Work Text:
Katsuki Bakugou stood facing the mirror of the boys bathroom at UA, his face was dripping with cold water. His hands gripped the sides of the sink as he stared into his own eyes. He took several deep breaths, trying to process several different events that happened recently. Events that happened as a result of different actions he had taken in the last few days. No one would ever know how much he cursed himself for not learning how to properly socialize and express himself peacefully now. As a result of his lack of knowledge in that field, he found himself floundering at every attempt he made to express a single feeling. One that he had only just recently noticed, but learned it had been there a long time. An intense feeling had inhabited his being for some time now, a feeling triggered by his one of his classmates. Originally, he couldn't have cared less for her, a girl who was accessory friend to that nerd Deku. But at the sports festival she showed him something within her, determination, strength, and no shortage of willpower. She wasn't just Deku's friend anymore, she was Ochako Uraraka, a rival worthy of his all out power and ability, someone who was far from weak. Over the course of the year, Uraraka had slowly crept into his world more and more, or perhaps it was more accurate to say his view widened enough to see her in it. Now, she was not just in his world, she was consuming it. His eyes drifted to her from time to time, curious to see how she reacted to things here and there. When he heard her laugh, Bakugou's attention was grabbed from whatever he was doing and he would occasionally smile. The boy chalked it up to his acknowledging her strength, nothing more. However, as he kept stealing glances at her, he felt an intense beating within his chest when he looked at her, and his face turned completely red at times. With these symptoms, he came to what he believed the right conclusion: He wanted to fight her again so badly that he was getting pissed off in a strange new way. So he challenged her to a sparring match in the gym without using their quirks,(going all out would result in property damage that he honestly did not want to deal with). The memory of the event played back in his mind like a film, every detail of her-it was fresh in his mind.
"Why did you want to spar with me anyway? Bakugou?" Uraraka asked, stretching her limbs before the work out.
"I've been itching to fight you again since the sports festival, I've been so excited, that it's been driving me crazy!" Bakugou grinned widely, showing off rows of sinister teeth.
"Wow, did you enjoy our fight that much?' Uraraka looked a little bewildered.
"Of course, you fought like a fucking badass, and you've gotten even better since then!" Bakugou rolled his shoulders in anticipation.
"Oh! Well, that was surprisingly nice Bakugou! I promise I won't disappoint you then!" She looked stunned by his words at first, but her demeanor quickly shifted back to her upbeat attitude.
"Good." He responded.
They took proper combat stances and stood on the training mat, directly opposed to each other. Their rapport from a moment ago was replaced by an intense look into each others eyes. Bakugou was getting hotter and sweatier(something that was actually very dangerous in his case) because of it. The intense desire to fight her must be getting impatient he thought. With no quirks, it was a simple sparring match, hit your opponent in the chest or head to score a point, and the first one to get to three points was the winner. Bakugou took the initiative, and started with his famous right hook. A part of him wanted to see what she would do when facing it in this context. For him, the expected outcome would be that she block it and wait for him to make another move she could take advantage of. To his surprise, Uraraka stepped forward and flew towards him faster than he had anticipated. A quick circular motion signaled to Bakugou that she was going for an uppercut with her right hand. Reflexively, he caught the upper cut before it connected with his left hand. But in spite of those reflexes, he felt a decently strong punch land on his chest.
"That's one for me!" Uraraka smiled.
The fact that Uraraka had slipped past his defenses and touched him somewhere in the chest made Bakugou's face feel hot. Naturally, he thought he was pissed and acted accordingly. The tame sparring match that it had started as turned into something more fierce. Even without his quirk, Bakugou was not to be taken lightly in a fight. He darted around the sparring mat unleashing a flurry of blows and maneuvers in order to bring down Uraraka's defenses. But despite the merciless barrage of attacks, only a third of them actually connected. Uraraka was masterfully dodging almost everything he could dish out and what she couldn't avoid, she blocked. The futility of his attacks drove Bakugou to hit harder and faster, looking for a chance to exploit her weaknesses. Due to the nature of the sparring match, he risked too much if he tried to pull some crazy maneuver like he normally did in fights. For now, his attacks were all about wearing her out enough to create an opening. His plan worked, as Uraraka recovered from the blows, she left a part of herself wide open, an opportunity Bakugou exploited readily. With great force, he planted his fist directly into her sternum and scored himself a point. With a blow like that, he had expected to knock Uraraka away but she didn't budge from her spot. But not only had she endured the force of the blow, but she took hold of Bakugou's arm and refused to let go. Uraraka then spun around and pressed her back against his chest. Feeling her frame nearly enveloped in his made Bakugou's breath shorten and stunned his entire person for a second. With that free second, Uraraka moved Bakugou's arm over her shoulder and flipped him over her back, slamming him onto the training mat. For a brief second, he stat there, still dumbfounded at what just happened, when Uraraka shook him from his stupor.
