Moving on

Summary:

Kuramochi just started his last year at the university and, unexpectedly, he can now move in with Ryou to his delight. Of course his friends can't let him go without a proper goodbye.

Work Text:

“…chi”

He furrowed his brows and rolled to the other side of the bed. It was so warm and comfortable here, there was no way he was getting up anytime soon.

“Mochi.”

He now unmistakably heard somebody calling his name. He growled, annoyed that someone was waking him up at this ungodly hour, and then slowly opened his eyes ready to share his piece of mind with whoever was disturbing him.

“What do you-”

“NOW!” someone shouted. Kuramochi felt something cold and wet and within seconds was out of bed almost tripping, as his legs were still tangled in the sheets, shouting: “FUCK!”

When the first shock was gone, he took a look around the room and saw Miyuki who was standing with his self-satisfied smile plastered to his face, holding now an empty bucket in his hands.

“What the hell are you doing?” Mochi said in a dangerous tone. “And stop with the pictures!” He was completely drenched and there were a bunch of people in the room laughing at his poor state and taking pictures – unbelievable.

“I am helping you with your hangover,” Miyuki explained, completely unfazed that Mochi was looking daggers at him.

“And couldn’t you do so in a more pleasant way?” he replied, brushing fingers through his wet hair. Toujou came up to him and handed him a towel, which he took gratefully with a quiet: “Thanks.”

“No way. Not all of us are so lucky to be moving in with their boyfriends,” Miyuki commented, raising his brow.

Someone in the group shouted, “That’s right!” and right after, “Serves you right!”

“Still sulking that Sawamura is happily living with Kominato and Furuya, and doesn’t get a hint that you would like to move in with him?” He smirked in victory when he saw scowl on Miyuki’s face. “And I don’t have a hangover, upperclassmen drank most of the alcohol,” he added, while drying his hair.

Yesterday the guys at the dorms threw him a farewell party where there was a lot of alcohol, food, and games. At some point everything got a bit out of hand and the party moved to the corridor where even more people joined, but ultimately it was a lot of fun.

Miyuki reminded him of one important thing though that instantly improved his mood – today he was moving in to Ryou’s place.

He smiled to himself at the thought.

He was waiting at this moment since he started university, and he just couldn’t contain his happiness.

“Jesus, look at you, you are so madly in love, you forgot about the whole world,” Miyuki said teasingly, nudging him in the side.

“Says the guy who can’t stand being apart from his boyfriend for a week,” Mochi retorted. Kanemaru gave him a high five for that.

“Now explain, why everybody is here?” He looked around at the familiar faces. Among them was Kanemaru and Toujou who chose the same university as he did. And of course there was Miyuki fricking Kazuya who played pranks on him since the day they ended up in the same room at the beginning of first year.

“We came to help,” Toujou replied.

“We thought that after yesterday you may not be up to packing your things, so additional pair of hands could be useful,” added Satoshi, with whom he attended same seminars last year.

“Besides, we just wanted to see you off before you leave us for good,” Tokiya followed, while Shinji was still taking pictures.

“Although it’s not like lately you have been spending much time here anyway,” Miyuki butted in, locking his arm around Kuramochi’s neck. “You’ve been staying over at Ryou-san’s place so much that you practically live there already.”

“Oh, come on, Ryou’s flatmate moved out recently, you can’t blame me for jumping at the occasion,” he huffed, his cheeks a bit red.

Ryou lived with Tetsu for the whole duration of their studies, but after graduation Tetsu decided it was the time for him to settle down. From what Kuramochi heard he went back to his home town for the time being, but was planning on moving in with Jun soon.

The guys looked around at each other and then Kanemaru replied, “We can’t blame you,” Kuramochi exhaled in relief, “but it won’t stop us from teasing you about it.”

Mochi scowled at that, which made everyone laugh.

“Now, go shower and we will pack your things,” Miyuki said, letting go of him and pushing him towards the door.

“Should I really leave you alone with my stuff?” he asked, looking at them doubtfully.

“You don’t really have a choice, do you?” Toujou replied, stack of the books already in his hands.

He exhaled in exasperation and gathered his things. “Just don’t do anything strange while I am out,” he said, before he left the room.

