“Try to wake up earlier so you can get his food and diapers while he watches the morning cartoons.”
“Can’t promise anything but I’ll try.”
“Aish Min Yoongi… you have to feed him at 1PM on the dot or he’ll get cranky.”
“Okay.”
“Also don’t forget to feed him at 4.”
“You already told me that babe.”
“No, I said to feed him at 1, but you also have to feed him at 4, listen to what I’m saying.”
“Okay babe, whatever you say.”
“And then you have to make him play, alright? Because he needs to lose some energy and-“
“Jinnie I already know that,” Yoongi says with a soft, sleepy smile on his face, laying in the middle of the bed curled up against Jungkook’s sleeping body. The room is still dark as it’s too early for the sun to come out. The TV is on though, showing some re-runs of last night’s news. Jin’s face is lit by the blueish tint of the screen.
“Don’t get cheeky with me,” Jin mumbles with a cute pout, the combination of his short bangs and bright yellow hoodie make him look even cuter “this is the first time that I leave him alone.”
“He’s not alone, he’s with me,” Yoongi whispers, reminding his husband of what should be obvious “his other father.”
“I know, but this is the first time that he’s not with his favorite father,” Yoongi would say something and fight the statement, but the way Seokjin looks down at their youngest son and caresses his black hair softly is enough to shut him up, he has such a sad expression on his face Yoongi almost wants to tell him not to go, but Seokjin already told his parents that he’d take the kids to the farm and Jungkook has too many allergies to go and enjoy himself, it would make the toddler miserable.
“Babe, go, we’re going to be fine,” Jin looks up, staring into his husband’s eyes and searching for something before nodding “just go and have fun.”
“You forget my parents are going to be there,” Seokjin rolls his eyes and sighs “I’m taking the dogs too.”
“Holly too?” Yoongi whispers with heartbreak tinting his voice.
“You wont let me be sad about me leaving our child and you’re about to cry because of a dog?!” Seokjin whisper-shouts, voice squeaky and words coming out fast because of his annoyance. Both of them quiet down when Jungkook stirs, smacking his lips and stretching before staying still again.
“Shush, you’re going to wake the baby up,” Yoongi warns “go have fun babe, don’t worry about us.”
“Okay, I’ll go, we’ll be back tomorrow okay?” Yoongi nods and lets Seokjin lean over to press a kiss to his lips “I love you.”
“Drive safely, take care of Holly, I love you too,” he calls out, and then he hears Hoseok’s muffled screams of excitement, Taehyung and Namjoon grumbling out some complains and then Seokjin’s loud huff as he carries Jimin and the bags to the car. Yoongi looks down again at Jungkook, who sleeps all sprawled on the bed like it’s his own. The two-year-old looks adorable in his purple pajama set and with his soft black hair fanned out against the white bedsheets, he looks like a little angel.
Inching a little closer but also maintaining enough distance so he wont wake up his baby Yoongi gets ready to sleep again, figuring that he might as well if the day is going to be as hectic as Seokjin painted it to be. As he drifts off to sleep he has a brief thought that he should’ve set the alarm, but he shrugs and continues to nod off.
A little boop on the nose is what wakes him up an hour later. He opens his eyes to see Jungkook, kneeling on the bed with pouty lips and watery eyes. Yoongi’s heart swells as he opens his arms for his son to crawl into them but Jungkook doesnt budge, sitting back on his legs and looking around.
“Papa,” he whines, voice a little scratchy from sleep so he probably hasn’t been awake for too long.
“He went to Grandma’s farm baby but he’ll come back tomorrow okay?” Yoongi tries to explain, at hearing this Jungkook scrunches up his face and starts wailing, which immediately finishes waking Yoongi up.
He picks the toddler up, huffing a little under his weight, and starts bouncing him up and down. As he does this he fishes out the remote control from the bedsheets, turning on the TV and changing the channels until he finds one with cartoons.
“Look baby! It’s Pororo!” Yoongi exclaims, fake excitement blatant on his voice.
