The special cookies that were made only during fall by the college’s cafeteria always drove the students insane, making them wake up extra early to see who would grab a bite of the chocolate wonder and who would be left crying on the floor.
Normally, Hoseok would be the first kind of person, he was an early bird in every season anyways, so it wouldn’t be hard to eat at least one cookie. Yoongi, however, had many troubles waking up early, and when he did, there would always be something in his way. For example, in the first day of last year’s fall he set his alarm clock at 6AM, woke up, took a shower and was ready to get dressed and face the day, but he was Min Yoongi and nothing went according to plans.
When he tried to put his binder on, it simply ripped .
He had a crisis that lasted around twenty minutes, thinking about how much it would cost to replace the old binder – rest in pieces – he just destroyed, if the shipping would be too hard on his wallet, if Jimin had one laying around and could lend it to him for a few weeks. When he put himself together it was already 6:45AM, he put on two thick sweaters and a hoodie – just to be safe – and ran down the corridor straight to the cafeteria.
Arriving at the mostly empty cafeteria – some students liked to wake up, get a cookie and go right back to their dorms to eat it later because of how early it was – he went directly to the displays, looking for the orange treat.
And there he found it, the last one.
The relief that washed over him was enough to make him pass out right there, but he needed to be strong, go over to the counter, pay for his cookie and get out of there, while grabbing his wallet – he noticed, breaking in a cold sweat, that he was so rushed to go to the cafeteria that he forgot it. It’s probably on his bedside table, laughing at him, the crumpled bills mocking him for his stupidity.
That’s when Hoseok appeared in front of him, paid the clerk and asked for the last special cookie. It was the second time that day that he almost passed out, he was buying it for Yoongi, who was an idiot and forgot his wallet, the younger would probably say something like ‘ it’s ok hyung, i got you ’ and smile that beautiful sunny smile of his.
The mental image made Yoongi smile, which was immediately turning into a frown when he noticed Hoseok was going for a bite.
‘Wait!’ – said Yoongi, putting a hand over Hoseok’s chest, who frowned – ‘Aren’t you gonna give that… To me?’
His frown frowned ‘Why? You didn’t ask me for a piece, did you?’
Yoongi blushed ‘Well no, but I thought you were buying it for me as i forgot my wallet in the dorm and couldn’t buy it before you’ Hoseok smirked, making him blush more.
‘Really, hyung?’ – he said in a teasing tone – ‘You’re really forgetful, you know that?’
Yoongi blushes even more ‘Shut up Jung, are you gonna give me the cookie or not?’
‘Only after a fair match of…’ – he trails off, a finger on his chin while he looks around the cafeteria, his face lights up suddenly – ‘I know! Rock, paper, scissors!’
‘Seriously?’ – asks Yoongi, crossing his arms in front of his chest, he remembers he still has to ask Jimin to see if he has a spare binder before looking online – ‘That’s all you could come up with?’
‘Yeah,’ – said Hoseok, holding the warm cookie with one hand between the two – ‘unless you wanna bet which one of us would jump on one of the tables and start stripping, the hottest one wins the cookie, it’s up to you.’
Yoongi glares at him, pouting just a little ‘ Fine . Let’s go with rock, paper, scissors then.’
Deciding to take that to their room, and not the middle of the cafeteria where they argued for about five minutes – the janitor walked by them and asked if they had better things to do instead of getting on the way of her cleaning, they blushed and apologized –, they got out of there.
Soft music is playing on the background, it’s 7:23AM, muffled laughter comes from the hallway, Hoseok is kneeling on his bed while Yoongi sits criss crossed, the cookie stays on the middle of them, cooling down at every moment that passes. With luck, Hoseok’s purple whale blanket will not suffer from any crumbs later on.
‘Alright, if it’s rock, paper, scissors that you want, then you got it,’ – said Yoongi, looking at Hoseok’s smile – ‘let’s go.’
The other smirks, holds one hand up and shakes it three times, each time for each word, rock, paper, scissors, Yoongi does the same.
It’s a tie, both played rock.
Repeat. Hold one hand up, shake it three times, each time for each word, rock, paper, scissors, they throw their hands down and then open.
It’s a tie, both played paper.
Repeat, again. Hold one hand up, look at each other, shake it three times, watch the other shake his hand, rock, paper, scissors, look back at each other, they throw their hands down, open.
It’s a tie, both played scissors.
‘Ah, fuck this!’ – Hoseok throws himself back onto the mattress, groaning, legs being thrown over the edge of the bed – ‘This is stupid, I bought the cookie, with my money, why should I be doing this?’ – he looks at the boy in front of him, still sitting criss crossed – ‘Why can’t I just eat it already?’
Yoongi sighed ‘Just... Ok, look, why don’t we do a little game of truth or dare?’ – he regrets saying it the moment it leaves his mouth – ‘The first one to fail saying the truth or doing the dare loses and the other gets the cookie.’
This wouldn’t end well, both boys watched enough American High School movies on their childhood and teenage years, they know what truth or dare can do.
Hoseok, however, ignored the little voice in the back of his mind and said ‘You know what? Alright, let’s do it, truth or dare,’ – he gets up from his starfish-like position and imitates Yoongi’s – ‘just you and me, me and you, just us.’
He smiles, Yoongi swallows the feelings stuck in his throat ‘Just us.’
Hoseok pulls a bottle of something – he swears it’s not vodka, Yoongi just raises his eyebrows, not amused – from under his bed and places it on the floor of the room, where both are now sitting quietly, one turning the bottle, asking or ordering something, while the other complies.
‘Where was your first kiss? Wait, even better, have you ever kissed before?’
‘I dare you to scream I am the gayest man in this university and no one can stop me through the window.’
‘Do you genuinely enjoy your family’s company?’
‘I doubt that you can make a split, right now. Come on, at least try.’
‘Have you ever prayed for God to change you?’
‘I dare you to dance the weirdest, cringe-worthy, horrible dance you ever danced.’
‘Have you used some hot sex toy before? You can tell me, I know how to keep a secret. And if yes, did you like it?’
They’re a giggling mess, the cookie long forgotten, still on the bed, music keeps playing . They’re flushed, feeling light, then Hoseok says it.
‘I dare you to kiss me.’
Yoongi looks at him, who is looking right back. He doesn’t think twice, laughs ‘Sure.’
In the next heartbeat, Hoseok is crawling from his spot, going to Yoongi, who just sits there, frozen in expectation. Hoseok leans in, his hands are soft on the other’s neck, his eyelashes batting twice, his other hand goes to Yoongi’s shoulder, holding him. The air is warm heavy, lips are almost touching. Yoongi ends the distance, takes the initiative.
A hand goes under someone’s shirt, trailing up, hair is being pulled lightly, sighs and groans manifest in the air, eyes open quietly, dilated pupils greet one another, lips bid their goodbyes, they stare at each other. They go in again.