"That's another point for me!" She said as he landed a gentle pat on his chest.
Bakugou said nothing in response which made her stop for a moment and look at him, concerned.
"I don't know, i think I've achieved a new level of pissed off, one where I'm so mad and disappointed I can't even react." He said in a monotone voice.
"Uh, alright?" Uraraka looked confused.
Bakugou looked up at her and sighed, in a somewhat defeated manner.
"I give up." He said, shocking her.
"Really? but we're not finished yet." Uraraka looked concerned for him, like he was sick or something.
"Yeah, you won alright..." Bakugou scowled and stood up.
"Are you alright Bakugou?' She asked.
"Yeah, why the hell do you ask?" He answered, brushing himself off.
"Well because normally you'd be all. "Raa! I Won't lose like this, Round Face! RaA!" and stuff." After she said that she made explosion movements and boom sound effects.
"Look! I... I just don't feel like fighting anymore right now, okay?" He looked a little crestfallen.
Bakugou had no idea why he felt the way did did now, he had a chance to fight her again like he thought he wanted. It wasn't a bad fight either, as she proved to be an awesome opponent like before, but something about it, just didn't feel right. And he didn't think continuing would get him any farther.
"Alright, I don't know what's wrong but I hope you feel better, I like Bakugou when he's at his best. Ready for action!" Uraraka smiled and gave him a "fight on!" gesture.
Immediately after he saw her smile and her concern for his well being, Bakugou felt a warm, soft feeling pulse from his heart and spread all over his body. He was sweatier than normal and his breath was falling short, more so than that, he was overcome by an intense desire to crush.... no, hug Uraraka. Bakugou was not adept in these matters but it was finally at this point that he realized just why it was he had been feeling so strange around recently. He wasn't itching to fight her(though he had enjoyed it) he was far worse off in his mind. He had developed a big crush on her.
"Aw Fuck." he sighed.
The flashback ended and Bakugou was back to staring at his annoyed reflection in the mirror. He couldn't believe that he had come to like Uraraka so much. Not only could he not believe that, but he also couldn't believe he mistook those feelings for a burning passion to fight her. Embarrassment was not a familiar emotion to Bakugou, as he rarely regretted minor things, so what he was feeling right now was painful. He doused his face with another splash of cold water and looked back into the mirror. If it had ended there at the sparring match eh wouldn't have been as bent up about it as he was now. But no, it was only the beginning of the events that had happened. Bakugou wiped the water from his eyes and stared back into the mirror again, recalling what had happened a few days after the sparring match when he realized his true feelings. Back then Bakugou had tried to deny it, pretend he was crazy or sick and it would all blow over. He tried to talk more to Kirishima and Kaminari, surprising and disturbing them at the same time. But he couldn't help looking back to Uraraka from time to time. The worst part was that she would catch him looking from time to time and wave back with a smile, sending that same rush of warmth throughout his body again. He would get intensely angry and glare at her in response, then turn back to whatever it was he was originally doing. It made him paranoid and more irritable, he would blow up at people more than he usually did. They would ask Midoriya if that much was normal for him but even he thought Bakugou was acting strange. It went on for almost a week before Bakugou ran into someone he had been avoiding for some time while he was getting ready to head home.
"Hey Bakugou," Uraraka approached him.
"What do you want, round face?" Bakugou tried to avoid looking her in the eye in order to avoid embarrassment and hide his blushing.
