Chapter 1: Jin-hyung has a crush

Chapter Text

Tuesday 1/17

Min Yoongi, a music major, walks into The Peach, a small cafe that’s only a couple of blocks away from the campus, and usually isn’t crowded. The owner, Kim Seokjin, flashes him a big smile as soon as he walks in, and hands him his coffee. Yoongi pays for the coffee, with exact change. Since Yoongi’s been going to The Peach every single day, him and Jin have made a sort of friendship, along with a routine.

Yoongi sits at his usual table, towards the right of the counter, all the way in the back.

He opens his laptop and takes out his notes, and glances at the time on the clock. 2:57 pm. Jin’s break starts in the three minutes. Yoongi sighs and takes a gulp of his coffee. It’s black with one pump of hazelnut. Just how he likes it. He grabs a pen from his bag and underlines some of his notes. He does that for a couple minutes, before Taehyung walks up to the cash register to start his shift, and Jin sits down across from Yoongi. Just like normal.

Or maybe not. Jin’s sporting his normal smile, but the look in his eyes is, well, different from usual.

Oh boy, Yoongi thinks, what is it this time?

The last time Jin had had that sort of look in his eye, he had spent his entire break ranting about a one night stand he had gotten the night before. That wasn’t fun for Yoongi.

Yoongi sighs and says, “What?” to Jin, hoping he’s not starting a rant related to some guy’s dick.

“Well,” Jin starts, smile still plastered on his face, “I dropped off the scarf you left here yesterday at your place.”

Yoongi has no idea where this is going, but he doesn’t like it.

Jin inhales deeply, composing himself, before blurting out, “You did not tell me your roommate is a hot piece of ass!”

“……What.” Yoongi deadpans.

“When I went to drop off your scarf, your roommate opens the door, and I swear I almost have a heart attack, because he’s tall and buff and I’m ready to die and go to heaven.”

“Are you seriously crushing on Joonie? Out of everyone on campus you could choose?”

“Well, Yoongi, despite all of the times you’ve chosen to rant about him being messy, or breaking something, or both, you’ve decided to not mention the fact that he is extremely hot.”

“I can’t believe you right now.”

“And I can’t believe you!”

Yoongi sighs and buries his face in his hands, groaning. Jin is one of his closest friends, which is saying a lot, considering Yoongi hates most people, but Yoongi doesn’t think he could deal with Jin dating Namjoon. He shivers at the thought. So instead of being a good friend to Jin he says,

“I’m not setting you two up. If you want him, you’re gonna have to do it yourself. And I should probably mention that Joonie is one of the densest people I know. So you have your work cut out for you.”

Jin's smile has gotten even bigger, if that’s possible, and he replies, “Is that a challenge?”

Yoongi looks at him, expressionlessly, and retorts, “If you want it to be.”

“Challenge excepted!”

(Sunday 2/5)

When Yoongi “challenged" Jin to pursue Namjoon he had not expected Jin to actually be this committed. Jin, slowly but surely, over the course of a couple weeks, becomes an even bigger part of Yoongi’s life.

Jin drops in at Yoongi and Namjoon’s apartment at random times, with food usually, and sometimes hangs out for a couple hours. It’s not like Yoongi really minds, Jin is nice to be around, and the free food is an upside too. It’s just that it’s so obvious that Jin has been flirting with Namjoon, but Namjoon being Namjoon, just thinks he’s being friendly. Yoongi would intervene and smack some sense into Namjoon, because him and Jin are honestly just painful to watch at this point, but he told Jin that he wouldn’t help, and Jin will never let him live it down if he does help.

Besides, Namjoon will get it eventually. Probably.

But at times like these, when Jin is sitting at kitchen table with Namjoon, shamelessly flirting while Namjoon just thinks he’s being “friendly,” Yoongi thinks Namjoon might not ever get it.

It’s Sunday afternoon, so no one has classes, and Jungkook is working at the cafe, so all three of them have nothing to do.

Yoongi looks in his mug and realizes there’s no more coffee in it, so he heads into the kitchen to refill it.

