Summary
“Heart,” he croaks as black dots begin to dance at the edges of his vision. He would explain to them, if he could, that he’s not in pain. That he is glad to be with them at the end, and he’s sorry he didn’t tell them sooner.
He really thought he’d get his happy ending.
A weight settles atop his abdomen with enough force for him to feel it. He opens his eyes briefly when his chin is tilted up; all he can see is Mike, his face collapsing in agony. Will’s thankful that the oxygen deprivation knocks him out before he has time to really dwell on how many regrets he has about him.
He’s still the only thing he thinks about as he says on his last exhale, “Heart.”
(or: a combination of basement gate & the theory that will would have a fake out death. a rewrite of the scenes pre- and post-vecna fight, but not the vecna fight itself)

“I’ll do it,” Mike repeated, a little too quickly, gesturing vaguely with one hand. “The—the rope thing.” Will looked at him like he was speaking another language. Mike frowned slightly, suddenly self-conscious. “What? I mean—I have hands.” He lifted them briefly like that explained everything. “I could totally do that.”
Or: Will really wants to try being tied up, luckily Mikes such a great friend that he offers to help.

“And I’m Barbara Streisand,” Dustin snorted. “You know April Fool’s day isn't for another seven months, right?”
“I don’t know,” Lucas pauses, looking thoughtful. Mike held his breath. This was it, this was when they’d realize he was serious. “You do kinda look like Barbara Streisand.”

Lucas and Dustin don’t believe Mike when he comes out as gay, so he goes to a gay bar to prove it. Enter: Will Byers.

Summary
Hesitation fills the line. “I was wondering if you would mind company.”
Air steadily escapes Mike’s lungs as he stares at the wall’s wood paneling. All he can offer is a weak, “Huh?”
Will’s gentle laugh reaches through to him. “I want to visit you. While I’ve got the time. Is that okay? Is—Is two weeks too long?”
Two weeks is nothing compared to the three years since they’ve seen each other.
Mike snaps back to mind. His grip tightens on both the phone and the mug’s handle. “Yes—yeah, of course that’s okay. Two weeks is perfect. It’s just… nobody else is in town right now. I’m not particularly entertaining on my own.”
“I’m not looking to be entertained, Mike. I want to see you. It’s been too long.”
“Okay…” He swallows. “Okay, yeah. Come on over.”
Mike lives alone in a house he bought in Hawkins, and he’s gotten quite used to his life as a successful hermitic writer. After landing a job, Will decides he wants to spend two weeks with him before his start date. Not only does Mike have to adjust to being around someone 24/7 again, but that someone is Will.

"I'm broken," Will declares, falling back against the couch cushions. "There's something wrong with me. Normal people like sex, right? They don't make excuses to leave when someone wants to touch them."
"There's nothing wrong with you," Mike says immediately, his desire to defend Will kicking in. "Maybe you just haven't found the right person."
Will turns his head to look at him, his eyes searching. "What if there is no right person? What if I'm just... not into it? Or worse, what if I'm into stuff that's so weird no one else is?"
Mike's heart starts pounding. "What stuff?"
Or: Will wants rougher sex than what random hookup's are providing, Mike really wants to provide.
