Work Text:

The screams of people going round and round, up and down the contraption towering over the amusement park was already making Jimin queasy. He hated roller coasters but he hated his friends a bit more.

Jimin looked around and saw Jungkook and Taehyung staring at him while eating cotton candy on the park bench. They threw him teasing grins. He really really hated them.

“Oh cmon Jiminnie, if you beat Jungkookie in the shooting game, we’ll both do anything you want us to do FOR A WEEK” Taehyung bargained earlier. Jungkook was beside him holding up two slingshots.

Jimin rolled his eyes. He wasn’t going to fall for his best friend’s puppy dog pout.

“Leave him, hyung, Jimin-hyung just knows I’m going to beat him” Jungkook smirked.

His other best friend’s taunting, however, was something he can never back down from no matter how hard he tried. Jimin grunted then grabbed the other slingshot and faced the targets. Jungkook and Taehyung’s faces could almost split with how wide their smiles were.

So after three rounds of slingshots and a bit more taunting, there Jimin was, on the line for the highest and scariest rollercoaster in town.

“Hey, you alright?”

Jimin whipped his head around to look at who was talking to him. It was a guy, a few inches taller than him, sporting a silver fauxhawk, and a worried stare.

The guy waved his hand over his face and Jimin realized he was staring. “Sorry” he immediately mumbled, “I’m just a little nervous”

“That’s alright” the guy said with a dimpled smile. Jimin felt heat reach his cheeks. The guy was really cute and tall and his voice was deep and-

“Lots of people get nervous on their first roller coaster ride. Usually people do it with friends though, why are you alone?” the guy asked.

Jimin shrunk back. Was he really that obvious? “M-my friends-” he looked towards the bench where his best friends were but found no one there, “fuck”.

“Let me guess. Couldn’t back down from a dare?” the guy sighed, as if he’s been down that route too many times before.
“I lost a bet” Jimin spoke with his voice just a little above a whisper. An amused laugh came from the man he was talking to and Jimin wished the ground would just eat him up. This was embarrassing.

“NEXT” the attendant called and it sent shivers down Jimin’s spine.

The man held his shoulders then bent down a bit to meet his eyes, “the faster we get on, the sooner you can get it over with” he said.

Jimin just nodded and let the guy lead him to the ride.

With shaky hands, Jimin buckled himself onto the seat. He breathed in then out then closed his eyes.

“Hey” the guy’s deep voice interrupted his thoughts. He turned to him and saw the guy smiling that cute dimpled smile of his and was holding his hand out. “If it helps, you can hold my hand?”

Jimin didn’t even think twice before grabbing the guy’s hand and holding onto it tightly. He wasn’t sure if it was his fear talking or if the guy actually mumbled, “cute”. But before he could say anything, the car roared to life and slowly moved forward.

After a lot of loops and ups and downs and slows and fasts, the rollercoaster finally parked and the safety bars went up.

Jimin was still in shock. His hands were sweaty and clammy and his knees felt weak. He barely registered walking off the car and onto the platform.

“That wasn’t too bad now was it?” the deep voice of the man he went with slowly brought him back to the world and he realized that their hands were still linked together.

Jimin shook his head and pulled his hand back, “sorry about that”. He placed his hand in his pocket and smiled sheepishly at the guy.

“Nah, it’s cool. Are your friends aro-” the guy began.

“NAMJOON HYUNG!”

The two of them looked towards where the call came from and saw Jungkook and Taehyung walking to them, popcorn and pretzels in their hands.

“Oh! Jimin, how was the ride?” Taehyung asked him as they reached where Jimin was standing.

“Ah, those two are your friends? Figures”, the guy, Namjoon, said, obviously amused.
Jimin rubbed the back of his neck and looked away.

“Yah, you two. How could you torture your cute friend like that?” Namjoon mock scolded the two and they looked at each other. Jimin quickly looked up at him.

Taehyung grinned and looked at Jimin, “Ah, Our Jiminnie really can attract even our coldest hyung” he teased.

Namjoon smiled shyly and Jimin really really liked the way he smiled.

Suddenly, his name was being called again and there were two tall guys waving at him. Namjoon turned to them, “well, I gotta go. See you guys around, yeah?” Namjoon said, more to Jimin than to the other two.

“Y-yeah” was the only thing Jimin could say before Namjoon was running to his friends.

When Jimin looked back at the boys he called friends, he immediately turned bright red. He recognized that look. He knew that he would never hear the end of what happened that day.

Jungkook cackled as they walked out of the carnival, “when you and Namjoon hyung get married, you have to thank us for getting you on that ride. Both the rollercoaster and Nam-”

“Jungkook, I swear, if you finish that sentence, you’re not even invited!” Jimin immediately regretted what came out of his mouth. Taehyung and Jungkook were bent over laughing hard.