When he came back more than half of his things were packed. Surprisingly everything seemed normal, no fake spiders or anything like that waiting for him under the pillows or in his clothes, it was suspicious, especially while everyone were smiling at him in this specific way, which meant they have done something he wasn’t aware of yet. Hopefully he won’t find anything horrible while unpacking because he will get pissed for real.

When they packed the remaining things, they took all the boxes and carried them to Miyuki’s car parked outside the dorms. Then he took the last look at the room, he spent the last three years in, and left. Few of his friends came out of their rooms and whistled and cheered for him on his way back to the car, and they didn’t stop even when he finally barked in embarrassment that he was not dying and they will see each other on Monday during lectures.

Kanemaru and Toujou patted him on the back, wishing him good luck, and after that Miyuki turned the engine on and they were on the road.

“That was exhausting,” he groaned. He made himself comfortable in the sit and then closed the eyes for a moment. He slept around 4 hours at best and all the fuss made him tired. Right now he would give a lot for a cup of coffee.

He heard Miyuki laughing.

“You should have seen your face, it was hilarious.”

He opened one eye to glare at Miyuki, but he was looking straight ahead at the road, so it didn’t have any effect on him.

“Did you get any info about your new roommate?” he asked, his tone neutral. He was really happy that he was going to live with Ryou earlier than expected, but he felt kind of bad for making Miyuki change roommates during their last year at the university.

“Feeling guilty?”

“A bit,” Kuramochi answered truthfully.

They sat in silence for a moment and then Miyuki chuckled and flashed Mochi a wide grin.

“Lucky for you, I asked here and there and I won’t be getting a new roommate anytime soon.”

Kuramochi looked at Miyuki in confusion, but then the realisation hit him.

“No way.”

“Yup,” Miyuki answered, smiling with satisfaction. “A single room, one of the bests in the whole dorm, for my own personal use.”

He hit Miyuki on the arm while saying: “You could have told me earlier!”

Miyuki’s smile became even wider.

“No way, it was your punishment,” Miyuki said. “You should be grateful that I have told you so quickly. I could have tortured you for months!”

Kuramochi huffed and till the end of their ride they kept on arguing and teasing each other.

The ride was a short one, Ryou’s flat was situated in a quiet neighbourhood not far from the university.

When he got off the car he stretched his back and yawned, and then he saw Ryou, who was standing near the entrance to his building with a phone in his hand. He lifted his head when he heard Kuramochi calling out to him.

“Hi,” he said, when Ryou came up to him. He was aware he was grinning like mad, but he couldn’t help it.

“You are late,” Ryousuke replied with a playful smile on his face.

He closed the distance between them in two steps and when he was finally close enough, he placed his hands on Ryou’s hips

“I didn’t know we had an appointment,” he said, in an equally playful manner. His eyes dropped down to Ryou’s lips for a moment and then went up again to meet his gaze again.

“Such a shame.” Mochi leaned down, their lips now only few centimetres apart. “Maybe if you came earlier we would have time for a proper good morning,” Ryou added, tipping his head to the left, still smiling. “Come on, we should get going.”

He scowled a little when Ryou pulled away and ruffled Mochi’s hair on the way to the car, nevertheless he was really happy that Ryou was waiting for him.

He didn’t bring many things, but still getting all the boxes to the flat took them some time, especially while they had to carry everything to the third floor and there was no elevator.

“Thanks for the help,” he said, when they were finally finished.

Miyuki just shrugged his arms and grinned at him. “Now you own me a favour.”

Kuramochi huffed but after a moment returned the smile.

“Just give me a call if you need anything.”

Miyuki nodded and got in the car. Before he drove off he rolled the window down to say something.

“I hope you will survive till the next practice,” Miyuki snickered, giving him a pointed look.  “Good luck!”

Kuramochi grinned at that and then said: “You bet I will!” as Miyuki started the engine and drove off after a moment, disappearing behind the corner.

He turned around and started walking back to the building. With each step he felt more and more excited, and he finally broke into a spring and stopped only right before the door to the flat. It still felt so unreal to know that he will be living here from now on, that he will be able to wake up by Ryou’s side every day and that they will eat meals together and spend more time together throughout the day. Right now he felt like the luckiest guy on earth.

When he went in Ryou looked at him with his brows raised.

“…Was someone chasing you?”

