cast party. However, when it was nearly time for the party and Hoseok still wasn’t at Taehyung’s house, Yoongi started to get worried.
“Has anyone heard from Hobi?” he asked as he finished putting out an array of snacks.
Taehyung took out his phone, making a face, “Oh, he texted me like ten minutes ago. He said he had trouble convincing his mom to let him come, but he’s gonna be here soon.”
Indeed, Hoseok was knocking on the door soon after, sheepish smile on his face, “Sorry for being late.”
The peach haired teen made a beeline over to Yoongi, wrapping his arms around the shorter teen and resting his head on Yoongi’s shoulder. They didn’t have much time to canoodle, as the cast and crew started to show up.
Soon after, the music was blasting and the teens were chatting around the edges of Taehyung’s living room or dancing towards the center. Hoseok was attached to Yoongi, whether they were talking with other people or dancing. And boy oh boy, Yoongi was shook by Hoseok’s dance moves yet again.
While they were standing outside on Taehyung’s porch, Hoseok shoving some pretzels into his mouth, Yoongi brought up what had happened at In n Out.
The peach haired teen looked away, playing with his hands, “My parents… don’t know that I’m with you. They’re very religious, so I’m not sure how they’re gonna take it.”
“It’s okay. You don’t have to tell them anything until you’re ready,” Hoseok beamed at this and intertwined their hands yet again.
“I’m really glad that I’m with you, Yoongi. Y’know, I thought I was straight until I met you.”
A smile appeared on Yoongi’s face, “I’ve been gay for as long as I remember, but I was smitten with you the moment I saw you.”
“You’re so cheesy,” Hoseok giggled.
The party went well, with only a few kids throwing up or doing dumb things. Really, Yoongi wasn’t expecting much from the cast party, as prom would be the highlight of his year.
After school one day, Hoseok and Yoongi went to the mall closest to their school to pick out tuxedos, and the only reason that Hoseok was able to go was that he told his parents that he was at dance practice. They spent about an hour trying on different suits and tuxedos, eventually finding a good pair. Both had black suit jackets and pants, and white button downs, but Yoongi had a light blue tie and vest, while Hoseok’s was light green.
About ten minutes before he and his dad were to pick up Hoseok to go to prom, Yoongi was having a mini crisis. His hair and makeup were fine, but he was panicking over the small details of the night. As Hoseok’s parents had no idea that Hoseok and Yoongi were together, Hoseok told his parents that he and Elise, the girl who played the female lead of the musical, were going to prom together. He would get dropped off at Elise’s house, as she was in on the plan as well, and Yoongi and his dad would pick up the peach haired teen there.
Yoongi was freaking out because anything could go wrong with their plan, but also because prom was such a huge deal and he didn’t want to mess anything up between him and Hoseok. Taking a deep breath, Yoongi looked into his mirror one last time, fixing his hair before heading out the door.
His dad saw how much he was squirming from his reflection in the mirror as they drove towards Elise’s house, saying with a reassuring tone, “Everything’s going to be fine, Yoongi. This is going to be a memorable night.”
“I know it’s gonna be great, but I’m just nervous,” he replied in a small voice, staring down at his fidgeting hands.
“Well, take a deep breath, okay? And remember, use prot-”
Yoongi started to screech, “Dad, no, stop!”
As soon as they pulled up in front of Elise’s house, Hoseok stepped out the door, looking gorgeous, as always, with his hair parted and makeup accentuating his features. He waved goodbye to Elise, who was standing in the doorway, and walked over to the car, opening the door and sliding into the seat next to Yoongi.
“Hey,” he said, beaming at Yoongi, “You look great.”
A bashful smile crossed Yoongi’s face, “Thanks. You look amazing, even though you always do.”
Hoseok laughed, reaching over to hold Yoongi’s hand before smiling at his dad through the mirror, “Sorry for all the trouble, Mr. Min.”
“Don’t worry about it, Hoseok. I’m glad to help.”
Soon enough, they were stepping into their school’s gym, where prom had just started. After taking some classic prom photos, they walked towards the snack table to meet up with Seokjin and Namjoon. Jimin, Taehyung, and Jeongguk could not go as they were sophomores and freshmen, but that was good for their older friends so the younger teens couldn’t create any trouble.
They quickly spotted the other teens, who were wearing matching gray tuxedos with pink and black bowties respectively. The four chatted for a bit before hitting the dance floor to slow dance with their dates.
Hoseok smiled sweetly at Yoongi and wrapped his arms around his waist, Yoongi reaching up to rest his on the taller boy’s shoulders. As they swayed back and forth to the music, Yoongi leaned forward to rest his head on the peach haired teen’s chest.
“Thank you, Yoongi,” Hoseok murmured softly, Yoongi nearly missing it.
Lifting his head to look at Hoseok’s face, Yoongi responded, “For what?”
“You’ve really made these last few months special. Crossdressing included,” Yoongi lightly smacked Hoseok’s chest at this, making the peach haired teen giggle.
“Well, you’ve done the same for me. Seriously, you don’t understand how thirsty I was for your ass,” his tone was dead serious by the end of his sentence.
Before Hoseok could respond, Yoongi continued, “I wouldn’t stop talking about how I wanted to suck your dick in the group chat I have with Joon and Jin. They got so pissed.”
Hoseok’s face heated up at the comment, Yoongi smirking at his reaction. They swayed quietly for a few more seconds, before Yoongi broke the silence.
“I was kinda worried that you wouldn’t want to hang out with me since the musical is over, but, you will, right? I mean, I should already-” his rambling was stopped by Hoseok pressing a quick kiss to his lips.
“Even if you hadn't asked me, you couldn’t pay me to stay away from you,” Hoseok let out a small laugh, “Besides, we have another show before school ends, and I’m pretty sure Mr. Rossi is gonna ask you to stage manage that as well.”
Letting out a faux groan, Yoongi said teasingly, “As long as I don’t have to perform in a dress again.”
The two laughed, enjoying each other’s presence. Thinking back on the last few months, Yoongi felt a warm feeling spreading throughout his chest. So much had happened to Yoongi, making his senior year way more exciting than previous years.
Looking at Hoseok’s smile, Yoongi knew that he wouldn’t change anything for the world.