It looks like Jin has finally gotten tired of flirting with the romantic equivalent of a rock wall, so he looks up when Yoongi walks into the kitchen and says,

“I’ve been thinking of hiring another person to work at the cafe.”

“Really?” Yoongi replies, “Did you get tired of finding Taehyung and Jungkook making out in the back room and fire one of them?”

“No,” Jin says, laughing, “I just thought it would be nice to have a third pair of hands.”

“Oh.” Yoongi says, pretending to be upset.

Jin keeps laughing and says, “Don’t act like you want one of them to go! I’ve seen how much you like them.”

“Yoongi hyung liking someone? That’s practically unheard of!” Namjoon cuts in, also laughing.

“Keep talking like that and you’ll be off the list of people that I like!” Yoongi retorts, but all the bite is lost because he’s smiling.

“Seriously though Yoongi, I’ve heard you call them ‘Tae’ and ‘Kookie’ before, and you only call people by their nicknames if you like them.” Jin adds.

“Oh you’re right hyung.” Namjoon says, “I never realized that before but you’re right. He calls me ‘Joonie’ and he calls you ‘Jin.’”

“Don’t talk about me like I’m not right here!” Yoongi exclaims.

“Sorry Yoongi hyung.” Namjoon says, unapologetically.

“Well, I should probably get back to my homework.” Yoongi says, sighing.

“Have fun!” Jin jokes.

Yoongi raises one of his eyebrows, and says, “Have fun trying to flirt.” Before walking back to his room.

He hears Namjoon sputtering, and trying to form a reply.

Only once Yoongi is back at his desk does he realize he forgot to get more coffee.

(Sunday 2/12)

Jung Hoseok, a dance major, walks into The Peach, glancing at the 'help wanted!’ sign. His friend, Taehyung, had told him that cafe he works at wanted help, and he knew that Hoseok was job searching. Hoseok was coming in for a job interview with the owner, and he was a little nervous.

Even though Taehyung had told him that the owner, Seokjin, was basically an angel, Hoseok wanted to get this job. Two of his friends work here and both of them said it was a really great job.

As soon as Hoseok walks in he is hit with the pleasant smell of coffee. Taehyung waves to him from the counter. Hoseok waves back, and walks over.

“Hey!” Taehyung greets him, smiling, “You’re early.”

“Not really,” Hoseok replies, “it's 3:25 and I’m supposed to be here at 3:30.”

“Exactly, early!” Taehyung replies.

“You’re just used to always being late!” Hoseok retorts, laughing.

“Whatever.” Taehyung says, “Let me get hyung.”

Teahyung walks over to the right side of the counter and leans over, towards a small table with two men chatting on it.

“Hey Jin hyung!” Taehyung calls.

One of the men looks up, a man with broad shoulders and pinkish-blond hair, along with a nice face, holy crap he’s hot, Hoseok thinks. The other man isn’t bad either, with a pale complexion, black hair and a pretty face.

Hoseok is thinking about how gay he is when Seokjin stands up and walks over to him.

“You must be Hoseok. I’m Seokjin.” Seokjin says, holding his hand out.

Hoseok shakes his hand and replies, “It’s nice to meet you Seokjin-ssi.”

Seokjin smiles and says, “Please, just Jin hyung is fine.”

“Oh, ok.” Hoseok replies.

The interview goes smoothly, and at the end of it, and while Seokjin and Hoseok working out a work schedule for Hoseok, the man that had been sitting with Seokjin waves goodbye to them, and Seokjin replies with, “See you later, Yoongi.”

Hoseok watches the man, Yoongi(?), leave and then turns back to Seokjin, question evident in his face. Seokjin sees it and says, “That’s my friend, Yoongi. He comes here every day, so you’ll be seeing a lot of him.”

“Ok.” Hoseok replies.

Hoseok leaves The Peach with a sense of fulfillment. He’s happy that he got the job. He practically skips back to his dorm, and when he opens the door his roommate, Jimin, looks up and sees his smile and immediately starts smiling too, and says, “I take it you got the job?”

Hoseok smiles at him and says, “Yup!”

“Nice!”