He broke into a wide grin at that.

“I just couldn’t wait to see you.”

Ryou looked at him quizzically and then chuckled.

“Now you will have a lot of opportunities to see me, no need for you to run.”

He rubbed his neck a bit embarrassed, but the smile was still on his face. The thought of seeing Ryou everyday was overwhelming, and he could feel his heart swelling with happiness at that.

“Yeah,” he said tenderly, and although Ryou didn’t say anything his features turned a bit softer, he loved this expression. He loved most things about Ryou.

After a moment he ruffled his hair energetically, and said: “Ok, let’s unpack all the things,” to which Ryou-san agreed.

He came up to the pile of boxes and opened the biggest one. It turned out inside were his clothes, so he took all of them at once in his arms, making sure he didn’t drop anything, and carried them to his new room. He opened the doors to the closet with his leg and unceremoniously damped everything on the shelves.

When he returned to the room Ryou looked up from the boxes, a bit surprised that Mochi was already back.

“I will take care of it later. First I want to unpack everything.”

Ryou-san didn’t seem convinced by his words but didn’t comment on it. He probably knew that it was a lost battle as he saw how Mochi’s closet usually looked like. As long as he could find things he needed, he didn’t pay attention to tidiness as much as he probably should.

“You have less things than I expected,” Ryou said instead, taking out the books from another box and handing them to Kuramochi.

He shrugged. “You saw that we didn’t have much space in the rooms, so I only brought what was necessary. I will probably bring more after visiting home.”

Ryou nodded.

“We will also need to buy a few things, but it can wait for now.”

“Yeah, we can buy small things first depending on the budget,” Kuramochi agreed.

“Although we could use a double bed,” Ryou added after a moment, looking at him with a smile tagging at his lips.

He blushed at that, not hiding his surprise and genuine delight.

“I will write it down as a first point in our ‘To buy list’,” he said smugly. “Will we fit it in the room?” he asked after a moment, million calculations already forming in his head. They will probably have to move some things around, but they should be fine as long as the bed won’t be too big.

“We don’t have a choice, I want to be actually able to sleep during night.”

Kuramochi straightened at that. “Wait, does that mean you can’t sleep with me by your side?”

Ryou didn’t even bat an eye at Mochi’s shocked expression, and proceeded to say: “You sometimes throw so much in your sleep that I almost fell off the bed few times.”

“That’s not true!” Ryou raised a brow, looking at him doubtfully. “Ok, maybe it happened once or twice,” Kuramochi confessed. “This bed is just too small for two people.”

“If you say so,” Ryou replied, completely not convinced.

“Ryou!” he said, absolutely offended. “I will make you take back your words,” he added, and then threw himself at his partner and started tickling him.

Ryou whimpered, but then finally gave up and laughed. Kuramochi was the only person that actually knew Ryou was ticklish in some places, but finding this out took him painfully long.

“Will you take it back?” he said, looking at Ryou’s flashed cheeks.

“Dream on,” Ryou replied, and before Mochi knew what was happening, he was already pinned down on the floor and Ryou-san started a merciless tickling attack on him.

He refused to give up, but when he was out of breath and his stomach started hurting from too much laughter, he finally threw the towel. He was still no match for Ryou.

He was laying down on the floor, trying to catch a breath while Ryou was sitting beside him. He brushed Mochi’s hair and then kissed him on the forehead, fond smile on his face.

“You look nice like that,” Ryou said.

He chuckled breathlessly.

“Yeah, you always make me into a mess.”

“Not often enough,” Ryou replied quietly, brushing Mochi’s cheek with his fingers. They were looking each other in the eye for a minute and then decided it was time to get back to work.

For the next hour they were arranging all the things in the flat, moving some stuff and unpacking next boxes till they heard a loud grumble coming from Mochi’s stomach.

He completely forgot that he hasn’t eaten anything yet, and only now realised how hungry he was.

“Should we take a little break?” Ryou suggested.

“Yeah, I am starving. Do we need to do shopping?”

“I went shopping yesterday, so the fridge is full.”

“Cool. Let me cook something for you,” Mochi said. He passed by Ryou on his way to the kitchen, flashing him a big smile.

“Ho, I’m looking forward to what you will do,” he heard Ryou’s reply who, judging by the sound of footsteps, followed suit.

