Shouto and Izuku were on their way to a new shop that was recently opened and people recommended the Yakisoba there a lot, so they went to check out of curiosity.
The weather was nicer than the last weeks, continuous rain has been stuck for the almost entire month before. Even a little hotter than comfortable. It was a nice day in the midst of July, a deep blue sky forming the perfect weather to enjoy a day eating ice cream and just watching the clouds roam by.
But recently the weather got unbearably hot in the city with no breath of air and a heat wave going around town. So some plants start so wither and forest fires are common in the news reports.
The distant sound of something familiar caught Shouto's attention. He listened again carefully and it stopped. But he was sure it sounded like a cat mewling from not too far from where he stood.
“Do you hear that?“, Shouto asked.
“What do you mean?“
Izuku gave him a confused look. After a while the both of them noticed it, so they slowly followed the sound and found a cardboard box in the bushes. It must have had a position in a well shaded place between the trees a few hours ago but the sun was literally burning by now on this well hidden spot. In the cardboard box were a few blankets with red and yellowish checked pattern over each other and on top of that: a very pregnant cat mother. Next to it lied an almost empty bowl of water.
The boys looked to each other a short moment in shock before the cat continued on getting their attention back. She mewled almost fainting.
“Do you also think she is pregnant?“, Izuku started after a while of worried glances.
“Yeah, must be. Do you know how to handle a pregnant cat mom?“, Shouto returned.
Izuku stayed silent for a while observing the situation, mumbling after a while thinking of the condition the fella was in. He once read about what to take account of when a cat was pregnant but this was the first time dealing with one.
“I think she needs water first. How about you use your quirk to build a bit of ice into her bowl? It will melt in a few minutes, so she can drink it and it will be still cool enough. In the meantime we need to get in touch with a vet.“, Izuku said doing the usual frown when thinking carefully analyzing a situation.
Shouto was relieved he wasn't alone in this situation.
“Okay then.“, he hesitantly responded.
Attentively he tried to build a small amount of ice into her bowl. Izuku watched him while doing that, letting out a sigh of ease after it was done. He fished his phone out of his school bag looking for near-by vets only to realize that the vets are already closed by this time of the day. The ice melted a bit down by now and the cat contently drank a bit of the new water.
Shouto unconciously reached for the gray and white spotted furball to pet her head down to the back. She purred appreciatively in return and as Shouto showed a bit of a smile Izuku couldn't help but also snicker ruffling the stressed cat mother's fur.
“The vets are closed by now. So one of us needs to take her back I guess. I heard they needed a quite place to rest and litter their kittens. Will it be your place or my place then?“
“I'm not sure if my dad allows pets at home, so it must be your place.“, Shouto replies, almost a sound of disappointment sound in his voice to be heard.
The both of them were so immersed in the cute little friend they just made that they didn't quite seem like they'd want to leave to the next place.
Almost simultaneously they both start laughing out loud, the faces flushed from the heat, that new shop long forgotten.