"Everyone's worried about you, you've been acting... odd." She answered
"All of you are being stupid, I've been the same as always." He tried to brush off the accusation.
"Well normally you're only slightly angry and get heated over tiny details for a short amount of time." Uraraka answered.
"Oh yeah? and how have I been lately?" Bakugou asked, a little annoyed.
"Well, as Kaminari put it... pissy and childish?" Uraraka tried to recall the exact terms.
"Really now...." Tiny explosions lit up the back of his hand.
"Yeah, so we're all a little worried." Uraraka said.
The idea of her worrying for him sent his already chaotic heart into a beating frenzy, he shook with happiness and denial filled rage.
"I'm leaving!" Bakugou slammed his locker closed and headed for the door.
"But Bakugou!" Uraraka put her hand on his shoulder and it sent a warm feeling down his spine.
He immediately spun around and knocker her hand away out of fear and embarrassment. Something about the situation brought out a lot of emotions that he did not know how to deal with.
"SHUT UP! STOP ACTING LIKE YOU GIVE A SHIT! CAN'T YOU STOP ACTING LIKE LITTLE MISS ANGEL FOR FIVE FUCKING SECONDS AND LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!?" He roared in the halls.
Everything went silent as passing students suddenly stopped and diverted their gaze at the source of the vocal explosion. Bakugou's shouts and screams were usually filtered out by the students as background noise. However the tone of this shout seemed different than his usual little bouts of intense irritation, it felt serious, even a little feral. The boy who had emitted such screams stood, breathing heavily after letting out such ferocity, the red from his eyes cleared a bit and he saw the look on Uraraka's face. It wasn't fear disgust, it was something akin to pain, as if Bakugou had actually hurt her. Uraraka wasn't able to look him in the eye anymore and he felt like his heart was imploding. When she finally spoke again it was in an inaudible tone and only one word, but recognized the word sorry anywhere. She sped past him and out of the school building, he reached forward and tried to say something to stop her. Words like "wait" "hold up" and "I'm sorry" appeared in his mind but he was unable to say any of them as her form slowly disappeared past the school gate. At this point the students had returned to their normal behavior and shrugged off Bakugou's outburst when a loud clang rang out and startled several of them. Bakugou had put a dent in his own locker with his fist out of frustration and it sat in there while he thought to himself. He retrieved his fist from the locker and saw that it was swollen and purple, then the pain started to become more apparent.
"Ow" he grumbled.
Bakugou returned from his memory once more and stared at his knuckles, which had healed since then.
Air entered his lungs via his nose and a long, slightly annoyed sigh exited Bakugou's mouth. This time with only one hand he scooped up a splash full of water from the running faucet and splashed his face with cold water. After that little outburst, he couldn't deny it any longer, if he did all he would do was hurt himself and her. So Bakugou decided it was time for him to confess his feelings and deal with the consequences. Unfortunately for the combustible lad, there was never a time when he had an interest in this sort of thing or forms of media that could educate him about it. But if he tried to get advice about it from his classmates, he might tip off Uraraka prematurely and/or make himself a laughing stock. He had to consult a romance manga at the bookstore in order to get an idea of what to do with Uraraka. It was a crappy and frustrating manga in his opinion but he was able to pick up some tips here and there. A plan was made, preparations were set in place and a letter was put in Uraraka's locker,(he even put an angry little heart on the envelope). However for all of his planning didn't help when it came down to it. He managed to sabotage himself instead, that embarrassing memory was the next to go through his mind as he stared into the mirror.
There was a nice spot behind the school where students often called others in order to confess their feelings to the one's they liked. Bakugou had overheard Ashido talking about it once and told Uraraka to meet him there after school in the letter left in her locker. In the manga he used for reference, the one confessing arrived a few minutes after the one they were confessing to had. He came to the conclusion that it was about suspense and making an entrance, so he waited in the bushes nearby for Uraraka arrive. Ten minutes passed in that bush before Uraraka arrived, a nervous look on her face. She would look around the are from time to time in search of the sender of the letter. For awhile he sat in the bushes observing her actions while she waited. Finally the moment had arrived, and Bakugou was ready to make his entrance.
"Hey Round Face." Bakugou stepped out of the bushes and towards Uraraka.