Mochi looked in the fridge and then checked what they had left in the cupboards while Ryou made himself comfortable at the table in his usual place, right beside the window.

He was pretty hungry, so he didn’t want to make anything complicated that would take too much time.

“How do you feel about spaghetti?” he asked, taking the tomatoes out of the fridge.

Ryou hummed thoughtfully and then replied: “Sure, he haven’t eaten it since like last week.”

Mochi turned to Ryou who had a teasing smile on his face – he was definitely making fun of him.

“I promise I will make you something special tomorrow when I have more time.”

“I will hold you to that,” Ryou said, giving him an unreadable look.

He cackled. “Just wait and see.”

After that he turned to the counter. He set the water for the pasta, and started chopping tomatoes while humming quietly. The pan in the left, lower cupboard, spices right above the stove, sieve under the drawers with the kitchen utensils. He has been cooking here so many times before, that he knew where everything was by heart now.

He liked cooking and baking, especially if he was doing it for someone he cared about. He didn’t have the occasion to cook proper meals at the dorms where the kitchen was small and half of the pans looked as if they were older than him, so the time he came over to prepare a proper meal for himself and Ryou were even more special to him.

He tasted the sauce and after a moment of consideration added to it a fresh basil he was growing on the window sill. Ryou was sceptical and thought the chances of survival of the plant were pretty low, but by miracle it didn’t die yet. He suspected that Ryou-san was watering it from time to time when Mochi couldn’t come over for more than four days, but he would have probably denied the fact.

The pasta was still a bit undercooked, so he reduced the flame under the sauce and turned to Ryou.

“Few more minutes and it will be ready.”

“I will prepare the plates,” Ryou said, standing up. While he was preparing the table, Mochi came up to him and hugged him from behind.

“How about a kiss for the cook?” he asked smugly.

He heard a quiet chuckle and then Ryou turned around and winded his hands around his neck.

“Oh, and did the cook do something to deserve the kiss?” Ryou replied, smiling teasingly. He threaded his fingers through Mochi’s hair ruffling them a bit.

“I most definitely think he did,” he said charmingly, tightening his hands around Ryou’s waist and pulling him closer.

“In that case, maybe a small kiss wouldn’t hurt,” Ryou replied in a seductive voice, and reached for Mochi’s lips. The kiss was gentle and slow and it turned into another one and another.

When they finally parted, Mochi licked his lips and then broke into a grin.

“It was more than a small kiss,” he said.

Ryou returned his smile, saying: “Maybe the cook really deserved it.”

Mochi chuckled and was about to lean for another kiss, when they heard a hiss coming from behind them.

“Oh, shit,” he said, unwrapping himself from Ryou and running to the pot, where water boiled over and was dripping all over the stove. He turned it off, cursing under his breath, then checked the sauce, which fortunately didn’t burn, but it was probably a close call.

He heard Ryou-san chuckling, and then he came over taking the cloth from Mochi’s hands saying: “Let me do it,”

Ryou-san quickly wiped the water and then put the food on the plates. Kuramochi gave the dinner a finishing touch by adding grated cheese on top.

It tasted good, maybe it wasn’t anything fancy, but it was definitely better than the food they sold in the cafeteria at the dorms.

They talked while eating about different things, starting from what they would need to buy and ending on some stories from the university.

At some point he started laughing so hard he would have probably choked on his food if it wasn’t for Ryou’s intervention who later rubbed soothing circles into his back.

He liked such moments, when he was alone with Ryou and they could just eat and spend some time together. Those were ordinary things, but that’s why he valued them even more so, because it was their precious time when they could relax and enjoy each other’s company.

After they finished the meal they went back to unpacking. There were now only four boxes left, so they were almost finished.

“You-chan,” Ryou said, when unpacking another box. He looked up. “This is probably for you.”

“What is it?” he asked taking a package from Ryou – it was the first time he was seeing it.

“I don’t know, but it seems like a gif, sort of,” Ryou replied, looking with a doubtful expression at the thing Kuramochi was holding.

The package was quite big, bigger than the average book, and on a brown paper there was an inscription saying: “Just a little reminder that you have also other people in your life besides your one and true love.”

He raised his brows at that and started unpacking whatever it was he was holding.

