Work Text:

The breeze sways the ends of his coat in a rhythm that makes him yawn. It’s 4 in the morning after all.

Taehyung gazes at his feet as he tries to step inside the lines. It’s a small park beside a convenience store, it’s a small bench under a tree. It’s a small thing for him, to wake up with only two hours of sleep to wait for Jimin.

His voice sounded very strained on the phone. He could tell Jimin spent the whole night in the studio, probably trying to perfect their new choreography. He’s worried, of course he is.

It’s been a long time since Jimin overworked himself into exhaustion, but old habits die hard. He yawns as he sits down, taking out his phone. Half of him wants to call Jimin, the other knows he’s coming soon.

The sky paints the sidewalk a soft blue, the lights from the convenience store are still off. The old people taking their morning walk pass him by, smiling at him.

He looks to the left and sees Jimin walking towards where he is. He raises his hand and waves lazily until Jimin raises his hand to extend a timid wave.

“Hey, did the hyungs park in the convenience store?” Taehyung asks as Jimin sits down.

“Yeah,” Jimin replies, eyes forming soft crescents that could paint the night sky.

“So, why’d you call?” Taehyung asks, patting Jimin’s knees. It’s a soft silence, a calm pause. Something that comes before storms.

He hears Jimin sigh and they turn toward each other. “It’s kinda stupid,” Jimin starts, but Taehyung cuts him off.

“No, it’s not. If it’s enough to bother you like this then it’s worth a lot to listen to, alright.” Taehyung says, and Jimin smiles sadly. “I went to shoot Masked Singer right?” Taehyung nods.

“I sort of insulted a sunbae? It’s nothing big really, I’m just worried for the reactions when it airs.” Jimin explains slowly, tiredness evident in every lilt of his tone.

“I don’t think a lot of people would mind.” Taehyung says, smiling. The birds chirp in agreement.

There’s a hollowness in Jimin’s laugh.

“I think, no matter how little, I’d still see those comments you know. I’m worried they might trigger -“

“No, come on. I won’t let you read any of that.” Taehyung says sternly. Jimin smiles at him, a real one now.

He’s terrified because suddenly, like rainfall that was promised that afternoon, a tear streams down from Jimin’s eyes down the apples of his cheeks.

“Hey, hey. Why are you crying?” Taehyung asks, pulling closer and reaching out to brusquely wipe the tears off of Jimin’s face with his palms.

“Tae, I’m so afraid of tomorrow. The sun suffocates me, the concept of tomorrow. It’s like the world strips me naked. I can’t help but feel it, there’s no other way. Right now, I hate this time, in between yesterday and today where I’m left to think and drown in my worries.” He says, trailing off.

Taehyung takes his hand in his. “At times like this, you know, before sunrise but you can’t see the moon either, I want you to know, I want you to remember, I’ll be your light instead, okay?”

Taehyung smiles softly, the air enveloping them in blue and softness. It’s a bit chilly, but the smile that Jimin gives him warms him enough.

“Thank you… so much.” Jimin whispers as he pulls Taehyung’s hand, the one holding his and he embraces his bestfriend.

“I’m so lucky that at least, in this life, I have you to trust. Thank you for being my bestfriend.” Jimin whispers softly.