"Bakugou!?" What were you doing hiding in the bushes!?" Uraraka asked, surpised at his appearance.
Bakugou froze for a moment as he realized that the characters in manga seemed to materialize there as part of the dramatic effect. He however, had stepped out of the bushes right in front of her like a weirdo. Suddenly everything was wrong with his plan and it went up in smoke faster than he could blow it up. But it wasn't like a video game where he could restart at a save point, he was in this for the long haul.
"Nothing much just.... hanging out?" He tried to act like the cool character in the manga.
"Huh?" Uraraka made a confused face.
Every cell in Bakugou's body was screaming in embarrassment, he wanted to punch Deku in order to relieve some of the stress.
"Say whats that letter you got there?!" Bakugou nervously tried to get the conversation going.
"Oh? this? It's a letter I got from someone to come out here. I think they're going to confess to me." Uraraka said brightly.
Seeing how excited she was revitalized Bakugou's determination to confess and brought up his confidence.
"Is that so?" He asked.
But before he could say another word, Uraraka said:
"Yup! But I'm going to have to turn them down, there's already someone else I like." She smiled nervously.
Something broke inside of Bakugou's mind and he wanted to punch Deku more than ever for some reason. His breathing went shallow and his heart burst into a cold, jealous rage. But he tried his best to hide it from Uraraka, who was smiling. His confident smile turned into a frown and he pulled out a bullshit lie he had been saving as a possible escape route.
"Yeah I just saw some punk back here, said he was gonna prank some girl with a fake confession so I kicked his ass and chased him off." Bakugou lied.
"Oh... I see, so that was it." Uraraka looked like the wind had been taken out of her sails.
"Uh, yeah... sorry?" Bakugou had no idea how to act now.
"I'm going to go home and try not to think about all the embarrassment you saved me from." She turned around and walked away weakly.
Bakugou felt like a dirt bag the rest of the day for telling her that. In order to try and cope, he chased Midoriya around for hours threatening him with a pounding, but never caught him.
The memory faded and Bakugou was back in the bathroom, staring at his own frustrated reflection. After that failed attempt, he tried time and time again to properly confess his feelings to Uraraka to no avail. Every time he got close he either chickened out himself or something got in the way. It both relieved and frustrated him every time it was put off too. It relieved him because a part of him wanted to avoid rejection, after all Uraraka already had someone she liked. And it frustrated him because of all the unresolved feelings he wanted to get off of his chest. His last attempt was just trying to straight up tell her his feelings right as she walked into the classroom. But he tripped over his words and bit his tongue, stopping him from completing his sentence and embarrassing him in front of her. He made up some excuse and ran to sort out his feelings and ran to the bathroom to gather his thoughts which is why he was there now. Bakugou wanted desperately to find a way to express the bottled up emotions inside of him, but no direct method had worked out. Bakugou reached for a paper towel and wiped the last drops of water from his face. It occurred to him at that moment that had left before class had started, and he had been there awhile. Based on the position of the hands on the bathroom clock, he was late by about 15 minutes, Aizawa would be on his ass about this.
"Shit." He sighed, and exited the bathroom.
Class 1-A wrapped up their final class and Bakugou gathered his things, he was saved by the fact that Aizawa had also run late by about 18 minutes. It kept him just barely out of detention. While he packed up his stuff, he saw Uraraka do the same as she chatted happily with her friends. Every time she smiled or laughed Bakugou's heart skipped a beat, and he both loved and hated it. When they passed by him he tried to hide his red face from them as best he could. As they stepped out the door, Bakugou heard Uraraka turn around and say something.
"See you on Saturday Kaminari!" right before she left the room.
Bakugou lifted his head with an intense curiosity and his head spun around towards Kaminari. Uraraka said she had someone she liked, and why would they be seeing each other on a specific day unless...
"Oi, Kaminari, are you dating Ura-I mean Round face?" Bakugou asked, clenching his hands ever so slightly.
"What? nah man, a bunch of us from class are going out for karaoke." Kaminari answered.
Bakugou sighed with relief, for once he was glad to be horrendously wrong.
"Oh, well have fun I guess." Bakugou turned back to his things.