“Pololo?” Jungkook immediately stops crying and turns to look at the TV, falling into trance as he looks at the little penguin trying to solve minor conflicts with his friends. As the boy is entertained Yoongi feels his diaper and chalks up Jungkook’s irritability to it being dirty and his tummy being empty. Jin was right, he should’ve woken up earlier than the kid.
“Baby can I put you down?” Jungkook starts whining when Yoongi puts him down and Yoongi throws his head back, trying to figure out what to do to keep distracting Jungkook and also have time to go to the baby’s room and downstairs. He searches for his phone, looking up a random Pororo episode before handing it to Jungkook and hoping the kid won’t throw it down the stairs.
Back at the kid’s room he checks if the kid has been sweating at night, figuring it would be better to shower him early if so but he finds his back completely dry and moves onto changing his diaper. As he does so Jungkook babbles away at the characters on the screen of his phone, holding the device with his chubby hands and giggling when Yoongi pokes at the softness of his legs.
“You’re a little piggy aren’t you? Is Papa feeding you too much?” Yoongi coos, feeling himself smile at how cute his son is. Jungkook directs his big doe eyes to him in curiosity before returning his attention to the screen. The father looks around of the bottom half of the pajamas, before figuring that it would be better to his change Jungkook into fresh clothes.
A a black shirt and some dark overalls later Jungkook is all set and looking like Yoongi’s rightful son. Usually Seokjin avoids dressing the kids in dark clothes, preferring to use bright colors that match their bright personalities (also to match his own color scheme, which leaves Yoongi to look like an overgrown emo teenager running around with the Teletubbies.
There’s three food schedules taped to the fridge, each of them with different meals that the kids will be having during the week. Yoongi takes a look at Jungkook’s before following the instructions to make the kid cinnamon-apple oatmeal. As the oatmeal begins preparing he frowns at the foods for the rest of the day, trying to figure out what will be easy for him to cook and what he will have to call Seokjin for.
He opens the fridge in search of apples and finds a tupperware container with a bright pink sticky note on it. Yoongi laughs at his husband for knowing him too well. ‘Here’s the kim bap for lunch!’ it reads, and sure enough in the glass tupperware Yoongi finds the dish already pre-made, the man sets out some left overs from yesterday’s dinner and begins to warm them up in the microwave before plating the oatmeal and the apples and bringing them to Jungkook, who eats a little distractedly as he focuses all of his attention in the show.
“Kookie do you want to go to the park later today?” at the mention of the park Jungkook snaps his head towards his father, nodding a little enthusiastically. Yoongi figures that he can let the baby watch some TV in the morning, play around for some while before his nap and then take him to the park after noon so he can get tired out and sleep throughout the night.
“Is Pororo fun?” Yoongi asks as he spoons oatmeal on Jungkook’s mouth, the boy puffs his cheeks and nods again, looking at Yoongi with those cute wide eyes, he looks like a hamster.
“Looks like Joonie!” Jungkook answers, making Yoongi almost cry at how cute he is, last winter Namjoon was obsessed with a hat that looked like Pororo’s and his big, round lips kind of looked like a beak, since then Jungkook has sworn that his brother looks exactly like the cartoon.
“Yes baby Pororo looks like Joonie,” Yoongi answers in that fake-bubbly voice he’s been using ever since Hoseok was born. Seokjin is much better at it than him. The episode ends and Jungkook hums the song again, munching on the apple bits and bouncing his head from left to right along with the music.
“One more kiddo,” Yoongi says, waiting for Jungkook to open his mouth again as he scoops the last bits of oatmeal. Jung kook opens his mouth, yelling ‘ah!’ and then chews on the food happily. It makes Yoongi happy to see that his son is in such a good mood despite Seokjin not being there. He usually doesnt get to spend a lot of time alone with the youngest, one or two hours a day if the other kids aren’t awake too and even then Seokjin likes to monopolize the baby’s attention.