When he took off the paper it turned out it was an album. Kuramochi opened it and felt his throat tightening when he saw the pictures inside. They were from his time in high school, and on the front page there was a photo of the whole Seido team.

He suddenly felt overwhelmed with emotions and felt tears welling up in his eyes, which he quickly wiped with the back of his hand. Now that explained why everyone were smiling at him like that back at the dorms. He never expected such a gif, he truly had amazing friends.

“It’s a really nice gift,” Ryou-san said, in a soft voice. “Let’s watch it after we are finished.”

Mochi nodded, and aloud added: “That’s a great idea.”

He placed the album on the couch and returned to unpacking. He felt a bit tired when they finished, probably because of all the things that happened today, not to mention the lack of sleep.

“Do you want something to drink?” Ryou asked, stretching his back.

“Maybe tea?”

Ryou chuckled.

“Like an old man.”

“Hey, I just like tea!” Kuramochi responded defensively, which made Ryou chuckle even more.

He went after Ryou to the kitchen and leaned against the table, where he had a good view on the whole room.

“Strawberry?” Ryou-san asked, opening the cupboard that was filled with packages of tea in different flavours. It was a bit embarrassing but Mochi had to admit most of those were probably his and he had no idea when he brought over so many of them.

“Maybe peach?”

Ryou moved and took out the right package, next he put the tea bags into the cups and poured hot water over them. They waited a few minutes for tea to be ready talking about the latest episode of their favourite show they watched together every Thursday, and then Ryou handed him a cup. It was Mochi’s cup and his favourite one to add, which found its way to Ryou’s place pretty quickly and was always waiting for him there.

They went back to the living room and sat comfortably at the couch, side by side, putting the cups aside for the time being.

They were very close, their sides touching, and if it wasn’t for the fact that Kuramochi had to hold the album he would pull Ryou even closer to himself as he often did.

“Look at this,” Kuramochi laughed, pointing to the picture on the second page, on which Sawamura had one of the funnies expressions he ever saw. They caught him in the middle of sneezing – it was hilarious.

“Hoo, I never saw this one,” Ryou said, pointing to another one, where the famous trio consisting of Furuya, Sawamura and Haruichi were being scolded by Kuramochi. He didn’t really remember why he was scolding them but they probably did something stupid knowing Sawamura.

“Someone had to be a little strict with them at times,” he said. “But we probably weren’t as strict as you were with us. Au!” he said, when Ryou chopped him on the head. “What was that for?

“You were much worse than them, and you still lack discipline,” Ryou replied, which Mochi immediately denied.

There was a moment of silence and then Ryou leaned closer and closer till their cheeks were touching. “See, you are still rebellious. How about I teach you proper discipline later on?” he added in a whisper, right beside Mochi’s ear.

He felt shiver running down his back, and he reflexively swallowed loudly. When Ryou returned to his previous position he gave Mochi this look that meant there was a long night ahead of them, and that they will enjoy every minute of it.

His face felt hot and he grinned helplessly, not able to hide his excitement. He caught Ryou’s lips and quickly deepened the kiss, leaving them both breathless after a while.

“I am looking forward to it,” he said in a low voice, which he knew Ryou liked to hear.

After that they went back to watching pictures and browsed through the whole album, laughing and reminiscing about the past. It reminded Kuramochi how long they have known each other and how short this time seemed in comparison. It felt as if just yesterday they have finished high school, and here there was only one more year left before he will be a university graduate, time really flies by.

“You still had long hair back then,” he said, while looking at the picture with all third years during the training. “It was a shock when I saw you in short hair for the first time.”

“Did I look so bad?” Ryou asked with a chuckle.

“Different, but I like it as well,” he replied, extending his hand and brushing Ryou’s hair. He then moved his hand further back placing it on Ryou’s neck, and pulled him closer for yet another kiss.

“Yours doesn’t look half bad as well,” Ryou-san replied, looking up for a moment. Mochi also cut his hair shorter after high school, mainly because styling it became too much of a pain, but also because he felt like it was the time to change something in his life.

“Thanks,” he said, still looking at Ryou. He looked more mature in comparison to the high school days, but he had the same, teasing smile and was looking at Mochi with the same loving expression he did back then.

