for him.

Summary:

Right now, the small light that illuminated Shoto’s face was the most beautiful thing in the world. The idea of the fireworks were suddenly not so interesting as watching his friend’s side for the rest of the night.

Notes:

Okay this sucked mostly because I have no idea how to link romance to the beach. I always link it with either family or friends not romantic relationships. To me the beach is...something else.

In short, i suck at writing romance with beaches. This was hell.

Work Text:

Todoroki touched the firework with the tip of his finger, lighting it up. Sparkles came from it, making Todoroki’s eyes fill with light.

“It’s pretty, isn’t it?” Izuku asked holding his own Sparkler upside down. Both of them were sitting in the sand, hearing how everyone else in the class screamed at the sky.

“Yeah,” Todoroki said, unable to take his eyes away from the thousand of tiny lights flying through the air. He looked up slightly. “What is Kaminari doing?”

Izuku looked up and snorted as he watched his classmate try to light up one of the fireworks, failing spectacularly.

“Kaminari, you fight villains daily, how can you not be able to light a firework?” Jiro asked, standing next to Izuku, a safe distance from the ocean where Kaminari and Kirishima were trying to set the biggest fireworks.

“Well a villain won’t explode in your hand!” Kaminari yelled back, and Izuku couldn’t help laughing.

“Well, I know a Hero who could help with that,” Jiro answered back, making Izuku’s face turn towards Bakugou. He was sitting on the truck that had taken them to the beach in first place, watching from afar how Kirishima tried to light up them up without getting burnt.

Izuku felt like smiling, glad that everyone in the class was having fun. Even Uraraka and Iida, who were searching for seashells in the sand, before the last strings of sunlight took their chance away. Tints of red and pink danced in the dark blue sky, and the first fireworks of the festival started exploding in the distance.

“Everyone is having fun,” Todoroki said, taking the words right off Izuku’s mouth.

“Yeah, I’m glad,” Izuku said, waving his little stick of sparkles in the air. “Are you having fun?”

“Yes,” Shoto answered, eyes staring deeply into the sparkles that came out. Izuku for some reason, didn’t find them all that beautiful anymore. He could no longer watch them intensely as he would have when he was younger. Even when just a few hours ago he had told Uraraka that the thing he was most excited about, were the fireworks.

Right now, the small light that illuminated Shoto’s face was the most beautiful thing in the world. The idea of the fireworks were suddenly not so interesting as watching his friend’s side for the rest of the night.

The last bit of his Sparkler died, and soon after, Shoto’s did too.

“It’s gone,” Todoroki said, looking sadly at it. Izuku raised his head, suddenly feeling his face grow hot.

“I still have a few more,” Izuku went through his bag, searching for more Sparklers. It was a shame he had bought so little of them in the festival. “I wonder when they’ll start shooting the fireworks…”

“It doesn’t look we’ll see ours anytime soon,” Todoroki said, making Izuku raise his head. He almost laughed when he saw that Kirishima and Kaminari had given up.

“Kaachan should help them,” Izuku reached for the last three Sparklers he had, “he always fired them when we were little.”

“You came here when you were little?” Todoroki asked, taking the Sparkler from Izuku’s extended hand.

“Every summer,” Izuku smiled, letting memories from the past fill him. “I would sit right here with my mom, as we lit them all over the beach.”

“That sounds nice,” Todoroki said, casting his eyes to the ground.

“We should come here next summer,” Izuku suggested, feeling how everything in him was buzzing. “I mean…we could…”

“Sound nice,” Todoroki said.

Izuku felt his heart swell. He turned around to see Todoroki and fell like he would die in that exact second. Todoroki had started the Sparkler, this to serve as the only light to see each other. He was blushing, Izuku realized, just like he was. There was something comforting on knowing the object of your affection was as nervous as you were.

Todoroki looked perfect, and that was probably what made Izuku feel even more like he was about to explode.

“Mom liked to come to the beach too,” Todoroki sai out of the blue, surprising Izuku, “we would come every summer, in her birthday. My old man didn’t like the beach, so he didn’t come. I think those were the best days ever.”

Izuku tried to imagine it. Todoroki as a kid, running a long the sand, his mother staring as the blazing sun covered the sand. It was a lovely picture.

“When is her birthday?” Izuku asked, still unable to look away from Todoroki.

“In two weeks,”Todoroki, in turn, looked at the Sparkler. He was genuinely intrigued by it, and Izuku couldn’t help but find it cute.

“Two weeks?” Izuku wondered, then smiled, “you should come with her. It’s a little busy during the afternoons, but you could come in the morning. Before ten the beach is pretty much empty.”

“How about you come too?” Todoroki asked, surprising Izuku. “If you want to.”

“I want to!” Izuku said at the moment, his face felt so hot it probably was catching fire. “But…do you really want me to come…”

“It’s boring to spend the day only the two of us,” Todoroki’s Sparkler began to die, “and I think it’s good you two meet.”

Izuku had never felt more lucky. He felt like he didn’t deserve whatever was happening right now. But despite everything, he wanted to be selfish. To believe he did deserve it. So gently, he nodded.

“Wohooo!” Kirishima’s cry of glory cut through the air, and they both turned to see the sky. “Bakugou you did it!”

“Of course I did it, idiot! Even a kid knows how to light a firework!”

The sky exploded in a millions of colors, raining like a waterfall as more an more of them began pouring into it. All Izuku could see were the colors, and the lights and how beautiful the sky looked.

“It’s so pretty,” Izuku said out loud, feeling like a little kid again.

“Yeah,” Todoroki said, and Izuku felt something brush against his hand. He turned to see Todoroki’s reaching for his. Izuku didn’t shy away from the touch, as he chose to stare at Todoroki’s face, illuminated by the fireworks in the sky.

He took Shoto’s hand and didn’t let go.