“You know I love you the most right?” Yoongi asks, cleaning Jungkook’s mouth with a baby wipe; the kid pays him no mind as he keeps watching the next episode. When the boy is all clean and nice he takes him into his arms again and takes him upstairs, figuring that they should just stay in his room since it’s the biggest one. He picks up some of the toys that Jungkook likes to play with the most and sets them in the carpet of his room along with the boy before plopping down next to him. The light coming from the ceiling-to-floor windows illuminates the pristine room, giving off a peaceful atmosphere that isn't usually felt with five children and two dogs in the house.
“Jungkookie give me a kiss,” the baby smacks his lips against Yoongi’s cheek, leaving a trail of drool and smiling like a bunny. Yoongi melts at the sight of his son and coos, kissing the boy’s chubby cheeks and making the kid giggle.
“You are just the cutest little bunny in the whole wide world aren’t you?” Jungkook laughs even harder, his big teeth poking out and ugh, Yoongi is getting diabetes from this sweetness.
“Daddy tickles!” Jungkook says, wiggling his little fingers on Yoongi’s neck, Yoongi pretends he can’t resist the tickles before wiggling his in Jungkook’s armpits and watching the boy squirm and fall into the floor in a mess of loud giggles. Jungkook’s laugh is cute and high-pitched, falling from his lips in little gurgles of happiness. Yoongi lets his hands be pushed away before kissing the baby’s head and then picking up a toy to entertain the boy, in the TV there’s another show playing and Jungkook gets to choose whether he wants to pay attention to the show or to Yoongi, who despite aways claiming that those shows are a little slow is still entranced by the plot of the episode.
A few hours later Jungkook is getting a little fussy and it looks like he’s hungry again from how he keeps nibbling at the iron man plastic toy so Yoongi takes the baby by the hand and guides him down the stairs before preparing the mid-morning snack. Again, Seokjin already left all the ingredients for the strawberry and banana smoothie packed in a neat container and Yoongi has to remind himself to kiss his husband and get him something pretty as a thank you, trust Seokjin to take care of his family even when he’s gone.
Jungkook is half-asleep as he sips on his smoothie, eyes drooping and head lolling with the straw on his mouth. Yoongi has to shake him awake several times so the kid won’t accidentally stab himself with it. When the smoothie is all done and clean Yoongi picks him up and carries him to his room, laying down next to the boy and setting a timer for the next two hours. Usually Jungkook sleeps for three but considering they had a late start this morning it would be better for him to get back in schedule if they want to make bedtime at 7.
He’s woken up later on by the alarm and one look at Jungkook tells him that he really shouldn't wake the baby up, knowing at he’ll probably cry if he does it, but again, they really need to make bed time or Seokjin will get angry at Yoongi for ruining Jungkook’s sleeping schedule so with a heavy heart he shakes the baby awake.
And of course he begins to cry.
There’s few things sadder than watching your baby cry and knowing that it’s your fault. Yoongi takes Jungkook on his arms and turns on the TV again, walking really close to the screen in order to distract the toddler, who keeps rubbing his eyes with his tiny chubby fists and making little whimpering noises. He suddenly gets an idea and decides to call Seokjin, trusting that his voice will help Jungkook calm down.
The phone rings three times before his husband picks up and the noise coming from the other side is enough to get Jungkook’s attention.
“Hey honey!” Seokjin says, voice all happy and loud.
“Is that daddy?!” Hoseok screams “hi daddy!”
“Papa!” Jungkook screams, looking at the phone with wild excitement, Yoongi chuckles and inches the device closer.
“Hey babe, Kookie and I just woke up from our nap,” he explains and Seokjin lets out a little huff.
“Ouch Taetae you hit papa really hard,” a little ‘sorry papa’ is heard in the background “how are you guys? Did you have a nice nap Kookie?”
“Yes!” Jungkook exclaims, sadness forgotten in favor of talking to his father.
“Aw that’s great baby! Are you having fun with daddy?”