Hoseok walks over to Jimin and flops, face first, down on his bed. He rolls over and looks up at Jimin before saying, “The owner is extremely hot.”

Jimin laughs and says, “That’s gay.”

Hoseok grabs a pillow and smacks Jimin with it, while exclaiming, “You’re literally dating two guys!”

“I didn’t say I wasn’t gay! I was just commenting on how gay you are.”

“Ok, ok.”

(Wednesday 3/1)

It’s Wednesday morning at 10:35, which means Namjoon has to leave for his psychology class in an hour, but that also means Yoongi has to be in class in 10 minutes. And that’s why Namjoon is shaking Yoongi and practically yelling at him to get up.

“Hyung! Come on!” Namjoon shouts.

Yoongi finally rolls over and grumbles something about ‘dreams dying,’ but finally sits up.

“Hyung, your class starts in 10 minutes!” Namjoon tells him.

Yoongi just blinks at him a couple times before realization dawns on him.

“Oh shit!” Yoongi shouts, as he scrambles out of his bed and over toward his closet, to grab clothes.

Namjoon sighs and walks out of the room, and toward the kitchen. He already made Yoongi coffee to go, black, because he knows Yoongi will need that extra boost. He hears a thump from the next room, and a few seconds later Yoongi is rushing to grab his shoes. Namjoon walks over to him and hands him the coffee. He glances at it and says, “Thanks,” before rushing out.

Namjoon sighs and looks at the, now closed, door. Sometimes it feels like he’s the hyung, rather than Yoongi.

He walks over to his phone, and sees a few new messages, all from Seokjin hyung. He unlocks his phone and sees that Seokjin wants him to come to The Peach after class. Namjoon replies that he can come.

Namjoon has actually only been to The Peach once or twice, which is weird because Seokjin is his friend, and Yoongi is one of his best friends, as well as being one of his roommates. And on top of that, Yoongi goes to The Peach at least once a day.

Namjoon sighs and looks at the clock. 11:00. He has to leave in 20 minutes. He doesn’t really have anything to do, so he decides to go through some of his notes. He gets lost in them, and the next time he looks up, the clock reads 11:23.

“Oh crap,” he mumbles.

He grabs his stuff and rushes out of the door.

(Same Day)

When Namjoon walks into The Peach at 3:10 Yoongi is already sitting at a table talking to Seokjin hyung. Yoongi notices him first, and says something to Seokjin, who in turn get up and walks over to Namjoon, a light blush dusting his cheeks, probably because of the thing Yoongi said to him.

Namjoon wonders what Yoongi said.

“Hey!” Seokjin hyung greets, smile already plastered on his face.

“Hi Jin hyung.” Namjoon says in reply.

“Do you want anything?” Seokjin asks.

“A muffin would be great.”

“Ok!”

Seokjin heads off to grab a muffin for Namjoon while Namjoon grabs a chair and sits next to Yoongi.

“Hey hyung.” Namjoon says.

“Hey Joonie.” Yoongi replies.

Yoongi looks like he wants to say something else, but Seokjin comes back at that moment and hands Namjoon a muffin.

“Thanks Jin hyung!” Namjoon says, biting into the muffin.

The three of them sit and talk until Seokjin’s break is over, and even once his break is over, Namjoon sidles up to the counter and keeps talking to Seokjin. Namjoon notices that while they’re talking, the other worker keeps giving him weird looks. Namjoon decides to ignore it, he might just be imagining it.

Namjoon and Seokjin talk like that until Yoongi gathers up his stuff and walks over to them.

“Hey Namjoon, I’m gonna leave now.” Yoongi says.

“Oh! What time is it?” Namjoon asks.

“4:30.” Yoongi replies.

“Wow, it got late fast.” Seokjin states.

“Yeah,” Namjoon agrees, “I should probably leave with Yoongi hyung, but I’ll see you soon, Jin hyung.”

“Sounds good!” Seokjin says, “And Namjoon, you need to start coming to The Peach more.”

“Ok, hyung.” Namjoon replies.

Namjoon grabs his stuff, and him and Yoongi leave The Peach.