He still couldn’t believe how lucky he was that he got scouted by Rei-chan and could join Seidou team where he met Ryou. The first impression he made on Mochi wasn’t very good, but later on he grew to respect Ryou for his skills and for who he was as a person. He remembered the first time he thought he might feel something more than friendship towards Ryou, it was a strange feeling, but it somehow felt right. When he made up his mind and found the courage to confess he got really lucky because his feelings have been reciprocated, although Ryou didn’t reply straight away, leaving him in the dark for some time, which was driving him crazy.

He put the album down at the table and then brushed Ryou’s cheek with the back of his hand.

“What are you thinking about?” Ryou asked, he intertwined his fingers with Mochi’s and squeezed them gently.

“I was just thinking about the past.”

“You are doing it quite a lot today,” Ryou replied, returning his gaze.

Mochi chuckled.

“Yeah, it’s kind of a perfect occasion for that, don’t you think?”

“Hmm, I think it’s a perfect occasion for many other things as well,” Ryou replied, moving towards him.

He could feel the heat rising within him, when bit by bit they were getting closer. Mochi purposefully evaded Ryou’s kiss, and the next one as well, teasing him till Ryou looked a bit frustrated. Only then, with a wicked grin, he pushed Ryou down on the bed and sat on him.

“I don’t think I will be able to wait till night,” he said, placing his hands on both sides of Ryou’s head.

“Impatient, aren’t we?” Ryou asked, but didn’t push him away, on the contrary, he slid his fingers under Mochi’s shirt and brushed them over his stomach and chest.

“You can’t blame me, I was waiting for this long enough,” he replied, placing kisses along Ryou’s neck and then going back for his lips. Usually they probably didn’t kiss as much, but today it kind of felt right, they were gravitating towards each other and couldn’t stay apart for long.

Their kisses quickly turned more passionate and impatient, Mochi noticed with a hint of satisfaction that he wasn’t the only one who was waiting for this moment.

He moved Ryou’s shirt up and touched the hot skin, revelling in the feeling of it. He then grinded their hips, the muffled moans escaping both their lips.

“You-chan,” Ryou said, pulling him in, and then they heard a doorbell.

They froze in their positions and looked at each other.

“Ignore it, it’s probably a mistake,” Mochi said, but after a moment the doorbell made a loud sound again, and Mochi groaned in exasperation.

“I don’t think we expected any guests today,” Ryou remarked, but nevertheless gently pushed Kuramochi away and sat up. He looked equally irritated about this situation, so Mochi didn’t complain but instead helped him up and they both went to see who was disturbing them.

“Aniki!” In the door stood Haruichi and right behind him was Sawamura, Furuya and few of their close friends.

“Yo, we came for the party,” Miyuki butted in, coming in front and holding up the pack of beer.

“What party?” he asked, furrowing his brows and looking dangerously at Miyuki who was grinning at them.

“Welcoming party. You didn’t think we would miss such an occasion to wish you everything best?”

It was the first time he was hearing about it. He glanced over at Ryou but, judging by his expression, he wasn’t informed about it as well.

“We thought it would be a good idea to come say hello,” Sawamura added. He was carrying a big box full of snacks, and Kuramochi noticed that the other guys were also carrying some bags most probably filled with food and drinks.

“Come in,” Ryou said, moving aside.

Mochi exhaled and did the same. They couldn’t turn everyone down when they were already here. Besides, free food was always welcomed.

While passing by Sawamura nudged him in the side saying: “Good for you, senpai!” and then Haruichi followed suit saying: “Hello,” and bowing slightly.

He grinned at both of them and instructed where they should put the things they brought over.

When the last people came in, Ryou closed the door and came up to Mochi. He kissed him tenderly, not paying attention to their surroundings and then said: “We will continue tomorrow.” Mochi couldn’t hide the fact that the thought that he will be here from today onwards, allowed to be by Ryou’s side all the time, made him incredibly happy.

He nodded and then cackled, and spontaneously hugged Ryou to his surprise, gaining himself a few whistles from someone in the room.

“Yeah, we have all the time in the world.”

Ryou huffed at that amused, and when Kuramochi released him from his grip, Ryou went to their guests, on his way turning slightly to Mochi asking: “Would you like to join?”

Kuramochi followed him with a big grin on his face, already looking forward to the days that lie ahead of them.