"Hey if you want to come along, you're more than welcome, I think the only one barred from coming is Mineta." Kaminari had mistaken Bakugou's temporary interest as a desire to join.
"Why the hell would I want to-" He stopped mid sentence as an idea came to mind in his head. "not come if I asked about it? idiot." Bakugou finished.
"That was both an odd way to phrase that answer and a rude way to finish that sentence." Kaminari shrugged and sighed.
Bakugou filtered out everything Kaminari was saying in order to think about the plan in his head. An opportunity to get his feelings for Uraraka out all at once in an indirect way had presented itself and he was going to take it.
Later that day, in his home, Bakugou surfed the net for songs he could sing. His plan was to choose a song that he could put his thoughts and feelings into in order to tell Uraraka how he felt without actually telling her. He checked advice blogs, forums, answer sites, etc. none of the sites had an exact answer, only suggestions. Those suggestions had a chance of being right, and they were the only thing he had to go on. Filtering out the overly mushy crap and the boring crap took time but managed to narrow down a lit of possible songs to sing. Now came the hard part, actually singing. Bakugou was never much of a singer and he was going to pay for not practicing before. Years of yelling had taken their toll on his throat, and he found it difficult to actually sing softer notes. Everytime he tried, his voice would crack and he would shout in anger again. Until his mother, Mitsuki Bakugou burst into his room that is.
"Katsuki! you brat! What the hell do you think you're... doing?" She lost her fire when she saw him in an singing position, using his All Might figurine as a microphone.
Katsuki was frozen, he wanted to shout at her to get out, but in this compromising position he only feared what she would say next. His mother only stared at him, her eyes drifting from his make shift microphone to the paper with a list of songs laying on his bed. She walked over and snatched up the list right in front of him and he desperately tried to take it back from her, only to be pushed away by innate motherly strength.
"What's with the sudden interest in singing and of... cheesy love songs?" His mother's face lit up with a sly smile and he knew he was screwed.
"Don't say anything." Katsuki Bakugou was falling apart inside.
"So... who is it? who's got you singing sappy love songs?" She smirked.
"No on! Now shut up and leave!" Katsuki continued to struggle but to no avail.
"Based on this list of songs, I'd say some girl has really gotten you good. Poor thing." She chuckled.
"OUT! GET OUT!" Katsuki shouted, flailing around like an angry pomeranian.
"Fine, fine, You know I actually used to be quite the singer myself, maybe I can give you some pointers?" She smirked and looked him in the eye.
"OUT! FUCK OFF YOU HAG!" He tried desperately to push her out of the room, only succeeding in making her budge just a few times towards the door.
"From what I could hear coming up it sounds like you could use some help." She commented.
"What the fuck? I thought you didn't know that I was singing!?" He continued pushing her to the door, almost there.
"I thought you were playing some angry death metal then getting angry yourself." She answered.
Considering that he was trying to sing softer love songs, that was actually a pretty deep cut.
"OUT!" He pushed her completely out the door, snatched the list of songs from her hand and slammed the door behind her. The door lock clicked into place.
Mitsuki leaned against the closed door and smugly spoke to him inside. "If you practice I'm sure you'll improve, but you'll improve faster with my help."
"Go Away!" He replied.
"I know exercises and songs that can help you along~" She continued.
"FUCK OFF!" Was the next reply.
"I was once a young girl, I can definitely help you with the one that has you so bent out of shape." She chuckled again.
There was no reply. A few seconds later, the door unlocked and opened slowly, Katsuki's head partially appeared from behind it.
"Can you really?" He tried to hide part of his face, but his anxiousness was still apparent to his mother.
"Good grief, this girl really has you in a bind." She smirked.
Katsuki grumbled in response, his confusion and desperation made him look to whatever options might work.
"Well, luckily your mother has just the answer. There was this one song your father once sang to me when we were dating, I've loved it ever since." She looked as if she was reliving a fond memory.
Katsuki Bakugou rolled his eyes in annoyance as his mother recounted her love life.
"Hey Now, its a good song."
Days passed and the moment of truth was nearing for Katsuki Bakugou. After class had ended for the day, he met up with Kaminari and Kirishima, who knew where to meet up with the others. They left the school building and met up with the others who were waiting at the gate. Unsurprisingly, they were surprised to see Bakugou coming along with them.