“Yes! Lots of fun with daddy!” Jungkook answers.
“Good! You have to behave with daddy okay sweetie? Yoongi did he eat everything?”
“Yes sir, almost licked the plate with the oatmeal,” Yoongi answers, settling on petting Jungkook’s hair.
“Oh okay, that’s good, are you guys going to do anything today?”
“I’ll just take him to the park soon so he’ll tire himself out and then give him lunch and then play some more before going to sleep, right baby?”
“Yes! Fun!” Jungkook cheers, throwing his hands up in the air, Yoongi laughs and nods.
“See? We’re going to have a lot of fun, what are you guys doing over there?” he asks, kind of wishing he could be there to play with the rest of his children.
“Jimin and Joonie are helping my mom make jam in the kitchen and I’m with my dad, Hoseokie and Taetae playing with the horses,” Seokjin says, there’s some shuffling and high-pitched squeals on the other end of the line “Hoseok really likes the horses.”
“Oh I bet, okay babe I’ll leave you to that, I’ll call you at night.”
“Okay Yoongichii, love you!”
“Love you too,” Yoongi smiles, sending a kiss through the mouthpiece and setting the phone down. He takes a look at the clock before checking the weather outside, it’s a little cold but not enough to require a lot of clothes. Jungkook lets him out on a red hoodie and a black beanie before going up to the entrance and putting on the bright red booties Jin bought for him last year.
“Park?” Jungkook asks and Yoongi nods.
“Yeah! We can go and play in the swing sets for a little while okay?” Jungkook nods his head yes a lot of times and the two set out to the park.
The trek to the park isn’t that long, there’s one right near their house. Yoongi actually picked this house because it was close to the park and he thought the kids would be able to grow up with at least some greenery near them (never mind that their backyard has a lot of flowers and trees). The autumn leaves are still on their trees, but there’s some already falling down and he lets Jungkook lead him to the crunchiest-looking ones, waiting for the kid to step on them before continuing their walk.
The park has a few children and some mothers outside, but none that Yoongi can say he really knows well enough to have a conversation with. He waves hello to the woman that lives three houses down from their house and lets Jungkook run around the playground, watching him closely just in case he trips and falls. The swing sets only entertain the kid for a little while so Yoongi takes him out and lets him go to the castle under the condition that he won't try to do any of the tricks the older kids do in the monkey bars.
The autumn season brings some inspiration to Yoongi, who has been with a bit of a writer’s block (musician’s block?) for the past few days, maybe a melancholic heartbreak song? Yoongi hasn’t experienced heartbreak, but he understands music and he can experiment with the words and metaphors, that’s what the fans of the group he produces for like the most. As he’s deep in thought Jungkook keeps running around, going up the stairs of the castle and then down the slide.
It’s only when the sun is setting at Yoongi realizes that maybe he’s let Jungkook run around for a little too long but the kid is sweaty and happy so the two of them skip back home hand in hand. Jungkook sheds his hoodie at the entrance as he allows for Yoongi to take out his boots.
“Okay kiddo we’ll have dinner and then take a bath okay?” Jungkook nods excitedly, following Yoongi to the kitchen and trying to help his father warm up the food. The two of them eat in relative silence, neither of them being big on talking (especially not when they’re this hungry). After they’re done Yoongi goes to Jungkook’s room and picks up some pajamas before drawing a bath on his own tub, figuring that it’ll be easier for both of them to take a bath together.
He picks out a bath bomb as well, just for the extra fun and because he knows it’ll keep Jungkook from falling asleep in the tub. He puts on some music, rapping under his breath as he lathers Jungkook’s hair with shampoo and lets the boy bop him on the nose with his bubble-covered hand. After a bubble fight and having to clean his eyes because he got shampoo in them (should’ve used Jungkook’s no-tears shampoo) he dresses both of them up and plays a disney movie, cradling the child on his chest as they both fall asleep with the soft sound of the movie in the background, happy to have spent such a peaceful day with his youngest son.