"Kacchan? You're coming too?" Midoriya asked.
"Yeah, got a problem with that Deku?" Bakugou scowled.
"No, just, I didn't know you liked karaoke." Midoriya smiled nervously.
"There's a lot you don't know about me nerd, so just fuck off!" Bakugou growled.
Everyone was quiet after that. The people there so far were Midoriya, Iida, Ashido, Hagakure, Kaminari, Jirou, Kirishima and Bakugou. The last two they were waiting on were Asui and Uraraka. The wait was over not long after Bakugou and the other two had arrived. Asui and Uraraka came up to the group with smiles on their face which turned into surprised gasps at the sight of Bakugou.
"Ribbit, why is Bakugou here?" Asui asked.
"Because I want to sing karaoke, why else would I be here?" Bakugou snapped in response.
"I didn't know you liked karaoke Bakugou. Uraraka said brightly.
The way she looked into his eyes made him blush angrily but his tone was noticeably different than his expression.
"I... wanted to give it a try..." He said calmly.
Everyone there felt a little disturbed by Bakugou's somewhat more tame behavior. He wasn't normally so calm and (sort of)quiet. They decided not to question it too much and just appreciate the fact that he was being so calm with them.
"Well then, let's get going!" Ashido cheered.
No one had any objections with this plan, they followed Ashido down the street into town. The reason they were following her specifically was because, besides being the most energetic and forefront, Ashido was the only one who knew where the karaoke place was. All of them walked together in a group, chatting casually about the events that had been on their minds. It was half an hour before they finally reach the place Ashido had been talking about. A nice place with a modern and sleek design.
"Here we are! it opened fairly recently and I've been hoping to come here for some time, but I couldn't get enough people to come with me until now." Ashido said, gesturing to the business they stood outside of.
The students entered the building an a chill waved over Bakugou. This was it, if he turned back now he would not be able to take a chance like this again, at least that's what he told himself to keep from bailing. Everyone pooled their funds together to pay of the room and time as well as the drink bar. The room itself was thankfully large enough to hold all of them, and the seats looked quite comfortable. The sitting layout was like a booth, with several couches sitting around a table in the middle of the room. Bakugou managed to sit himself across from Uraraka, who sat beside Ashido and Jirou. Bakugou had no idea how to proceed from there, besides what he knew he needed to do, he wasn't sure what to talk about until the time came for him to do what he came to do. How goal was unchanged, get the feelings he had for Uraraka out of his system, results be damned. Unfortunately the wait was longer than he had expected. After they had situated themselves and started singing, some people were fired up to get going, but Bakugou still didn't know when to cut in. Normally he would shove everyone aside without a moment's notice. However, with Uraraka there, he felt the need to at least try and be better than he usually acted, though listening to Iida's poor excuse for singing did drive him towards the edge. The time came and Bakugou got his hands on it. At this karaoke place, people who booked a room for karaoke borrowed a tablet used for looking up songs and putting them in the line up. Now Bakugou had gotten his hands on it. While Kaminari and Kirishima sand a duet of some rock song, Bakugou scrolled through the song list for the song his mother had taught him. Thankfully, this place carried a lot of classic western music along the more recent stuff, so Bakugou found it in the list. It took a moment for him to figure out how to do it, but he managed to put it in the song line up, which might be a bit. Kirishima and Kaminari had just finished up their song and Kirishima noticed Bakugou putting in a song.
"Hey, looks like Bakugou's got one picked." He said, sitting down.
"Really? I wonder what kind of song it is." Kaminari responded.
"Knowing Bakugou, it's probably some kind of death metal song or hard rock or maybe an edgy teen song." Jirou joked.
"I'm really curious to see what he's picked then!" Uraraka said, and smiled at Bakugou.
In response, Bakugou turned away from her to hide the red on his face once again. God, he couldn't believe that liking someone could make act this ridiculous. Song after song played and several members of the group sang at different times, some together and some solo. Bakugou kept track of how many songs people would have to get through in order to get to his own song. Finally the moment of truth came for Bakugou and he stood, ready to finally end this hell he had endured. The song began playing in the room, and Bakugou grabbed the microphone. As the first few instrumental notes played on the speakers, the class looked confused, the music didn't sound heavy or edgy, in fact it sounded, lighter. Bakugou turned and pointed to Uraraka.
"Oi, Round face...I mean Uraraka, T-This one's for you." He was blushing furiously.
Uraraka had a slight blush on her own cheeks mixed in with her surprise. Everyone stared at Bakugou, wondering just how well he was going to sing, and if he could sing a song that sounded so light.
"I can't fight this feeling, any longer..."
"And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow"
"What started out this friendship has grown stronger"
"I only wish I had the strength to let it show"
"I tell myself that I can't hold out forever"
"I said there is no reason for my fear"
"'Cause I feel so secure when we're together"
"You give my life direction"
"You make everything so clear"
"And even as I wander"
"I'm keeping you in sight"
"You're a candle in the window"
"On a cold, dark winter's night"
"And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might"
"And I can't fight this feeling anymore"
"I've forgotten what I started fighting for"
"It's time to bring this ship into the shore"
"And throw away the oars, forever"
"'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore"
"I've forgotten what I started fighting for"
"And if I have to crawl upon the floor"
"Come crushing through your door"
"Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore"
As Bakugou sang his song, the song his mother had helped him learn, the others were stupefied by Bakugou's surprisingly sift singing voice. When someone screams as much as Bakugou, one would assume their singing voice sounded like gargled nails. But Bakugou was singing every lyric of that song with near perfect rhythm and tone. Most of the performance, Bakugou's eyes were closed, but near the end of the first and second half of the song, he would open his eyes and look directly into Uraraka's. An intense yet somehow softly longing feeling reach Uraraka via Bakugou's eyes, and she felt her breathing get short a bit. Finally Bakugou's song drew to a close, and the music, stopped. No one had picked a follow up song, they were all still spell bound by Bakugou's amazing performance. Until Ashido broke the silence and cheered happily, singing Bakugou's praise. Eventually everyone joined in and cheered for Bakugou, all except for Uraraka, who was pondering the implications of "This one's for you, Round face."
After they left the karaoke place, the group decided to go out and get dinner together, all except for Bakugou and Uraraka, who felt like going home. At first they walked silently beside each other, but unbeknownst to them, both stole the occasional glance at the other. For some time they walked down the same sidewalk, took the same turns and walked for a decent amount of time, all in silence. But Uraraka didn't want to let that be the case, and spoke up.
"I really liked your song Bakugou." she said simply.
"Thanks," He answered.
And for a moment the silence returned. Uraraka stopped walking, and asked a question on her mind.
"What did you mean..." She began "when you said that song was for me?"
Bakugou stopped walking and said nothing, he turned around to face Uraraka. He could easily make up some excuse, but no, he wanted to tell her the reason.
"I wanted to use that song to get some feelings off my chest..." Bakugou looked down.
"What... kinds of feelings?" Uraraka asked. She could guess, she could hope, she could believe, but she wanted to know what they meant.
Bakugou was silent again for some time, until a strange feeling began welling up inside of him. An intense desire to finish what he had started to properly tell Uraraka, instead of vaguely describing his feelings indirectly in song form. He looked her in the eye again, a nervous and honest look in his eyes.
"You're energetic, strong, and cunning. But more than that, you make me feel something, something no one ever has, and I don't just mean this crush. I've always wanted to be the best hero. But when I see you, talk to you, know you..." He stopped talking and slowed his tone. "You... you... you make me want to be a better person, you make me see how easily I destroy what I care about when I blind myself... I've been running around in circles in my mind for weeks trying to tell you that...I-I like you Uraraka! Please! Go out with me!" He stammered. This confession was not part of the plan. He had not intended to confess at all today, but now he could be properly rejected, and move on.
"I'd love to."
What? Bakugou did a double take and looked back up at Uraraka.
"Wha? Are you serious?" Bakugou asked.
"Yup! that was a better confession than even Mina could dream up." Uraraka smiled.
"But, I thought you said you already liked someone."
Uraraka smiled and leaned closer to Bakugou. '"I do." and kissed him on the cheek.
